Murphy Will Force Teams Into Making Choices, Says King
Troy Murphy got the call about the Nets trade right after landing in Hawaii for vacation. So he hasn't been formally introduced yet. When he is, expect Billy King to say what he's told USA Today: "He gives Brook [Lopez] space. ... Teams have to make a decision. They can help on Brook or leave the shooters." That and Murphy's rebounding rate were the key factors in bringing Murphy back home to New Jersey.
"He gives us a veteran guy who can spread the floor for Brook and rebounding. You rebound in this league you can win," King said. Speaking of rebounding, ShamSports reports via Twitter than the Nets gave Sean May a $100,000 partial guarantee on his vets' minimum contract. The Nets signed May in the midst of the Murphy trade negotiations.

Troy’s a great addition. He fits perfectly.
Stop crying because we traded a guy who a) is nothing special at all; and b) didn’t want to be here in the first place.
Yes Andres, and Troy wants to be here!
It still surprises me when a player actually is excited and enthused about coming to the Nets. I have been so used to players shunning us as if we have the black plague.
Good to see things changing, and that is due to Proky and the plans that he has set in motion.
I want to hear it from Troy
I have no doubt he’s excited about being home – but has he been interviewed yet and talked about how excited he is to play for the team?
Looking forward to that!

“I’m excited about playing for the up-and-coming Nets and coach Avery Johnson,” Murphy said.

...and a guy who most of you incorrectly thought
was some kind of defensive wizard. CLEE was a liability on D.
I disagree
I’m not a big fan of his, but I think Lee is a good defender. Not a Bruce Bowen, but at least someone who plays hard nosed D.
Are you kidding?
Really!!!!!
Without the stats, you didnt see that C. Lee played very good defense.
REALLY!!!!!!!
Jron
Lee was not a liability on defense
on Offense? You may have an argument, because he was killing us in the first half of the season with his inability to hit the broad side of a barn and bricking point blank lay ups

People listen to the talking heads too much
It is obvious this is a good or great trade for the Nets. It may help Houston, Indiana, or NO but it definately helps us.
We are a much better team on paper (that is all we have). We gave up our 6 or 7th best prospect to fill a gaping hole in our team.
we got a 30 year old PF who averaged 70 games per season in the last three years
that rebounds like a machine and can stretch the floor from deep and plays tough inside, for a quiet malcontent who did not want to be here
Nets win. Flawless victory.

With Murphy and Morrow out there, their men will have to guard the perimeter, leaving Brook many iso opportunities. Now, he will have to concentrate on kicking it out to open shooters when he is doubled. This is as good a strategy as the pick and roll with any of the bigs, or the pick and pop with Murphy. Seemingly, we’re in good shape on offense. Now if we can play some d.
Brook
could possibly average 25ppg, and if he puts in the work 10rpg

Umm, Billy...
Billy King said: “Teams have to make a decision. They can help on Brook or leave the shooters”
Um, no. They can help on Brook AND leave the shooters. Or they can stay on the shooters and leave Brook single covered.
Way to screw up the point, Billy.
Substantively he’s right, of course – a stretch 4 like Murphy should help Brook. I’d say, though, that the Nets will have an interestingly varied team, but one without any real theme.
If you help on Brook you are in turn leaving the shooters, if you stay with the shooters you are in turn not helping on Brook. It can’t be ‘or’ because the two actions reach the same end, it must be ‘and.’
You can cheat on your girlfriend AND break up because you’re out getting some strange, not you can cheat on your girlfriend or break up because you’re out getting some strange. Although that example can differ based on the situation.
Promoting a grenade-free America.
Like I said, Billy King does not know what he's doing...he can't even describe accurately what he did by trading for Murphy...
Help on Brook OR leave the shooters…LOL…

If you had told me the day before the trade went down...
That we could get Troy Murphy for Courtney Lee straight up I would not of believed you.
The Nets with one move balanced their team, and this one move helped not just at the PF position but practically at every other position on the team. Courtney is a nice player but I think he is limited and does not have a very high ceiling. Great move by the Nets.
In many ways, the Murphy
trade was one of the best outcomes. He gives you the rebounding (almost) of a David Lee. And shoots the 3-ball with better accuracy than any of this summer’s so-called “elite PFs.”
+1
We fixed our 4 problem with a double-double guy that’s coming in with the best 3pt percentage on the team and one of the best FT%. Very nice pick up.
