Dumars: "Not Interested" in Nets' Job But There's Serious Talk with Bower

The Nets may be interested in Joe Dumars, but Joe Dumars is not interested in the Nets.

The Pistons GM Issued a statement Monday, effectively cutting off speculation that he will replace Rod Thorn when the long time president of basketball operations steps down July 15.

"In response to today's media reports regarding the New Jersey Nets, I can say that I do not have any interest in a basketball operations position with the Nets," said Dumars in the statement. "My priority is to continue leading the Pistons' basketball operations efforts and putting together a team that is ready to compete and get back on track next season."

Hornets GM Jeff Bower, on the other hand, confirmed that he has spoken with the Nets.  Fred Kerber described the talks as "serious on both sides".  Still in the picture: Thunder GM Sam Presti and the Nets "GM in waiting" Bobby Marks.

That's okay, Darko.

We’re not interested.

Marks or Presti...

Someone please tell me we are not interested in Bower. Kerber did say that Bower is the underdog and Woj said Marks is gaining traction in the organization. The two guys I trust about the Nets.

Despite Avery Johnson’s tantrums, Hornets Jeff Bower remains strong candidate for Nets. Assistant GM Bobby Marks also getting strong look. about 2 hours ago via web

I was wondering, if Thorn is holding 2 positions, would Nets be hiring 2 people?

Would there still be a “President of Basketball Operations” or would Marks become “President” and thus the Boss of the new GM?

And why can’t Rod just stay on until free agency is over and a new GM is in place?
What is so special about July 15?

Is Rod even getting a Salary at this time?

by jerry25 on Jul 5, 2010 11:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Marks is VP

Sam Presti for the Pres. of Basketball Ops ans Pritchard as our GM.

I still cannot believe we are considering Bower...

Why hire Avery, Mitchell, Popeye and Larry K then sign Bower.

The guy is horrible!

I cant see Presti leaving, even for the $

The way he has run that OKC organization, what would he be saying if he left a small market team like that for the money when the organization is trying to lock down the next NBA superstar in Durant and convince him to not do the same.

can someone please explain why in the world

we are connected to Bowers? Like how did his name even come up? Did they pull names out of a hat?

Presti!!!

Thank God!

Dumars has made some of the worst GM moves in recent memory.

Remember it was Joe Dumars who selected Darko Milicic with the second pick back in the 2003 draft passing on Carmello, Wade, Bosh, etc.

Also, it was Joe Dumars who signed the worst 2 contracts in free agency last year….Ben Gordon for about $60 Mil and Charlie Villaneuvawas grossly overpaid too.

Hey Joe Dumars, you might be one of the worst GM’s in all of basketball….we never wanted your sorry ass anyway!

He is Einstein next to Bow Wow...

I would be so turned off to the Nets if Jeff is the guy.

by rundmc00 on Jul 5, 2010 11:52 PM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

Oh Yeah, I Almost Forgot...

Joe Dumars is also the GM that traded away their franchise PG (Chauncey Billups) for a washed up Allen Iverson. How did that turn out?

The Pistons will be among the lottery teams for at least the next 4 years or so…they are going completely backwards fast. Joe Dumars and his bone headed moves are the main reason the Pistons organization is in complete free fall mode.

by jonnyplastic@yahoo.com on Jul 6, 2010 12:39 AM EDT up reply actions

Joe Dumars also got them a championship

and 6 consecutive conference finals. And the Billups trade was for Allen Iverson’s expiring contract.

by ddyyzz on Jul 6, 2010 1:23 AM EDT up reply actions

he also failed to adequately address any of their holes after that championship

or build any type of reliable bench or acquire any type of role players. The biggest reason they fell apart is that their starting 5 was forced to play so many minutes over the course of the season and in the post season because they had virtually no bench.

I'm starting to think that there are not many good GMs available...

And while we don’t like Bower, he is probably a middle of the pack guy and is very interested. If Presti does not come to NJ, I am not sure that there are many choices better than Bower but I would much rather give Marks a shot.

Maybe Bower is in the mix because of his Paul ties.

by rundmc00 on Jul 6, 2010 8:35 AM EDT reply actions

then why not just stick with Marks

this just makes no sense, for a team preaching big splashes and major change to put a middle of the road gm at best in charge.
