Frank Lands in Boston
The Nets wanted Tom Thibodeau to replace Lawrence Frank on the sidelines but are happy to have Avery Johnson running their show. Lawrence Frank wanted a head coaching job but is happy to be replacing Tom Thibodeau in Boston, being named a Celtic assistant coach Thursday.
“I think it’s a good situation for me – I wanted to get back and coach, and I didn’t want to sit and wait, and you can’t ask for a better situation or a better organization,” Frank said.
Frank was fired by the Nets after an injury-riddled 0-16 start in New Jersey last season, being replaced by Kiki Vandeweghe. Vandeweghe is also in the hunt for a new job, being one of the finalists to replace Kevin Pritchard in Portland.

Good Luck
Frank is a good, hard working, smart coach. I’m happy he’s getting a fresh start with a winning team.

He was hired for what he is
An excellent, top of the league, assistant coach. He’ll excel here and I expect provide the same level of thorough analysis of other teams that he did for the Nets.
But I’m sure Doc Rivers won’t have him running up and down the sidelines screaming and ranting.
Oh wait
I thought there would a lot of great teams trying to get him as their new HC the moment the Nets fired him… that’s what we were told by the Frank supporters…
Anyways, Lawrence is a great guy, and I wish him good.
FIRE FRANK!!!!!!!
An oldie but goodie for my Boston friends!
Hollah!!!!!

Back where he belongs...
As an ASSISTANT. It is unfortunate that we had to put up with him as our head coach during prime years for this franchise when J-Kidd was still running the show, thus diminishing our chances to reach the heights we had before Frank took over. Of course we have Kidd himself to blame for this to a degree but I don’t think he expected the team to let him remain in that spot for as long as he did.
Bottom line: he is a hard worker and a good guy to have on your staff but he is a poor excuse for an NBA head coach.

he had a lot going for him
just not the stature/demeanor of a man players could truly look up to as a father-type authority figure.
Congratulations to Celtics
They got a very very good coach. I’ve been Nets fan for 15 years and he got, by far, the most compliments from his own and opposing players on his game prep and game decisions. JKidd, VC, Alston, CDR, very diverse group, all had great things to say about him. I remember one home game we beat LAL and Kobe gave him props for his defensive strategy. He kept last year’s spit and baling wire team competitive and we saw what a difference he made when Kiki took over and they became a true embarrassment. Maybe he wasn’t the greatest motivator but with ownership what it was players could hardly be motivated.
NI are you saying...
that we made a contract offer and were turned down by Thibodeau before going after AJ? It looked like we weren’t seriously interested in Thibs because we supposedly only had a telephone interview while in the same time period met with AJ twice. What am I missing here?
