The Nets will stream their press conference with Derrick Favors and Damion James this morning starting at 11 a.m.

In addition to the two rookies, Rod Thorn and Avery Johnson will take questions, a lot of which will concern Thorn's impending departure and the Nets' travel plans for the rest of the week.

good

We’d be foolish to do so. We need to defend the paint

So true. I love brook but i am concerned that he wont be able to put on the strength and muscle he needs to this summer because of the mono. So having someone there to give us defense where we need it (cause some of our guards let their people blow by them to the paint) will be great

First question for Favors

His answer included the words “hard work”

by Jbller3 on Jun 29, 2010 11:12 AM EDT reply actions

Favors says he wants to work on his jumper, Damion wants to work on his ball handling.

I love Avery Johnson

I really like derrick favors but he looks like he is a little shy (which isn’t a knock on him cause he is 18 years old). I am really encouraged by his constant mention of hard work. I am also really impressed with Damion Jones. When asked if he felt he should have been picked higher, he said that he was happy with the situation he was brought into. this contrasts a player like CDR who is always trying to prove something, which led him down a slippery slope. If Damion can hit a 3 and play defense (and hopefully work on his ball handle) i would be happy.

Damion James doesnt look 6-7 next to Derrick…

So Damion is 10 and Favors is 14

They just showed them holding up their jerseys for pictures James is wearing #10, Favors wearing 14

shhhhhhh....

….couldn’t do that yet, Cleveland is already preparing their tampering case against us as we speak

I hope Favors says hard work every day.

It is something that he needs to do. He has all of the natural physical gifts but if he is going to be a special player, yup you guessed it, he needs to put in HARD WORK!

Boring Press Conference

Boring . . . the interviews afterwards with Rod Thorn should get interesting

by Mookie Blaylock on Jun 29, 2010 11:27 AM EDT reply actions

Avery kept having to answer questions not meant for him bec of the guy at the mic

by mikeinnj on Jun 29, 2010 11:28 AM EDT reply actions

Favors seems to lack confidence

Maybe its humility, maybe he’s just humble, or maybe he just understands his limitations for the time being, but lets be honest, the guy doesn’t exactly inspire confidence because he seems to lack it himself.

Or maybe I’m just reading too much into it.

by Dobermite on Jun 29, 2010 11:28 AM EDT reply actions

That's true

He doesn’t look like a leader. But the kid should be good.

by NDTony on Jun 29, 2010 11:30 AM EDT up reply actions

I’m not putting it down to anything more than an 18-year-old being nervous around so many microphones and cameras. With media training, he’ll come across as far more composed.

That's the one thing he has to work on if he wants to be a star

His assertiveness, but at the same time I can’t knock him for not caring about stats and stuff because that’s what I want from all my players.

by muwu on Jun 29, 2010 11:32 AM EDT up reply actions

what do you expect?

Honestly the kid is about to turn 19, hes a humble guy. He realizes he has the talent to be great but at the same time its like he says he needs to put in the hard work to acheive what is expected of him.

It would be stupid of him to come into NBA with a crapload of arrogance saying " im going to be the best PF in the league and im winning ROY" . Those are the guys that are usually destined to fail, most likely DeMarcus Cousins who is arrogant.

I loved Avery's enthusiasm

But also his honesty. He’s not afraid to publicly acknowledge his players’ shortcomings. It’s obvious he’s a teacher – a guy that can easily identify a weakness in a young kid’s game, and put everything possible in place to strengthen it. Derrick is in fantastic, albeit no doubt firm, hands with both Coach Johnson and Coach Mitchell.

I saw this whole conference as a sign that we’ll be sticking with both these kids moving forward. I damn hope so, anyway.

Avery's got charisma

And the truth is that he knows better than the rookies where they need to improve. Avery’s going to be great at the meeting with LeBron on Thursday; can’t wait for his and Proky’s 1-2 punch! But why no questions for Rod re his role with the team?

by Mookie Blaylock on Jun 29, 2010 11:53 AM EDT reply actions   1 recs

Why would the Nets do that?

That wouldn’t make any sense from a PR standpoint.

Hump, Yi, GS pick and $3M for Bosh...

Throw in another first round pick (or better 2 #2 picks) if absolutely necessary but make it happen!

by rundmc00 on Jun 29, 2010 12:02 PM EDT up reply actions

We don't need Bosh

Why we need Bosh? I don’t get it. Lee or someone like Scola is better while Favors waiting. Bosh breaks down very often to be a max guy.

by NDTony on Jun 29, 2010 12:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Bosh might be necessary to get LBJ...

Otherwise, I am happy saving the money or going after The Joker (thanks jerry).

by rundmc00 on Jun 29, 2010 12:21 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm no Bosh fan...

…but he is a very special player, truly elite. If a little fragile.

Not sure Toronto complies. The only thing of real value there is the GS pick and even that may only turn into 2 second rounders. Our own first round picks would not be valuable if we wind up with Lebron.

by Chris2 on Jun 29, 2010 12:06 PM EDT up reply actions

They might want Yi and Favors...I say no

We can do two separate trades to a team under the cap:

1) Hump + $3M plus #1 pick

2) Yi + $3M plus #1 pick

So for $1.3M the team would get two decent players with expiring contracts and 2 #1 picks. I think we’d have many takers if Proky was willing to spend the $$$.

by rundmc00 on Jun 29, 2010 12:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Not Addressed?

It’s already out there. They have already suffered a PR hit. Did the Nets say they wouldn’t answer any questions about Rod’s role? or Nobody asked that question?
