Stats Don't Lie: A Comparison of the Nets and the Knicks or Why Rod Thorn Should Be Applauded

I am posting this for all of the Nets fans who think the sky is falling and that the Knicks are so much better than the Nets are. This was originally a comment a thread here, but I put so much work into it that I thought it deserved its own post.

So let’s compare starting lineups.

I am going to extrapolate all their numbers as if they were to play 40 minutes a game which is unlikely, but it will be done just for the sake of argument.

Also, extrapolating the numbers assumes that each of them gets an increased number of touches, but let’s just see how it would work out. I’m also using the same stats for each individual position.

Nets vs. Knicks
70.2  vs. 64.6 PPG – Nets
8.1 vs.  6.7 APG – Nets
20.6 vs. 18.3 RPG – Nets
1.2  vs.  1.5 SPG – Knicks
4.3 vs. 3.0 BPG – Nets
89.0 vs. 87.5 PPGE – Nets
9.6 vs. 9.7 APGE – Knicks
25.8 vs. 24.8 RPGE – Nets
1.4   vs.1.8 SPGE – Knicks
5.1 vs. 4.5 BPGE – Nets

7 VS. 3 in favor of the Nets. The Nets win both when the numbers are extrapolated and when they are not. We have a good shot at beating the Knicks especially with our improved bench.

So don't burn your Lopez jerseys or  cross the river to root for that other team because the Nets right now are sitting pretty even without a huge free agent signing.

We also don't have our team invested  in someone whose knees could snap at any moment.

People are pegging the Knicks for a playoff spot so why not the Nets?

I kind of like building a team on a budget.

Any suggestions for making this comparison better are welcome.

*I chose Anthony Morrow because he had better numbers than C-Lee in less minutes.

**I multiplied Derrick Favors numbers by .8 (80%) before extrapolating them in order to account for the difference between the NCAA and the NBA.
