Avery Johnson Winning %
It is lost on some that Avery has the highest winning percentage of any NBA coach ever. Some argue that any coach could have done well with the Mavs. A few comments on Avery's record:
1) Many coaches have coached teams much better than the Mavs - Phil Jackson, Red Auerbach, Pat Riley, etc. So don't try to tell us that Cuban has one of the greatest rosters ever.
2) Avery made Diop look like a good NBA player and Josh Howard look like an all-star.
3) Avery made the Mavs a top ten defensive team after years of being the worst defensive team in the league.
4) And finally, Avery got Devin to play great defensive and not chuck shots....that was probably his biggest achievement.
No one should sleep on Avery's coaching record.

Over/Under is 25 Games
…until AJ no longer has the best coaching winning percentage in NBA history, and I’ll take the under with the team as it stands right now. Hopefully he’ll be a good coach for us, but the winning percentage thing overstates his ability—he certainly ain’t the best coach ever. He might be one day and I’m rooting for him, but he needs to develop a winner here, something he didn’t have to do in Dallas. That will entail losing games in the near term, and will put an end to this “winningest coach ever” stuff.
I will take the WAY UNDER, perhaps AS SOON AS opening night, since at this point it looks like we will start the season against the new look Heat IN Miami.

You do realize that losing to the Heat only counts as one loss, right?
It’s not like Avery loses that game and his percentage goes down to .500.

After 82 games, it's safe to say AJ will no longer have the best winning % in the nba
How much are you willing to put on it?

The point is Avery is a very good coach
And can turn average players into very good ones.
How is Josh Howard just a product of Avery?
Not really fair to assess his latest season since he’s been injury ridden. And Devin Harris was a rookie/young player then, of course he wouldn’t go out and be chucking shots since he wasn’t anything yet.
I mean, why wasn’t he able to make Marquis Daniels into a good player then? Mo Ager? JJ Barea didn’t bust out until lately
I think we’re mystifying the “powers of avery” now. All of the sudden Avery will be able to make players who never play defense into defensive players and turn headcases straight. There’s absolutely noooo chance he’ll become more like Scott Skiles and make the players grow tired of his nagging and constant control instead of listening to him. And who’s easier to fire, the players or the coach?
After don nelson had been coaching them
You think maybe nelson wasn’t asking them to think about defense at all?

Avery said
In the conference call that the goal is to win 7 out of 10 games. He could have said 5 of 10 and fans would be happy but he didn’t.
That record will drop after this season.
World Series attitude, champagne bottle life, nothing every changes so tonight is like tomorrow night.
