Lopez Competition at Center Could be Odom

Mike Krzyzewski has a radical solution for Team USA's lack of big men: put 6'10" Lamar Odom in the low post.

Amare Stoudemire had to drop out because he couldn't get his surgically repaired knee insured.  David Lee dropped out because he sprained his middle finger in practice and Robin Lopez dropped out as a precautionary measure, resting his back.

So Krzyzewski is thinking about options...like Odom.  Brook Lopez understands it's not being about the last man standing. "Regardless of how many bigs are here, I still have to put my best foot forward," the Nets’ center said. "I can’t come out here and play terrible and expect to get picked if I’m the only big here."

Well um...
“I’m in horrible shape,” Odom said Tuesday after Team USA’s first day of training camp.

They were saying this McGee guy from Washington was going to make the team.

Why so few big men??? I mean at some point we should just call Shaq and other older guys… Shaq loves this kind of stuff… plus he could feel like a stud one last time.

So,

when do the World Championships start?

Wow were the nets interested in JOSH POWELL????????????
“The Atlanta Hawks are close to addressing their need for a backup big man by acquiring Los Angeles Lakers reserve forward Josh Powell on a one-year deal expected to be for the veteran minimum $992,680, according to league sources. Powell is expected to pick the Hawks over Cleveland, Chicago and New Jersey in the next couple of days.

THANK GOD HE AINT COMING HERE

Lopez not starting

Screw Coach K

Nets, and Nets players, get no respect

I’m really bummed out. Makes me wonder, do we Nets fans just have exaggerated sense of Brook abilities? Or, do Nets get no respect? Coach K is talking like he values Robin more than Brook. Coach K doesn’t even mention Brook at all.

by 3ptChucker on Jul 21, 2010 11:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Its because Robin was in the Playoffs last year

We won 12 games, even tho Brook should be a go to player on that team, these slights make me want to prove everybody wrong this season even more smh.

by Atronic on Jul 21, 2010 11:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Well anyone who doesn’t know Brook is one of the top centers in the East is not a good evaluator of talent.

Since the face been revealed the game got real

Mike D'Antoni runs the offense

and he doesn’t like centers especially one from the Nets.
The mural is still looming over MSG I assume.

by universal on Jul 21, 2010 11:41 PM EDT up reply actions

then they can blow in the wind. Send Lopez back home to rest and work on his lower body strength

he has better things to do

Thats rediculious

Brook started all 82 games and average practicaly 19 and 9. Robin started in 31 games and averaged 8 and 5. No coach would rather have Robin than Brook.

Man Brook Put up good numbers...

Played the whole Season got really no calls and faced double and triple teams on a nightly basis. With all the shooting we have now. That won’t be an option… I hope Brook has a monster year and then everyone will jump the bandwagon.

The NETS are coming!

by MrBDown on Jul 22, 2010 1:34 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah Odom??

I guess we will see how good coach K is without Lebron.Kobe,Wade etc…Although the rest of the world are pretty thin with injuries to.

by Atronic on Jul 21, 2010 11:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe I am wrong but why does everyone want him to play so bad. Let him rest and get ready for the Nets season.

I actually don't want Brook to play because Tean USA is gonna get spanked

to make matters worse, if Brook joins, he’s gonna ride the bench on a really bad team.

by 3ptChucker on Jul 21, 2010 11:37 PM EDT up reply actions

International competition is more about teamplay & chemistry, not individual talent

This summer’s Team USA is a sad collection put together at the last minute with no urgency. They are playing against other teams who spent years together just for this tournament. You do realize those teams value the World Championships as much as or more than the Olympics, right? USA is one of the few countries that don’t care about the World Championships.

Team USA is gonna get spanked.

by 3ptChucker on Jul 22, 2010 12:23 AM EDT up reply actions

preach

coach universal would prefer Robin over Brook bc he’s the better defender and he has playoff experience.
They only need big centers to block up the middle and rebound.

by universal on Jul 22, 2010 1:00 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't see it

Its stil about talent this team is still better than those Iverson Marbury teams that lost, I mean the reserves of other Country’s are not beating our team, when we lost guys like Dirk were playing Argentina was stacked not right now.

by Atronic on Jul 22, 2010 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions

I really want him to rest and work out

but the experience would be good for him.

If he’s going to be riding the pine though on a team that does not feature Dwight Howard, then he doesn’t need to waste his time or risk injury

Well or he plays with people he builds a repore with and realizes he doesn’t want to be on the Nets anymore. LOL Keep him in a basement in newark untill the season starts.

Agreed...

He can come home then. We get NO RESPECT at all. We are going to have to TAKE it. I hope all of our guys take these kinds of things personal and rise to another level. If coach K thinks his best center option is Lamar Odom (Who I think should probably start at the 4) Proky needs to send the G5 and get Brook outta there by sundown.

The NETS are coming!

by MrBDown on Jul 22, 2010 1:31 AM EDT up reply actions

Honestly...

…for international competition, Odom might be a better fit at center than Lopez is!

by Kmart6nets on Jul 22, 2010 7:16 AM EDT reply actions

if its not the olympics...

who really cares?

and even if it was….is it still thrilling to dominate these other “up and coming countries” ?

Ever see a guy say "goodbye" to a shoe before?!

by Trenton on Jul 22, 2010 12:06 PM EDT reply actions

Lopez owns Odom

Brook plays better on a consistent basis, if Odom started over him, Coach K should rethink his coaching ability.
