Sign of the Times
If James Dolan doesn't yet know he's in a fight with Mikhail Prokhorov for the hearts and minds of New York basketball fans, he will be by Thursday. That's when a 225' x 95' billboard featuring images of the Nets' new owner and Jay-Z intertwined with the words, "Blueprint for Greatness", will be completed...at the corner of 34th and 8th...overlooking Madison Square Garden!
(Pause here for audible gasp)
"That billboard is the anchor to an aggressive marketing platform for key transit hubs from Manhattan to Newark," said Brett Yormark, offering the most benign explanation of something that's hardly benign. As the boss said last month, "I have only one secret. We’re going to turn Knicks fans into Nets fans. It’s a part of success."
Or as he said in a statement Tuesday about the billboard, "Jay-Z and I both understand that success takes vision and big thinking. We want everyone to know just how high we are aiming for the future of the Nets."
- The Blueprint for Greatness - Al Iannazzone - In the 'Zzone
- Casting Nets: Signs to lure fans on Knicks turf - Marc Stein - ESPN New York
- Nothing but Nets above MSG - Fred Kerber & Oliver Renick - New York Post
- Mikhail Prokhorov and Jay-Z standing tall over Madison Square Garden - Kurt Helin - NBC Sports

fantastic. look at this aggression. gotta love it
Nets are taking NYC!
And James Dolan is a miserable recluse that has no chance against Proky and Jay-Z.
Excellent.

We just spit right in their faces.

He's all in at this point...
Getting LBJ increases the value of the franchise by $200 million overnight. Proky is no idiot.
“We’re going to turn Knicks fans into Nets fans. It’s a part of success.”
The Two Things to Achieve This
1. Keep the Knicks in squalor.
2. Win Championships.
The one way to do both…get Lebron James.

hope they leave room in that billboard for photo-shopping Lebron into the picture. Can you imagine?

The Knicks are rendered irrelevant overnight.

Wow! That is cold.
If Nets prevail and get LeBron, the borough of Manhattan will be on it’s knees. This might be one of the most significant smackdowns to Gotham’s image in our lives.
NEWARK RULES!
Where's the billboard if Dolan?
How about one of Jerry R?
acw…let us talk about the ownership differential among the teams. When did Jerry last go over the luxury tax threshold?
Awesome Sales Pitch
I hope they leave room for two more faces, and tell Lebron & the other FAs, your face overlooks NYC as soon as you sign on the dotted line.

You have to love our core. Devin, Courtney, Terrence, Brook. Now add two quality pieces in Favors and Damion. We have guys that will compliment two star free agents. We also have a more complete team then most and one that free agents should see as a winning situation sooner rather than later.
LETS GO NETS!

I love what we have done so far. We have in essence dumped players that were not part of a winning formula and ones that I did not see as having a bright future with us: YI, CDR, Hassell, Simmons, Quinn, Battie. We also have drafted two quality players that I believe will gel with the core players we still have. It should be an exciting young team to watch.

too funny
stick it to them! the knicks do own new york right now, but iwithout good reason. they are hardly the yankees or giants winning championships all the time

Not for nothing but who the hell is Charles Dolan?
The guy who owns the Knicks is JAMES Dolan. Guess if you wanna try to rub Knicks faces in trashtalk, might help to get names right?
Credit does go to an aggressive marketing strategy though.
And on the topic… maybe the Nets gain a little more respect if they put actual PLAYERS on this big billboard, no? You guys have names…Brook Lopez, Devin Harris, Derick Favors… maybe let your fans know who is on your team, perhaps?
No one is coming to play with Prokhorov and Jay-Z…. guess the faces of your franchise are not even players…

There is no cap on advertising. The Nets should be everywhere. LBJ can be put on commericals by the team day and night to get free publicity.
Al from the Record was on espnews
and they asked why should Lebron go to the nets?
JayZ and Proky
and why he might not go to the nets?
Newark and 12 win season
im guessing that wat everyone was expecting to hear
Also Al believes The nets need to bring someone with Lebron because he wont come by himself

extremely lame and futile attempt at converting knick fans into net fans. it’ll never happen.

I love when people say "12-70"
and then fail to understand that two of those wins came at the expense of the Knicks.
In two days, a Bulls fan and a Knicks fan have come on here talking trash, and doing so by bringing up our record. 4 out of our 12 wins were against those team, and we blew out the Knicks TWICE.
GTFO!

My question is....
Would Jay-Z and Proky risk looking foolish by painting a giant FU on Dolan’s front door and then settle for Gay and Scola? I get the feeling they are very confident of landing the big prize.
Then they can modify the billboard to show the billionaire businessman, the closing fast on a billion media mogul and the wanna be billionaire athelete.
Do you really think that Jay Z doesn't know what Lebron wants to do?
He probably let the Nets know what they would have to do
1)cap room enough to sign himself and another player
2)significant talent base already in place
Jay Z and Prokho are about to take out the trash. You can see the steam blowing out of the Knicks fans ears all the way out here

Jay-Z
I wonder if the nature of the deal between Jay-Z and the Nets have changed since Prokhorov bought the team. Either way their marketing strategy in using JayZ has changed. It may just be because JayZ was hesitant to attach his name to the Nets until the culture of the organization changed.
Would it be out of the question that he got some “incentives” for promoting the team? Like options to buy a larger share of the Nets at a predetermined price. Therefore he could raise help raise the value of the franchise and buy in at a depressed price.
By being up front publicly for the Nets
….does WONDERS.
