The Nets have the assets to lure Melo AND CP3
As we know, Melo has mentioned that he would consider the Nets as one of his destinations for the long term. Also there has been rumors that the Nets were going to make a move for CP3 in the past, but talks have seemed to die down...FOR NOW! We also know how it has been rumored that CP3 and Melo have talked about the possibility of playing together in New York at Melo's wedding. Well, I believe that the Nets can allow that to happen since they're going to be moving to Brooklyn (Melo and his wife's hometown) in 2 years. Here's some trade thoughts that I've came up with that could have both Melo and CP3 playing on the Nets for next season:
Nets trade Favors (centerpiece), Williams, Humphries and 2 future draft picks for Melo
The Nets can go into the 2010-11 season with a temporary lineup of Lopez, Murphy, Melo, Morrow and Harris. Once the trade deadline starts to approach, the Nets can then pull off a deal to lure CP3 from the Hornets. Here's what I believe can land them CP3:
Nets trade Harris, Outlaw and maybe a future draft pick for CP3. Come 2nd half of next season, the Nets could have a lineup of Lopez, Murphy, Melo, Morrow and CP3. That lineup would make the Nets a strong contender in the East alongside the Magic, Heat and Celtics. As for their bench, they can always find available pieces to fill up the bench like the Heat did when they signed players to low deals. What do you guys thinks? If you have better (and logical) proposals, feel free to share.

Again, would rather get these guys in free agency. Carmelo we can trade for, but CP3 is a guranteed Net if that happens. Then trade Harris for 2 solid bench pieces and draft picks.
lets see what Favors and TWIll can become before we trade them. Lets let the season start, see how good they are and base a new trade proposal off this kind of information.
Salary cap
Brook’s future extension will kick in the same year that CP3 will be able to be a free agent. You’re not gonna have the money to sign him.
Correct me if Im wrong
But Im pretty sure its common knowledge a team is allowed to go over the cap in order to sign its own players.
So what could happen is we sign CP3 first than reward Lopez with a nice extension.

Sooo you'd let Brook be a restricted free agent?
Brook’s last contracted year is 2011-2012. If you wait to sign CP3 first, then that means you’re letting Brook be a restricted free agent, which then someone could swoop in and sign him to a godfather offer. Extensions are normally worked out at the summer after the 3rd year, aka before the start of the last year of the rookie contract.

Right after they trade Petro and a pick for Kobe, I guess.

we can trade murphy twill james and hump with picks 4 melo
then trade harris outlaw and picks 4 cp3
final lineup
cp3 morrow melo favors lopez
farmar uzoh petro zoubek may and ross on the bench which can b the nba’s worst bench
jesus christ
Like Mike said on another thread, it’s kind of pathetic that some here think that Paul or Anthony would be our only hope to beomce competitive. Neither has led his team anywhere as far as I know, to begin with
Alone they won't make a team a contender
But Paul AND Anthony added to any team does. I think this is a pipe dream, though. I’m not cool with offering Favors for Melo though, simply because the Nuggets don’t have the leverage to get a Favors-type prospect. If they were to swing, say, T-Will, Murphy, Hump, couple of 1sts and a couple of 2nds for Melo, then maybe I think about trading Favors/Harris/more picks for Paul. A lineup of Paul/Morrow/Melo/Outlaw/Lopez is pretty solid, and I think you can run across a decent rebounding PF in the draft or able to sign for vet minimum.
I think the CP3 thing is a pipedream, we can get Melo especially since he would sign an extension with us. The Kings and Wolves won’t deal away their young players if Melo won’t sign with them past this season. Unless the Rockets or Knicks (two teams he would probably sign an extension with) can come up with some great trade bait I think he will end up with the Nets. It would pain me to deal both Twill and Favors but I would do it.

Well honestly, if Melo does in fact sign an extension with us, why wouldnt CP3 want to come here.
Consequences will never be the same.
