When Will Lopez Be Ready...for Team USA? for the Nets?
Brook Lopez says he's regained all the weight he lost during a spring bout with mononucleosis and is just rounding into basketball shape, working on his conditioning. But judging by his performance Saturday, it looked like he is going to need more time. Just how much is the question.
On one hand, Team USA understands his issues and is unlikely to make any decisions until after the World Basketball Festival next month in New York. But if by then, he still hasn't rounded into shape, he could lose his opportunity at the World Championships to JaVale McGee. At that point, the question becomes how will he be entering training camp, which starts three weeks after the Worlds end.

It depends on how severe his mono was, but
he has to be careful about a relapse. I had a very severe case as a teenager and it took me more than just a couple of months to begin to really feel myself. My liver and lymph nodes were enlarged for quite a while. Brook may be better off not pushing himself too hard just to be on the USA team. His health should come first. I suppose he is being advised by a doctor….

Mono takes a long time to recover from...
it coud take him over a year to get all his strength back..
Mono is nasty
I had it when I was 18. It took well over one year before I was back to full strength. As an amateur baseball player, at 17 I hit .460. In the same league at 18 I hit .250. IMHO, he should skip USA team.

This is where Proky's money should come in
We should have the best medical staff money can buy. Find guys from all walks of treatment, it was the Suns’ medical staff’s pioneering approach to treatment that made them the best in the business.
The Phoenix staff works to avoid player injuries by correcting body imbalances with flexibility exercises and corrective therapy. That process – like the Suns’ partnership with the Mesa-based National Academy of Sports Medicine – is nothing new. The Suns started it seven years ago. Three years later, they had cut injury treatments 62 percent.
We should have the best minds we can get treating our players
Very interesting, muwu, and certainly something the Nets should look into, but it doesn't apply to mono. Brook has a virus and
his body needs time to drive it into remission. That cannot be forced and I am concerned that intense workouts are as likely to set him back as to help recovery. He should be taking a measured approach that is not forced by the USA basketball timetable.

Yeah, but the basic point being, our players should be getting the best medical advice they can get no matter what affliction they suffer from
Whether it’s rest or work, the guys telling them what to do should be the best in the business

people want need to stop having unrealistic expectations for the kid and be happy we have a center who can do what he does.

the voice of reason
it was unbelievable reading some of the garbage that so called Net fans were posting on here this weekend. It’s embarrassing to be apart of a fanbase that acted like Lopez is Jon Koncak now because he had a poor outing while he is recovering from frickin MONO.

he is a good center
but I’m telling you people are going to start blaming him when the nets begin to struggle this season.
one because they feel the team is built around him and he is our best player,
Now he isn’t the best center in the league. Heck not even the 2nd best in the East so lets be patient.
Let’s appreciate what we have.
Stop expecting 20 plus and 14. He is a great young center and is great piece to the puzzle we are trying to solve in Jersey.

I think he
Should back out and rejoin again next year when he is at 100 percent. For now he should be concentrating on getting his body and strentgh back to where it was before he got the mono. He should add at least ten pound more on his frame.
"We're going to be wearing a bullseye. But that's what you play for," Wade said. "We enjoy the bullseye. Plus, there's going to be times when we lose 2-3 games in a row, and it seems like the world has crashed down. You all are going to make it seem like the World Trade is coming down again, but it's not going to be nothing but a couple basketball games."

I admire the effort, but he needs to rest up and get his strength back.

the best way
to get back into game shape is to play the game. have no problem w/ brook playing with top flight players to get his mojo back
imagine something extremely witty here
Why is he playing on Team USA if he is not ready? Is this just an excuse? To be outplayed by JaVale is not so good. If he is not ready, and we don’t have a PF, we will struggle.
oh PLEASE
you have to be kidding me with this
The kid is coming off of being SICK as a dog. He looks sluggish for a reason
Now I really understand what Net Income was getting at when he tossed this fanbase under the bus the past few years. I thought that we were better than this knee jerk garbage but apparently not.

+1 MrDollarBills
Oman8…you go out and contract mono and see what kinds of “excuses” you’ll be making when you can barely hold your head up…When I had mono I literally could not hold my head up for days. I was laid up for months…It saps all your energy.
thank you
I love this kid attitude and everything he brings to the game people should just be happy we have a center like him.
People are quick to say what he doesn’t do instead of what he does

Agreed
Brook has more fortitude than a lot of young men at his age. He should be proud of himself and that he made it through all the practices and the game this week!!! Mono is nothing to joke about as people have said.
I’m proud to have him as our Center, whether or not he makes Team USA. I hope he does since he worked so hard all season and it is just one game. He definitely deserves to be on this team!!!
Wishing him the best…can’t wait till preseason.

Youthful exuberence
Is not substitute for judgment. Brook is the best center on the USA team, but should not be playing while recovering from mono, based upon my experience with the disease.
I think we're all putting the cart before the horse here...
Where is anybody even bashing Brook Lopez?
