I think this season, for Avery, needs to be about developing those 3. We all know what Brook brings to the table. The kid's gonna be a top 3 center in 2 years tops. He's got great footwork, a soft touch around the basket, and has good defensive awareness (if someone could just teach him how to set a pick!).
Now I feel Nets Nation is 50/50 on Terrence. Half love him, and half think he's an underachieving head case. I belong to the former group. Terrence has all the skills to be a truly prolific pg in this league: vision (can't stress this one enough), size, strength, speed, basketball I.Q., and he's a decent defender. Did he jack shots at times last year? You bet. But for the most part he recognizes the open man better than anyone on this team since the Captain was a Net. If TWill's given the time to develop, and Devin plays well, I think Devin becomes very attractive and expendable. Now if he's carrying us obviously you keep him (DH) but Terrence, TODAY, runs the floor more efficiently.
Favors is really going to be the project. His potential is so vast right now but you could tell how raw he was in the summer league games. I'd love it if we brought in a tough-nosed vet pf, because he needs that kind of mentor. Everything he gets this season will be a result of effort and athleticism, and for that he can't have any fear of the bigger bodies. Nobody comes to mind right now, but a Charles Oakley type would be perfect.
So I think, ideally, these would be the guys to build around. Yes it's a young team, and there's still room for growth (see Lee, Courtney and Morrow, Anthony) but Brook, Terrence, and Favors are the foundation. In 4 years I see Brook and Derrick becoming a fearsome frontcourt, and I think Terrence is the perfect player to mold into a very, very good point guard. That's all I got for now, let the debate begin.
