Nets Beat Pacers with Big Fourth Quarter

The Nets finally put an end to their Summer League losing streak, beating the Pacers 80-69 in Orlando on Tuesday night. After trailing most of the game, the Nets took the lead late in the third quarter and then pulled away in the fourth.Terrence Williams led the way, finishing with 24 points, six rebounds and seven assists. Damion James was active all night, but took over in the fourth quarter and finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds, though he shot just 4-for-13 from the free throw line. Derrick Favors looked a little more comfortable, scoring 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting, but had just three rebounds in 29 minutes.

In a post-game interview with NBA TV's Rick Kamla and Steve Smith, a confident Williams talked about how he recently told Avery Johnson how he preferred to play point guard and how Johnson told him the position was about leadership, providing "a little bit of sugar, a little bit of salt" to teammates.

24/7/7 is great for twill but… 9 TO’s?! he tries too hard with some of these passes.

by JohnFromLongIsland on Jul 6, 2010 9:15 PM EDT reply actions

that's the weakness he has to eliminate.

TO’s! He passes to blank areas sometimes. (On the other hand he doesnt know these guys, do0esnt know when they’re gonna zig vs zag)

DAMION JAMES

damn, if he hit is foul shots he couldve had a 30/10 game.

Damion James

Shot a lot… but had a efficient 4th quarter. And they work hard on defense. Derrick Favors hit a left hook a right hook, and a 19 fter… nice!

D James looks like a keeper

I agree

If the Nets whiff on Lebron, I think they may already have a James that can step up and fill the 3/4 spot nicely

IDK about that

Jiro, your post makes me yearn for Yi...a little..

I had some success with him in 2k10……

Favors, baby.

by Will J on Jul 6, 2010 9:27 PM EDT up reply actions

He shot 62% from the field

Yi played about 100 games for us, did he ever shoot at that pct. I think the only thing he did around that number was the amount of stitches get got from Swat’s elbow.

Favors still hasn’t shown me anything on D. James looked promising but we definitely need a shooter. James and TWill are scorers who don’t shoot well at least from the first impression I’m getting of James and we know about TWill’s shooting.

Yup

You have to remember, this is the first time they are playing in a game in months…Summer league does not matter, just to get their feet wet.

Great game

It was nice to see T-Will develop. He has to cut down on the turnovers.
D James. He’s gonna be a great player off the bench
Favors. I’d love to see more of the post game

T-Will is trying he can be a big point Guard

I personally prefer him at the 2 or 3 tho. It’s nice to have that psuedo second point on the floor. He will make better decisions. Having a ex-PG as your coach will just help that.

The NETS are coming!

Damion James & Connor Atchley were great second fiddles to Durant at Texas

Damion James and Connor Atchley were great second options to Kevin Durant at Texas.

Atchley is no one’s image of an ideal NBA big man, but he manages to get open and hit the jumper after the star is double teamed and kicks it back. Atchley is like a poor man’s Ryan Anderson.

James also only played one season with Kevin Durant,, and James improved his game with Durant gone. It’s nice to see James do well and show that he can be an L. James backup.

it’s always nice to win but i really think the team sucked for the most part of the first half. i mean it doesn’t come as a surprise that the team lacks chemistry, but come on, they have to do better at taking care of the basketball and sharing it.

I don't like the 9 TOs

but another good game for T-Will

18 6 and 6 might not be far fetched next season, especially if we strike out in Free agency

btw

Looks like someone’s jump shot looks a bit smoother. Keep working T-Will

Favores and James are going to be alright. Favors is already way ahead of Yi in what he can do on BOTH ends of the court and James provides so much energy and determination: Kris Hump with skills! But, save the worry, James ain’t coming here. He’s staying home or going to the Knicks.

TWill is a beast

And, believe me, we are gonna LOVE Damion James.

I didn't get to see the original broadcast

and thought Favors was going to look horrible after reading posts here on Netsdaily. Then i watched the game and he didn’t look bad at all. He needs to be more assertive but He goes after every ball and hustles. He made shots with both hands, hit a 19 ft jumper and look decent in the post. He needs work but we all know that.

This is from one of the articles ablove from the Daily Oklahoman regarding Favors. Since he doesn’t have a bias, I thought this was interesting.

“Derrick Favors: Dude will be a monster. He can post, step away from the basket, run the floor and finish on the break. And when he gets it on the block, he can turn either direction and finish with both hands. I’d like to see him hit the glass harder than he has through the first two days, though. But offensively, he will be hard to stop when he gets the hang of things. He showed toughness and composure Tuesday after a sluggish start Monday. And his body is extremely well built. With a great coaching staff in New Jersey that includes Avery Johnson and Sam Mitchell, look for Favors to develop fast. "

Much more physical team

TWill, DJames and Favors have NBA bodies. Read the out of town coverage and people were impressed by their physicality and efforts.
