Source: Thibodeau accepts Bulls' offer
Well it looks like its etween either Avery or Phil jackson for the Nets. The jury is still out on wheather Thibs can be as good as a head coach as he is an assistant. I think the Nets need a coach that is not only a leader but is a strong voice in the media (with the move to New York upon us) and also has some success as a head coach in the league. I have nothing against Thibs and I hear nothing but good things as far as his work ethic but leading is something that comes with time and patienence. Good Luck in the windy city!!

It's kinda dangerous for him to go to a young team
Especially one that has gone through Scott Skiles since he might be Skiles part 2. A group of old vets will be better able to handle an intense guy than a bunch of young guys who will stop listening once they’ve had enough of you. They were only able to take around 2-3 years of Skiles, let’s see if Thibs fares better
Where is this Phil Jackson stuff coming from?
Its really between Avery Johnson and going back to the drawing board, since Avery may have an offer from Atlanta shortly.
All the other people to be interviewed are just courtesy interviews and attempts to put some pressure on Avery Johnson. That includes Mike Brown, Mark Jackson and any current Assistant Coaches.
I don’t doubt that Thorn would extend a courtesy call to Phil and Doc the moment the playoffs are over, but by then a contract should be prepared, ready for Avery to sign.
Next week should be a 2nd interview for Avery, when they meet to begin to go over terms of a potential contract.
Bleep that
If LeBron signs with the Bulls, and that is a distinct possibility, then Thorn has a lot of explaining to do. All I’ve heard is a bunch of big talk. We’re going after Coach K, but then we never even contact the guy, much less make him an offer. We talk about Phil Jackson like that is a real possibility. There is a “big surprise” in our coaching search. Is it that there is no surprise? That we are just winging this most important off-season ever?
The Bulls just out-manuevered us. They signed the best coaching candidate and one who might very well be LeBron’s choice. Of course, we’ll see, but if LeBron to Chi-town happens, we are going to get a new GM, and not a moment too soon. Thorn should have gotten canned for transparently throwing Kiki under the bus and for stunting the development of our young talent. Now we are saying that “everything is new”, but we are doing nothing except interviewing an idiot retread coach whose dominant regular season teams won just 20% of their last 15 playoff games. Reminds me of the slogan “Day one, everything changes”. Remember whose that was? Eliot Spitzer, and we all know how that turned out. Hope I’m wrong, but the buzz is wearing off.
+1. There is only 1 excuse left and thats that we are waiting to see what coach Lebron wants
If he ends up in Chicago it’ll show just how smart this waiting game really was. Lets not forget that Thibs signed a 2 year $6mil deal with an option for a 3rd rather then the idiotic 5 year $85mil proposal ideas i’ve read here about Phil.
Where did you ever hear about the Nets going after Phil Jackson? That is a lot of nonsense
It is only Nets fans and some eager reporters who started that rumor. Thorn and Jackson denied it immediately.
Phil Jackson is irrelevant to the LeBron discussion.
And Thorn never went after Coach K. That was probably someone in the Proky camp following orders, to let people know that Proky means business! Nothing more. They had to find a way to be respectful of Coach K.
Nets should focus on signing Avery before the draft. Then drafting and getting the 1st free agent in early July, with an overall plan in mind.
That means punting on Favors already. Favors would be the biggest LeBron killer, not the absence of a particular coach.
Nets would still be able to hire an Assistant Coach to LeBron’s liking. This coaching stuff is overrated in regards to LeBron.
Avery said he would make LeBron a better jump shooter. That is all he needs to know.
According to Hoopsworld...Thibs is gonna be getting a very reasonable contract.
What can’t be ignored, however, is the fact that Thibodeau came at a very reasonable price of about $2.2 million per year for three season ($6.5 million for the life of the contract).
that’s some quality for price.
