WhoopDeDamnDo: Why do Nets Fans Fear Cousins?
I explore why Nets fans seem to unanimously agree that Derrick Favors is a much better fit than DeMarcus Cousins.

Cousins is like KMart with 30 extra pounds of fat...
Or a shorter, much less athletic fatter Shaq.
Or Eddie Curry with a slightly higher b-ball IQ.
Or Tractor Traylor with better post moves.
What are you afraid of?
Cousins is better than Lopez. Cousins is going to be an allstar before Lopez!
If you're talking fit
It’s because Brook Lopez does have trouble with shooting/smaller big men. I’ve watched him have so much trouble with guys who can shoot from 15 feet and out because he can’t close out properly. Brad freakin Miller kills him with a shot fake and drives right past him because he closes out too hard on shooters. Favors also is more of a dedicated defender and people feel we could use that instead of more scoring.
Like if you had a choice, between Ben Wallace or Zach Randolph beside Brook, who would you take? A guy who will score more and get more rebounds, or a guy who will be a better defender but not as good of a rebounder or scorer?
I’m not saying he’s the better fit, just saying why people think that.
If Cousins was dedicated to defense, and didn’t have conditioning or personality issues, I’d take him, fit be damned. But I’m a big fan of defense.
Cousins is a good kid. That’s what Cal, Wall and Patterson will tell you. I’ve read what UK fans have to say about in different Nets forums/fan sites, and they all say nothing but good things about DC. He is an All-time fan favorite in Kentucky. They love him in Lexington, and we’ll love him here.
Of course they're going to say that.
They’re affiliated with the UK program, they have a vested interest in talking up all of their players, not least for future recruiting purposes. What do disinterested observers say about his attitude?
Personally, I’m more worried about (a) his weight and conditioning, and (b) that he’s really a 5 and not a 4, than I am about his maturity. So at times he acts like a teenager because guess what? He still is one.

Not like it would reflect well on them to throw their teammate under the bus
Daniel Orton did say Cousins was just that, a kid, making kid decisions.
And I don’t know how much Cal loved Cousins when they had their shouting matches in the games. Or when he chewed out DC after doing the call me gesture, and then he did it again the next game.
He’s about to go into a job with and for grown adults. Being immature will not help. Now, we all do mature at different rates, heck, some 30 year old guys still have 13 year old brains, but if he’s gonna realize his potential he better learn to not be a juvenile
And I don’t know how much Cal loved Cousins

Calipari said he couldn’t be more impressed with Cousins’ personality and the way he respects his coaches and teammates.
"He’s not some self-absorbed jag-off," Calipari said. "He’s really not. He’s got a huge heart for other people. He cares about how they feel."
Monique Cousins relocated her family to Lexington last summer to help Cousins adapt to college life. Cousins’ 16-year-old brother, Jaleel – who stands 6-6 and weighs 255 pounds – enrolled at an area high school and everything seemed great.
But after a few months Monique’s mother fell ill and she had to move back to Mobile. By that time she said she was more than comfortable with leaving her son alone in his new surroundings.
"He’s in an environment where he can be himself," she said. "No one is out to get him anymore. He doesn’t have a target on his back."
You can’t take anything Cal says in this situation. Where Cousins goes in the draft directly impacts himself and the Kentucky basketball program, obviously he’s going to say what he has to to improve Cousins’ draft stock.
Now, if you were giving me negative information from Cal, that would have some relevance. All you’re showing me is him saying what he has to say.
If I remember correctly, didn’t the BC coach give the thumbs up to Sean Williams?
Cousins is the PMS version of Kmart
Just because you are emotional doesn’t mean that this emotion is GOOD.
