Petro Still a Possibility for Team France and World Championships
With injuries mounting for the French National Team, its managing director said this week the Nets' Johan Petro could be called upon to fill in. Team France will play in the World Basketball Festival in New York next month before heading to Turkey for the World Championships.
"The fact remains that Johan Petro and (French PF) Dounia Issa, reservists inside, stand ready in case," said Patrick Beesley.
In an interview just after signing with the Nets, Petro said "the door to Team France is not closed" but admitted it may be a "little late" to join the team this year. In the interview, with France-Amerique, Petro also said he was "clearly" surprised the Nets gave him a three-year deal.

He Was Surprised?
That’s funny, we weren’t. We are used to bad signings to borderline NBA players. So far our off season help down low is a 19 year old and Johan Petro. where is Yi when you need him?
Well the man has some talent, but I question whether he would give 100% all the time.
Here are some of his YouTube highlights:

However, I would feel a lot better, after Brook’s performance last night, if Nets were deeper up front.
Krstic, for one, has an expiring 5.5 million contract and would free up Petro to play some PF.
why not let Brook fully recover and get himself back into basketball shape and conditioning?

They will, but Nets are still weak with the Bigs. Shouldn't assume Brook will be available for 82 games again.
Nets need TWO, not ONE more Big, because IMO, Zoubec will be a waste of a roster space.
Nets have the cap space to get better and still retain that cap space for next summer.
They would only have to sacrifice the flexibility to use that space before the trade deadline.
Zoubek will make the team
based on what Avery said to Carrino, that with Petro and Zoubek “we have good depth there”.
And don’t forget, the Nets have talked about Favors being able to play the five.
Zoubek is a place holder IMO. What else do you expect Avery to say? If he believes every individual thing he said, then he should also expect to make the playoffs.
And Coach Mitchell, who is working with Favors now, should know best, but if you like to take Avery for his exact word, he doesn’t plan to overuse Favors, at least for 1/2 year.
I repeat, unless Nets believe that Zoubec has big upside, there is no point in having so many future draft picks. There wouldn’t be any position left to fill with picks if the right players were at every position already.
Best to get a cheap experienced veteran to fill Zoubec’s role or else an experienced expiring. If Zoubec is going to be replaced in the future, you might as well get someone who can step in and help at this time.
His comments about Avery Johnson
are quite revealing. One thing missed in the signings was the very positive vibe the free agents got from Johnson.
I wish Avery and Proky would have chosen to use that influence immediately after talking with LeBron.
Avery was stuck going down to Summer League, but had Proky and Avery gone right to Boozer/DLee, things might have been different. Proky/Thorn chose to be overconfident.
After watching Keven Love last night, I wish there was some way to have traded for him, while it was still possible.
Love could certainly become the next David Lee.
I am not sure
how hard they pushed for Boozer and they never made Lee an offer. Nor did they make Amare an offer. I don’t think you understand how much they think of Favors, believing that he will play a “significant role” this year and be “better than Bosh or Stoudemire by year three”.
Avery isn’t just blowing smoke when he compares Favors to Dwight Howard. They believe that.
