Two More Holes to Fill
The Nets finally got some shopping done, adding Travis Outlaw, Johan Petro and (likely) Anthony Morrow over the last few days.
But they're still missing a power forward and a back-up point guard. The list of potential targets remains the same: Udonis Haslem, Luis Scola and Jordan Farmar.
If a power forward can't be had in free agency, they could go the trade route, with Orlando's Brandon Bass as one who might be available.
- Nets make moves but starting power forward, backup point guard roles still need filling - Dave D'Alessandro - Star-Ledger
- Nets fill up with Petro - Fred Kerber - New York Post
- Nets reach agreement with backup C Johan Petro - Al Iannazzone - The Record
- Nets reach agreements with free agent center Johan Petro and guard Anthony Morrow - Stefan Bondy - New York Daily News
- Net result: Petro planning to sign with New Jersey - Chris Dempsey - Denver Post
- Warriors About to Sign Dorell Wright - Marcus Thompson II - Contra Costa Times
- $12 million deal set with small forward - Rusty Simmons - San Francisco Chronicle

i HIGHLY doubt we sign Haslem. His asking price is way too much. Scola i would give a 3 year 15 million deal to, but Houston would most likely match any deal in that area. i think we will land Farmar and will probably trade for a PF like David West or Bass
Seems that we just need a 2-3 year stop gap until Favors proves he is ready. But I wonder with all of these moves…. are we not giving ourselves some financial flexibility?
we are still $18 million under the cap

Kinda bummed to hear..
the Knicks are pretty close to signing Tim Mozgov, a Center from Russia who Givony has been pretty high on for some time..
I guess the Russians in the front office really don’t have any clout..
My hopes for signing Khryapa have dimmed a bit..
great point, Bubba.
communications between Proky’s homies and Thorn is obviously not in place. Donnie Walsh is doing a lot of smart things this summer, people…… (although that 6th year of Stoudamire will be extremely painful for them)
You can’t say the Knicks are doing anything smart when they’re considering bringing back Isiah Thomas to be the GM.
You completely missed the sarcasm
Walsh was being sarcastic
Please Prokhorov never again listen to the fools that told you it was a good idea to retain Rod Thorn
or maybe they think Petro
with five years in the NBA is a better prospect.
I’ve watch Mozgov highlights. He;s a very athletic 7-footer who’s also physically strong. Pretty raw offensively though. A year or so younger the Petro.
Kirilenko compared him to Varajao
and mentioned him multiple times. It was my understanding that he was locked up until next year. This is a miss.
serious revisionism by D'Allesandro
He says: “First, they didn’t create their cap space to spend $10 million on a power forward, since Favors figures to be a starter by the end of Year 1, as Avery Johnson sees it.”
That is categorically UNTRUE. They made bids on Boozer and Lee. A starting quality, TOP FLIGHT PF has been a need for several years, since KMart left. And Favors will not contribute to Ws this season or next, unless he acclimates to the NBA game a WHOLE lot faster than he did to college or summer league.
SCOLA, people…. S C O L A
houston said they would match
hes basically all they have..
i like scola but he is 30 yrs…and hes going to want a 5 yr deal
"We’re the new Nets. We’re leaving the old behind and we’re in with the new. Hopefully LeBron is going to be a part of that."
-Coach Avery Johnson.
He wants a 5 year deal?
Has he said that? I think he probably won’t get one, and that’s where I’d draw the line, but I would “overpay” him for 3 years, cuz he’s EXACTLY what we need right now.
who doesnt want a 5 yr deal?

Nate considering the Nets?
http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/07/11/rod-thorn-insists-hes-not-retiring-after-leaving-nets/
There’s not a lot left in free agency at point guard, but sources say Nate Robinson is considering the Nets. For the big man, New Jersey is considering putting an offer sheet down on Houston restricted free-agent forward Luis Scola and are looking at Miami forward Udonis Haslem, who is unrestricted.
Nate is perplexing
he is annoying but somewhat talented, he would incite us against the Knicks but would he play with discipline ever?

I agree.
Talent wise I would rather have Nat then farmer, but maturity wise Farmer far superior.
Yeah putting Nat and Twill can scary maturity wise, but imagine Twill feeding Nat on the wing for open shots.
WoW!!!!!!
Another thing under a better coach
Nat did play better.
We know Avery and Mitchell are hard nosed coaches. Can they pull the reigns on Nat?
The last thing I want is TWill hanging out with his good friend Nate. That’s asking for trouble. TWill still has headcase potential, he’s a goofy guy. And that’s fine. You just can’t have two of those because they’ll start hanging out together
I’d have a hard time rooting for him. He was such an annoying pest when he was with the Knicks. Doc seemed to be able to control him in Boston, but maybe that’s because he knew he was on a team that could contend for a championship. My fear is that he lets loose, and jacks up any old shot if we pick him up.
like nate...hes a crowd pleaser
but i dont know if he will be a good influence of twill

Jordan Farmar
He is just 23 years old and made just under 2 million last year, I would offer anywhere between 4-5 million a year for him
It’s amazing that all these years after Kmart’s departure, we still don’t have an NBA starting quality PF.

Please Prokhorov never again listen to the fools that told you it was a good idea to retain Rod Thorn
yeah
but he hast just one year left on it, so it would allow us to keep our flexibility and would be a nice stop-gap solution
but he is hurt
We need someone to begin the season and hopefully Favors can take over. Not the other way around.
I was thinking about what Evan Roberts said about the Marrow signing, the it was wake-up call for C. Lee. I don’t think that. I found it interesting that the Nets decided to sign Marrow after Summer League. T-Will isn’t the answer at the 1 or 2. Dave D makes a good point about Favors. T-Will is out of the line-up and he scores big. We need better guard play. Farmar is would great for when Harris gets hurt, but there are other cheaper options out there like Will Bynum or Kyle Lowry.
I found it interesting that Dave D mentioned that Avery thinks Favors will be ready in a year. I wonder why we should waste our money when Hump could fill that role
Evan Roberts
…..pathetic excuse for a Nets fan.
That said, he’s also off base. Lee and Morrow can form a good SG rotation. Both can shoot, Morrow obviously better but Lee is the better defender. Any idiot would be happy to have both, but I wouldn’t expect some dude who IMO is a closet Knicks fan to think that way. He was gushing over the Knicks offseason, I’m like okay, they signed a big name and got some pieces, and? They’re still not heads and shoulders above us.

Where is TWill in all this?
Is he a 2? if so is he behind Lee and potentially Morrow? Is he a Three, now behind Outlaw and possibly fighting for backup with James? or is he PG in training, behind Harris and possibly behind a new back up PG?
I like TWill and he had a good run out in summer league but where does he fit into the programme now? Was he at Summer league to showcase himself as a trade chip? I hope not, but where does he play? If Avery thinks he can be Harris’ understudy then great, but his great versitility is almost working againt him.

plug and play
you don’t worry about it, he’s the only other Net besides Harris that can create his own shot off of the dribble. There are plenty of minutes to go around.
I don’t get the T-Will is the odd man out. A triple double threat that can become even better under Avery’s direction isn’t the odd man out

I don't get it, either
It’s not like those guys are better then him.
TWill is one of the guys we’re building around. Those guys (Lee, Morrow, Outlaw, James) are the complementary pieces to our building blocks, and TWill is one of them.
Avery looked at what he has....
….and decided to put shooters around Lopez, Harris, and Williams, our three best players. Smart move IMO

I don’t think that we’ve done anything particularly stupid, other than giving Outlaw 2 years too many. Everything that has been done has improved the roster.

TWill
is a waaaaaaay superior player to Lee, Morrow, Outlaw and James.
Why do people want to read to much into all this? We needed a shooter, and we needed true SFs, and that’s what we brought here. Unlike TWill, who is a STUD and a potential star player, all those wings are ROLE PLAYERS. He will have no problem finding any minutes in Avery’s rotation. Those role players will be fighting for their minutes, 15-20-25 minutes a night.
exactly
I think people also look into the summer league stuff too much. Everyone jacks up shots in summer league. Do you guys really think that T-Will is going to play out of control under Avery?

Now that I think about it folks
….it would be prudent for us to not overbid for Scola or Haslem. I like them, they’d be perfect, but since we aren’t desperate to win now, why bother?
What other free agent PFs are out there? I’m more interested in making sure that we maintain some cap flexibility instead.
Maybe bring back Josh Boone on the cheap, and platoon it with him, Favors, and the Hump?

We should have offered more...
For him to leave the team he’s played and faught hard for the past few years, he needs more money to be convinced to leave.
At this point a couple of mill is moot. It should have been 27-30 mill.
i hear the Knicks just signed Timofey Mozgov.
The Knicks are on the verge of signing Russian free agent center Timofey Mozgov to a three-year contract.
DraftExpress.com calls Mozgov “a big body and super athletic guy who rebounds, block shots and finishes really well around the rim.” The deal is worth about $3.2 million per year, which is good value for the Knicks. Jul. 11 – 9:32
Don't panic...
Its probably another ex-KGB sleeper spy attempt, he wont be allowed to draw attention to himself by being any good. He will told to sit on the bench and watch for anything suspicious.

Haslem is not leaving MIA. he will prob resign for whatever they offer him. He is from Fla and he and wade are very close.
so you think Haslem will sacrifice MANY MILLIONS
to be an insignificant shadow in the My-Am- I Three Egos extravaganza? He already has a trophy, BTW.
I might be wrong, but I think there is going to be a lot of discord among the bit players in Miami, especially those who are expected to take less than their value to play, or ESPECIALLY to stay for less money.
That situation will implode
which is why they all have 4 year outs.
I think Wade and Lebron will end up hating each other anyway.

Well there is also the possibility that playing him too much is bad
If he’s not doing well on the court, it could shoot down his confidence like a rock. Those are the times sitting and watching and learning are better than playing
That could happen either way. AND … if that does happen, then we get a PF via trade and forget about him.
He would have his confidence boosted or shot down no matter what, he will playing in the game regardless.
No, playing in limited minutes is different than full on load of minutes, that's why some guys are only meant to be bench guys playing limited minutes
Playing against starters or backups are different too.
there's also no faster way to ruin him permanently

most of these posters here have no idea about the concept of nurturing. It’s like expecting a child to either ride a bike well from minute one, and if that doesn’t happen, sell the bike and buy him a pocket protector and a sliderule instead.
Favors is a PROJECT. We need to bring him along SLOWLY and CAREFULLY.

That’s total BS. A GREAT player, which I am told he is, will be ready. He came out of college early for a reason.
You take that bike analogy, and I say to that, the best ride their bikes early, and from day one. You think Dave Mirra/Matt Hoffman couldn’t ride their bikes young? This is basketball, if a player cant handle it then get him out.
what he CAN be a great player
right now anyone who watches him can see he is clearly not ready to start. He came out of college early because he was going to be a top 3 pick because of upset. Plenty of guys come out of college early and don’t start immediately, and there’s a reason for that. You send him out there now it will be a disaster, and ruin his confidence and probably cause him to develop some really terrible habits.
I want Jerry Manuel fired now, not three years from now. That is my stance.- John Peterson
You don’t get confidence by being on the bench. IF he is like that and his confidence will be ruined, which I have no idea what your talking about btw., coach will just say get in there, get some rebounds, done deal…anyway if he is like that, weak confidence, then how will not starting help that exactly? Its not like he is going out there playing street ball, there will be a whole army of staff and other professionals helping him out.
could you say this again
in english?
I want Jerry Manuel fired now, not three years from now. That is my stance.- John Peterson
because he can sit behind a veteran pf
who can teach him how to box out, how to play defense without collecting 7 fouls in 30 minutes, how to use his size. He won’t have the onus of trying to perform on him or the blame for games he’d inevitably cost us. Throw a player as raw as he is right now and he’ll definitely cost us games, which will just destroy his confidence.
Just watching the guy you can see he clearly hasn’t even grown into his body yet, he needs to learn how to control it and use his size to his advantage before we can even think about him learning post moves or and etc. And if you throw him into a situation where he’s over his head he’s going to be too busy trying to compensate to properly develop.
I want Jerry Manuel fired now, not three years from now. That is my stance.- John Peterson
Yeah, that makes sense… on a good team. We got the 3rd pick in the draft for a reason.
We got 12 wins last season, I never hear any defending of a bad player last year because of confidence issues. How many players confidence should have been shattered last year? Should be every single one of them, but they will all move on. I just don’t see confidence as being an issue in this day and age. So he takes a bad shot late in a game, so he fouls out early… I expect him to learn from that, not be crushed. Quite frankly, if he is crushed from something like that, he isn’t strong enough for my team.
Well we should get some neanderthals, I'm sure they would they would fit quite well on your team of manly alpha males
This is a ROOKIE. First time playing with guys around 5 years older than him. Not the most polished player either. We got him with the 3rd pick with the full knowledge that he’s a project, that he’ll take time to be a great player. Apparently you didn’t get that memo. If we wanted starter we would have gone Cousins
How is a player suppose to learn from his mistakes?
Cousin would make mistakes also, no difference there.
He won't be able to learn from mistakes by playing behind someone and seeing how someone with more experience does it correctly?
By having someone with more experience tell him, hey, this is how you handle this.
Not having him starting isn’t making him unaccountable. He’ll get out there and be able to try again. But in the scenario of having him on the bench, you will have a choice, he won’t be forced out there and try to apply it instantly if he still doesn’t grasp it because you don’t have anyone else to play.
??? “That’s how you do it correctly kiddd”
That’s how whats done correctly? Boxing out? Shooting? Defending? Y’all really think that
I’m sure he has watched plenty of tape before. Plenty of games. and he will be practicing like a mad man where people are going to be explaining to him. I just don’t see a scenario where something bad can happen. You guys are handling with little kid gloves.
So you think all you do is watch tape and you'll be ready for the NBA?
Ask any rookie. Ask every rookie. The NBA game will be unlike anything they’ve ever played in. In will be an entirely different environment. The players will all be bigger, better, stronger, than anything they’ve faced before. The game will be faster, more tiring, and more complex.
Did playing him immediately a lot help TWill? He was stinking up the place. Going 0-12, making bad passes, not doing anything. Let him do that unbridled and you’re asking for bad habits to form
I agree with you 100% on your first paragraph.
2nd Paragraph – Did playing Twill immediately NOT help Twill either? You think he actually learned something watching Hassel from the bench? They have completely diff games. He only progressed when they let him loose and actually get out there and make his mistakes. The good ones quickly learn.
There is no point to signing a Hasslem or Bass type of player for multiple years to this team, unless you all are saying all we did was draft a backup PF with the #3 pick in the draft for the duration of the contract of whoever we are offering one to. Bass and Udonis dont even fit with this team, they are roll players, and we def dont have Dwade. Again, if we were putting Favors behind Amare or Bosh to learn, thats one thing, but the crop we are left with? No.
I think there is plenty TWill could have learn’t from Hassel, its just he will probably be a bit older before he realises it.
Tim, Tim, Tim
you are obviously very young and very naive. There are so many great players in the NBA who were nowhere near ready to start at the beginning of their careers. If this fact is lost on you, than there is nothing much to talk about it.
Name some? All the great ones I can think of started right away… even Brook.
I dont want to have this kid come off the bench giving all this energy only to have to be benched in the 4th, by a nobody FA!
great players who didnt start...
Actually Brook didnt start right away, Boone was our starter and Brook played off the bench until Boone got hurt. KOBE is a great player who didnt start right away, he came off the bench for 2 years in LA. Tracy McGrady came off the bench in Toronto for 2-3years. Not sure but I think Garnett didnt start for half a season. Scottie Pippen didnt start for about a year and a half. the list goes on and on…
All your half year players you mention, your so certain that it was that half year on the bench that made them who they are! Bogus.
umm...
Half year players? I clearly explained, Kobe was on the bench for TWO years(not a half year), McGrady was on the bench for TWO-THREE years(not a half year), and Pippen was on the bench for ONE year and a half(not a half year), KG and Brook were the only 2 that may have been for 1/2 a year but the others are CLEARLY superstars who started off on the bench instead of starting.
sorry, you're wrong
Ask Kobe Bryant if he started over Eddie Jones during his rookie year

Eddie Jones started on a playoff team. When Kobe was in the game he shot air balls, which cost them the game. If we are a playoff team in contention for the title then yes, we start our better PF.
My point, and I will say it again, if we have someone who is clearly better, and we are actually going somewhere, then yes it makes sense to have Favors off the bench, BUT I totally in no way buy into this notion that bringing Kobe off the bench made him who he was, or any other player for that matter, because there are infinite cases both ways. I look at every situation in life and this is how it is. You can have all the schooling in the world for example and your still nothing until you get out there. I just don’t see how this would hurt him, and again, if by chance it does, then maybe he isn’t strong enough.
Do you really think coaches like to lose games?
If they were that much better than their counterpart at the time do you think the coaches wouldnt have put them in to win games? the fact is the coaches obviously watched them in practice, games, etc and made the decision that they werent ready yet. It doesnt make them any less of a superstar or less of a talent if they have to wait until they “get it”.
Yes i think he will sacrifice millions. He was drafted by the heat and wants to stay there. Wade took less money just so Haslem can stay and Haslem knows this. Plus Haslem is not a star and knows his role on the team. Bang and rebound. Why would he want to come here? I rather put and offer into Scola. Or pull a trade.

that Avery can control Nate and turn him into a Tiny archibald or a Calvin Murphy type player…Nate is also an excellent passer when he puts his mind to it…..Farmar already has alot of rings and I don’t feel he has that fire in him anymore……Some of you Fans are under estimating the power of SCOLA…SCOLA…SCOLA…SCOLA…SCOLA…..He is a TEAM CHANGER…..I’d offer this guy Max Pay and Five Years…….Oligarch is 100 % correct…This guy is an animal and would be a great teacher for FAVORS , LOPEZ and basically the whole team…….
I think we've overrated Avery's abilities by now
By the thinking of Nets fans, Avery will be able to control any player, and be able to make him play defense. Avery is strict, but a miracle maker he is not. A stubborn player would sooner tune out a coach than change himself.
I mean, any time a player who is a bit of a headcase or doesn’t play defense comes up, our automatic answer is “Avery will set him straight”. Scott Skiles was an intense coach. And none of his guys could take him after a few years.

Whoa Whoa.....
I love SCOLA, without a doubt, I’m his biggest fan, but no way would I offer max salary for 5 years. I say $11M per for 3 years with team option for 4th, or $9+M per for 4 years.
His value is inversely proportional to Favors as Favors develops, but we need a solid 3 player rotation at the bigs, and Scola should be (and should have been from 12:01 AM on July 01) our top choice.
I'm agreeing with you........
alright 99 %………You and I both know what SCOLA can accomplish with a team……..Actually , I would have set our sights on him instead of Baby Bosh to go along with that other Big Baby(Sorry Glen) that we were attempting to land .(Which I still feel that was the biggest mistake that he will ever make in his life b/c he would have had the best business success here and he would have won titles here with him being the lead player…His Loss)……And I still think that he plays like he is 21 years old…….Lots of Energy to go along with a Super High B-Ball IQ…He is actually getting better every year…..SCOLA does it all….
Gotta be Brandon Bass
if he’s available. If the Magic match Reddick, they’ll be hit with the luxury tax. They barely played Bass last year and Lewis and VC’s contracts are killing them. Bass is cheap and very tough. Favors and Bass would give us a nice PF rotation with a lot of flexibility to make trades during the season. If it can be done it’s a no brainer..
I dont get it…. why is everyone so high on getting a PF? Wait until the trade deadline and at least give it half a year and see how Favors does, if he is the 3rd pick he should be starting. Its one thing if we had one of the stud FA’s like Amare or Bosh, but why should we spend money on PF’s that barely start…
Any way you slice it we need another Power Forward
what if someone gets hurt is Favors or Hump going to play 48 minutes?
We need a PF
Favors is not ready to start and The Hump is not a starter. You have to bring Favors along at a reasonable pace.
Bass would be good, but at this point it’s fantasy.

absolutely need a PF
We’ve got 4 bigs under contract right now (even though Outlaw and DJames can occasionally fill in at PF in a small rotation) and we NEED someone who can put in minutes at Center. If Lopez goes down for a game, gets in foul trouble, or gawd forbid suffers an injury, we are SKUNKED with the present rotation.
We need a PF/C who is tough, mature, has complementery skills to Lopez, and can mentor Derrick Favors. We need Luis Scola.
If, as some accounts suggest, we have offered Haslem $20M for 3 years and he accepts, I can live with that. But Scola is much better and worth a lot more money for a 3 year contract.
You're not satisifed with Petro for 3 years at 10 mil as your backup C?
all the reports are “he will back up Lopez”. Thorn said fit in nicley “in tthe rotation”.
What do yo think?
You need 3 player depth at every position
That’s easier at SG, SF, and PF, than at PG and C. The 2 players we have who can play C are exclusively Centers. If Lopez goes down we will lose every game until he comes back, unless there is a capable backup, which Petro isn’t. I am totally DONE with Josh Boone. There is no Tony Battie, Swat Williams, or Stromile Swift.
We need a third body who can play C, and he dam sure should be better than Johan Petro. Whoever it is, should be a combo PF/C, whose main function is to groom Favors at PF. Haslem or Scola fit that description perfectly. Brandon Bass doesn’t.
We also need a 2nd unit pass first PG. (TWill is our third player capable of putting in minutes at PG).
where are we going to find a 'capable back up C'
I’m hard pressed to think about a back up C that isn’t a stiff or isn’t a PF just moved to the 5 until the starter comes back in.
Petro fills a need. We’re not going to find some double double guy to back up Brook Lopez.

How about the International Free Agent route for us
DraftExpress #5 International Free Agent sounds like he’d fit (Richard Hendrix)
Drafted in 2008 by the Golden State Warriors late in the second round after a pre-draft physical uncovered potential red flags in his knee, Richard Hendrix was unceremoniously dumped by Don Nelson when he found out that he shockingly is not a fit for his system in the least bit. Hendrix seemed to have made out just fine from the deal, pocketing a cool half a million dollars in guaranteed cash for under a month of service. He proceeded to join the D-League, where he looked somewhat disinterested at times, but still found a way to average nearly 15 rebounds per-40 minutes pace adjusted, good for second in the league. He then played extremely well in two separate summer leagues (Orlando and Vegas) as a member of the Magic and Nuggets’ rosters, but when no NBA team came calling with guaranteed cash, opted to sign in the Spanish ACB with CB Granada.
The move seems to be paying off quite well for Hendrix, as he’s already established himself as one of the more productive big men in the league—averaging nearly 20 and 10 per-40 minutes pace adjusted—despite being a 23-year old rookie in the toughest domestic league in Europe. If anything, he’s upped his value significantly in Europe by showing that he can translate his game over to a new style of play, and he’s surely improved in his own right along the way.
What Hendrix brings to the table is quite obvious for those who have seen him or followed him throughout the years on this site. He’s a brute force underneath the basket with his terrific body, huge hands and 7-3 wingspan. He’s not a terribly skilled offensive player but is regardless fairly effective around the paint, particularly with his back to the basket. His main virtues lie in his rebounding ability, as he boxes out opponents extremely well and does an excellent job pursuing loose balls with his soft hands and long arms. He is yet to develop much of a face-up game and still a liability from the free throw line, two things he must address as his career moves on, but is a highly efficient player (leading the ACB in field goal percentage) who understands his limitations and comes off as quite an intelligent and fundamentally sound player.
Defensively, Hendrix is an undersized center who is effective guarding the post thanks to his strength, smarts and tenacity, but loses effectiveness the more he steps away from the basket. In today’s NBA, though, where players like David Lee and Chuck Hayes are thriving at the center position that might not be as much of an issue as it was in years past, despite the fact that Hendrix can’t be described as anything more than an average athlete at best.
As the Kurt Thomas’ and Reggie Evans’ of the world slowly get phased out in favor of younger big men, it’s only natural for teams to look in the direction of players like Hendrix to fill their void in their respective rotations. Considering the way he’s produced at every stage of his career thus far, it’s not out of the question that he could surprise someone and develop into a valuable asset.

that's what she said...
(for the article title)
but seriously, get Scola and procure Morrow and we should be a playoff team in the East…for example Harris/Scola/Lopez would be to us at least what Rose/Boozer/Noah will be to Chicago…

How much flexability is there for Outlaw and James to cover a few minutes at the 4? TWill and Lee can cover the 3 should they need to for a bit duiing a game.
Still think we need another PF, but maybe we dont need to blow the bank on a big contract one just yet? We all loved Humpries when he came in last season and played with some heart. Maybe we have wait this one out. That said it does depend on our 3s being able to do a bit of work at 4. Not convinced either have much PF in them, but its just a thought. (see, i’m talking myself out of it as i keep typing).
I think Outlaw will see a lot of PT at the 4
Esp if we don’t get a significant PF. In Portland they played him at the 4 a lot.
I think James will fare better at the 4 than Outlaw
Outlaw is really better as a 3 than a 4, James can probably more comfortable at the 4 than him

TO SMALL BALL

Not all the time
Small ball has a time and place in this league. To shun it completely is wrong. It’s what let Orlando beat Cleveland to get to the Finals. Used in the right time, it’s deadly

I feel like it's not really small ball
when you have a man child at center
I want Jerry Manuel fired now, not three years from now. That is my stance.- John Peterson
yeah
having a rebounding, shot blocking machine that looks like he was created in a lab does help

What about trading for an old wily vet like McDyess?
He’s waaay past his prime, but he can help teach Favors, sit in the PF spot for the beginning of the season until Favors is ready. The Spurs just signed Tiago Splitter so he is expendable.
Their only other bigs are DeJuan Blair and Matt Bonner. In the playoffs, it's still gonna be McDyess getting most minutes since the former two are somewhat defensive liabilities
In a trade we need to target Carl Landry from the kings. They have 3 Bigs over there including cousins.
If the jazz dont match Matthews offer sheet they will have no Nba SG. Offer them Lee and picks for AK47.
Jason Maxiell is buried behind villanueva and jerebko on the pistons.

why in the world would we offer Lee and picks
for an expensive expiring contract to unhappy player who hasn’t been all that effective. The idea of getting AK-47 was supposed to be because he’d come cheaply given his cost and his underwhelming production the last year or so.
I want Jerry Manuel fired now, not three years from now. That is my stance.- John Peterson
AK47 has one more (way too expensive) year
I have no idea why he was ever mentioned. There is no scenario where it is sensible to get him…. except MAYBE at the trade deadline, but I don’t see that even as a remote possibility now.
wait I thought it was expiring this year?>
yeah in that case I don’t get it either. Unless they think they can negotiate him into a smaller longer contract, but even then that’s only worth it if he regains form.
I want Jerry Manuel fired now, not three years from now. That is my stance.- John Peterson
The Nets....
should fill one of those holes with Brandon Heath from our Summer League…..SCOLA ,for the 2nd….
We should just bring dooling back.
Twill is going to handle the ball with the second unit anyway. Dooling would be a good vet leader on the bench.
Absolutely
Is there a better free agent backup pg out there? I think not
luke ridnour
though I don’t know if he’ll sign as a back up.
I want Jerry Manuel fired now, not three years from now. That is my stance.- John Peterson
RIDNOUR / SCOLA
If not than trade Devin Harris for a #1 Draft Pick next year , Bring Back Dooling and TANK…That’s Rebuilding…..
I"ve said it on many of these threads - bring back Dooling.
Hopefully, someone in the FO is thinking that way.
how is his hip though?
we can’t waste money on him if he’s going to be banged up. It’s bad enough that Harris is only good for 60 games a year.
"No one stands on the top of the world. Not you, not me, not even gods. But the unbearable vacancy of the throne in the sky is over. From now on...I will be sitting on it."
can someone confirm
I read on ESPN that nets 3 year $20 ml offer to Udonis Haslem. This is the first I’ve heard about. I’d rather get Harrington who’s a little more productive. Why isn’t Harrington on the Nets radar?
he's a ball-jacking loser
Avery would go postal on him in no time.
Idea Trade in Mind with Magic
dont know if the magic would do it but
Nets get Gortat and Bass for like picks and like trade exception and like someone like humps or lee
this would be good because we can add alot of depth
i also did the math and if we dont trade anyone and we just trade picks we would still have 6.7 million left in cap space
Gortat Makes 7 per for 4 yrs and bass 4 million for 3 yrs
so with us having morrow at 4 million outlaw at 7 million and Petro at 3 million that comes out to 14 million so 25-3.3-4=17.7 and with gortat and bass money at 11 million we would have 6.7 left 17.7-11=6.7
we would have alot of depth and then with half of that like 4or 5 we can get farmer
Harris/Farmer
Lee/Williams/Morrow
Outlaw/KingJames
Bass/Favors/Humps
Lopez/Gortat/Petro
i know we would have alot of centers but if anything during the season there might be a suitor for Bass or Gortat
also petro is a big risk
"Avery Johnson: Erase to Replace"
Wall2KingJames to JamesSucks
Why would Orlando trade both?
That doesnt make sense for Orlando. They are going to be in a play off hunt.
I would prefer only Bass. Dont need to waste cap space on both. They will only end up being two back up PFs and Cs.
long time reader,first time poster
I am happy with direction the team is goin…could be much much worse..Rod Thorn could be considering ISIAH FREEKIN THOMAS as his successor!!!

Josh Boone for starting PF!
He’d give us 10 and 10 on the cheap.
I would love to see him ditch the braids and start over.
by Joe Uras on Jul 11, 2010 5:28 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
No offence intended to Boone
but it was having players of his ability starting that saw us loose 70 games.
