Nets To Interview Pritchard?
David Aldridge of NBA.com reports that Kevin Pritchard, the leading free agent GM candidate, will interview for Rod Thorn's job, but that seems to be news to the Nets.
"I haven’t set up an interview with him," Rod Thorn told Dave D'Alessandro Tuesday evening. "But I may in the future."
Thorn also confirms that his No.2, Bobby Marks, is indeed a candidate, but Thunder GM Sam Presti says there's nothing to him being on the Nets' list. D'Alessandro writes that Avery Johnson is Thorn's partner in the search and that Johnson "could be the de facto GM, eventually, if the guy coming in is beholden to him for his job."
Pritchard, who was fired by one multi-billionaire on draft night, would get a chance to work for an even richer owner if hired. Pritchard is credited with transforming the Trailblazers from "Jailblazers" to one of the NBA's top young teams. However, he gained a reputation as a difficult personality and Paul Allen unceremoniously dumped him hours before the draft.

Bingo
this is the guy and bring in tom penn to manage the Cap.
Promote Bobby Marks to President and call it a day.
That was something that was said in the national media
And was speculated as being part of the reason why he was let go from Portland. Just too cocky. Having said that, he was still able to pull off Camby for Outlaw and Blake at the deadline, in addition to several draft day trades this year. So perhaps not every GM thinks he’s a prick. As a Blazers fan I can say he will be missed. He was awesome, and extremely well respected amongst fans in Portland for having completely turned around the franchise. About the only thing that you can nit pick about is that yes he is a draft genius, but the jury is out on whether or not he can be an FA time consigliere.
that's actually incorrect
Pritchard himself was never cocky; it was the media and people around him that overplayed his talents. He is actually quite humble and willing to share the credit. He was fired right before the draft and still worked it legitimately, trying his best to make the Blazers better despite knowing he was gone in a few hours. He is a consummate professional who deserves his reputation for turning around that awful Blazers franchise into a respectable (albeit somewhat injury-prone) team.
Chad Ford was recently on Bill Simmons’ podcast, and when Bill asked Chad to talk Blazers fans off the ledge for losing Pritchard, he told them “Jump”. To me, that speaks volumes about Pritchard’s abilities and the fact that he’s a commodity in this league. The Nets DEFINITELY have to lock him up as president. He can even bring Penn in as the “cap expert” and have Marks take over the GM seat. Win-win for everyone
I just gotta say, have been a *huge* PDX fan...
…have spent a ridiculous amount of time following the team, too much, lol…
…and while there have been reports that the best moves the Blazers pulled off were not because of KP, but the fantastic scouting dept. of PDX…
…it’s fair to say that the overall consensus of in depth PDX followers, and worst case view of KP…would be that he’d still be an excellent hire…and like I said…
…that is a “worst case” view, maybe he didn’t do as much as he was credited with…but honestly, from what I see, the consensus, insider view among those that follow him…
…is simply that Paul Allen is a little crazy…Al Davis-Lite….if the Nets get Pritchard…honestly…
…I wouldn’t worry about that hire at all
I think we are saying the same thing
The media led everyone to believe that he was cocky. Frankly, I’m not sure anyone really knows outside of other GMs and Blazers staff. But I digress, the issue is, yes KP was widely successful in bringing in a group of players that were 1) outperformed expectations and 2) were solid citizens. Having said that, he also whiffed on a few things namely: Darius Miles reinstatement costing $9 million in cap space that could have brought a prime free agent, by the inability to move Raef LaFrentz’s expiring contract, by Oden’s health problems and missing out on Kevin Durant. Pros and cons.
I'de rather Presti
Pritchard is good, but every time Presti makes a move I’m impressed. The picks I don’t like turn out to be good players. Presti seems like the best in the NBA if the Nets can get him, they should.
good
his first move will be to get hedo turkolu like he wanted last year in portland (nobody’s perfect)
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
hedo is no good and he’s got a ridiculous contract
God sent us a Prokhorov.
Presti isn't going anywhere
as much as I hate to say it. But Pritch is awesome and Portland made a mistake letting him go. It’d be great if the Nets get him. He’s a draft day wizard.
Hire him on the spot.
Alsooooooooo. Pritchard has been to known to stockpile on the International players (Rodriguez, Fernandez, Batum) so thats good.
God sent us a Prokhorov.
Finally!
Good to see the Nets finally interviewing him. It’s Pritchard’s job to lose since no chance Presti leaves the Thunder.
Check this out from Wiki
* A deal prior to the 2006 NBA Draft which sent Sebastian Telfair and Theo Ratliff to the Boston Celtics in exchange for the #7 pick in that year’s draft and Raef LaFrentz.
* A draft-day deal which sent Tyrus Thomas (the team’s draft choice at #4) and Viktor Khryapa to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for the #2 pick, LaMarcus Aldridge
* A second draft-day deal which sent the #7 pick in the draft, Randy Foye, along with cash considerations, to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for the #6 pick, Brandon Roy. Roy would end up being named Rookie of the Year, and would be selected as an All-Star the following three seasons (2008, 2009, 2010).
* A third draft-day deal in which the team acquired the rights to the #27 pick in the draft, Sergio Rodriguez, from the Phoenix Suns in exchange for cash.
This guy is awesome!
God sent us a Prokhorov.
lol getting #7 for telfair isn't awesome
it’s offensive. Boston should have been sanctioned for that.

Does anyone know were he was before he got to Portland? Just curiouse

After a year working outside of basketball, Pritchard became the coach and general manager of the Kansas City Knights of the ABA, which he led to a championship in 2001. Later, he was hired by San Antonio Spurs general manager R. C. Buford to be a scout in the Spurs’ organization, and two years later was hired by the Portland Trail Blazers as director of player personnel.
From Wiki
God sent us a Prokhorov.
Thank god
I was worried with all the Bower and Dumars talk. I would prefer Presti but Pritchard is my #2 choice.
who are all the candidates again?
pritchard, colangelo, bobby marks, presti
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah!
Got home from work. A fresh happy hour. And now (!?) Pritchard’s on deck. Great, great news.
Well worth an interview
Cannot hurt interviewing the man, see what his personality is like, ask him why he was dumped, see how he reacts, ask him how he would shape the roster going forward if LeBron were here and if he weren’t, etc.
The one thing about Pritchard
It doesn’t seem as if he knows how to attract stars or to trade for them. He’s good at assembling a bevy of solid role players, but he didn’t demonstrate an ability to acquire stars. Thorn might be the opposite, ha.
we never signed anyone
we’ve always acquired our best players through draft and trade with thorn
"We’re the new Nets. We’re leaving the old behind and we’re in with the new. Hopefully LeBron is going to be a part of that."

i don’t get how people are like, you can’t give him credit for that no one knows how prospects are going to perform, um clearly some people are better than others at projecting players to the NBA.

I think it is fair to be mad about that pick if you are a PDX fan, fair to complain, fair to call it an error...
…I don’t think you can just say “everyone would have picked Oden!,” because there were a small minority that wouldn’t have…
…but seriously, the absolute consensus was Oden, absolute consensus, among the best minds in the biz…
…and on top of the fact, lol, again, huge PDX fan here…if you compare Oden’s stats, his Hollinger measurements this year…to Sam Bowie…
…honestly, even this year, before he got hurt, admittedly, but even this past year…Oden projected to absolute stud, if you don’t know that, its just bc you don’t follow the team…
…but Oden was putting up #’s and Defensive play, that honestly, 15 games into the season…would have still had people picking him over Durant…he was that dominant in limited minutes…
…lol, fair to say, no one would trade Durant for Oden right now….but the book is not closed on that one….
….and compare stats on Bowie and Oden in there first 50 games played, no lie, it goes like this…
Oden>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bowie
dude he traded sebastian telfair for the #7 pick
anyone who can convince anyone telfair was worth a first rounder deserves a medal
I want Jerry Manuel fired now, not three years from now. That is my stance.- John Peterson

Thorn
master of the blockbuster trade. Pritchard – master of assembling championship caliber role players. Wish we could combine them.
Pritchard = master at drafting.
Not necessarily the guy you want if you have a bunch of proven stars.

Damn Santana hit a home run and pitched a 3 hit shut out
But uhh lets get this pritchard thing done, whats going on with Bosh, let me read up.
I am confused about the Bosh thing...
Let’s get Pritchard, then I will feel comfortable about our future from the coaches to the GM to the owner.
Pritchard will be great with all our future draft picks.
We will need to sign a PF so if LBJ does not come, I wonder if we go after Boozer. I am really not interested in Lee because of his defense…rather go for Thomas.
he's a full grown man

Breaking News – Sources: LeBron James will announce decision on his free agency Thursday at 9pm EST on ESPN.
Let me guess, Broussard will ask him the question and LeBron will give him the answer
How convenient for Broussard. Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Bucher was tripping all over himself to break the news about Bosh to Miami.

The more of an "event" he makes it
the more I think he’s staying with the Cavs. Everyone is saying he’d feel guilty leaving the Cavs, and if he went on National TV or on Twitter and announced something like “I’m going to the NETS!” after all the buildup that would be such a huge spit in the face of Cleveland. I’d think if he was really guilty he’d want to leave as respectfully and quietly as possible.
Not true. He can say, ’’i’ve given it my best, but it’s time for me to move on’’. Remember the Gretzky press conference when he left Edmonton?
I do not remember that
But I think if Lebron wanted to say something like that, he wouldn’t be doing it in a “GUYS GUYS LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME” manner.
I’m probably giving him way too much credit as a person, but I’m assuming he’s not going to torture Cleveland like that.
It’s not torture. He gave them 7 years, and got nothing. you think he wants the same junk team that can’t win a title?
To make it so dramatic, especially with recent reports getting their fans hopes up, is torture. There’s no reason to do that to the Cavs fans, unless he is so egotistical that he just doesn’t care about them, and all reports are saying he is not like that.
And 60 win teams aren’t junk
Frank Isola just tweeted
“Knicks are to quiet right now they must be up to something, at least I hope they are”
SMH yeah there talking to Melo and Kobe.
No, I was pumped for interviewing Pritchard.
Then I just saw this nonsense that Lebron is pulling. He is the ringmaster of his own circus.
The whole process has gone on for soo long
Honestly I just want it to end so we can either have Lebron, or find out what to do with the rest of our roster.
Maybe this is a sign we got him. Maybe he wanted Pritchard, and we’ll give him a quick interview, hire him, and then trade Humphries, sign Bron and his wingman.
I hate Lebron with a passion.
But I want him in a Nets uniform. The fact that he is pulling this stunt just goes to show what kind of d-bag he is.
Proceeds going to charity.
IMO good way to use our fandom to help people.

"I want to win now, not 3 years from now. That's my stance." - Kevin Burkhardt
Pritchard
The one complaint that I would have with Pritchard is he was tough making trades. He overvalued his young talent some times as there were plenty of people who wanted Aldridge and other young talent and it seemed like he was reluctant to pull the trigger.
I am so tired of Dave D's negative crap...
Rod uses him like a cheap date. I bet the interview is tomorrow but Rod used Dave D to keep things quiet per his typical approach to things.
