Nets Announce Summer League Roster
The Nets announced their roster for the AirTran Airways Pro Summer League on Monday. The roster includes draft picks Derrick Favors and Damion James, as well as Terrence Williams. Undrafted rookies include Tulsa's Ben Uzoh, Baylor's Tweety Carter, Tennessee's Wayne Chism and Duke big men Lance Thomas and Brian Zoubek, both Jersey guys. In addition to Williams, two players on the roster have NBA experience: Cezary Trybanski and Gabe Pruitt. The team also features three seven-footers.
The coaches listed on the roster may be just as interesting as the players. They are Popeye Jones, John Loyer, Doug Overton and former University of Georgia head coach, Dennis Felton. Dave D'Alessandro notes that they all "won’t necessarily be full-time staffers going forward."
The Nets will hold a four-day training camp in East Rutherford before traveling to Orlando for five days of games, which start next Monday. Full roster after the jump...

They must plan on making some cuts before going down there, right? That’s a huge roster.

You should know that all Summer League rosters are subject to change… like right up to the last minute.

Yes
But I don’t recall that many players being officially announced in the past.

Awesome squad!
Hey Nets management, great job with this one! Picked up Zoub (backup defensive center), Thomas (could be a great NBA defender) and Uzoh – def. excited to see if any of these players develop and stick around. Some of our depth issues can be fixed through these undrafted FA pickups. We really need to find the Wes Matthews of this class. The culture is slowly changing around here and we should all be excited!
But I think this has to be one of the best summer elague rosters nets have had lol. I think they’re serious about winning this year… Lol
It is
Lopez,CDR,and Anderson was goos as well, but the good thing is we can get backup center on the minimum maybe another peace as well, honestly seems the undrafted players may be better than some of the players that went in the second round.
AJ Abrams
I remember him from his Texas days….undersized, but i am definitely interested in seeing him as well as some of the other bigger name guys play.
He was supposed to play
last summer for the Nets/Sixers team, but got hurt. He can shoot.
Garrett SIler was interesting to a number of teams before the draft last year. He’s huge.
Demond Carter is “Tweety” Carter, Baylor’s point guard.
loved
The tweety carter and lacedarius dunn duo at baylor last year and I’m hoping tweety makes the team just because of his awesome name

Alexei Shvedov
He was not picked in the draft. Why don’t Proky bring him for Summer League? Just to see how he plays……
Is Favors going to be the youngest player in the NBA this season?
born 1991. Wow.

Favors is the first net younger than me…weird

" first net younger than me"
uh, they’ve NEVER had a player younger than me, if memory serves…
Dennis Felton
Who is Dennis Felton. How many coaches we are going to have with Doug and this Dennis guy adding to the coaching staff. I think now we’ve more coaches than players :)
Damn Chisms was rated an 87 on NBADRAFT.NET
I think he is the type of rugged skilled player we need of the bench, a guy kind of like Ryan Gomes.
I thought he was a sf
Hes pf..looks like Sean Williams. Very skinny athletic of.

Interested in mainly....
….how Zoubek looks, seeing if T-Will added some range to his shot, and how Favors/James looks.
I expect Terrence to be running point full time during these games.

Summer League
Nice to see the Nets taking all aspects of the organization more seriously this year; last summer was a joke with the Sixers’ team (was it last summer or the summer beforehand?)

That Favors guy should be pretty good
Really though, nice to see Abrahms on the list. Looks like him and James will be reunited.
Dayyyum
Listening to the Michael Kay show is like hearing someone scratch a chalk board. Funny people are really believing this Russian Spies story lol, saying the Nets are officially done in the Lebron chase, Proky is just a crazy Russian who doesn’t know what he’s doing, Next.

I really hate Michae Kay.
He is such an homer and doesnt want to admit it.
I prefer people like Evan Roberts. He lets you know who is rooting for and is still fair. Kay gets upset when you call him a yankee fan.
Michael Kay sucks
he doesn’t know a damned thing about hoops
Evan Roberts is the only one on WFAN that’s worth really listening to when talking hoops, at least he’s a Nets fan but he’s fairly objective. The rest of that station only knows about baseball and football, and they’re all knicks homers to boot.
Boomer and Carton had the nerve to talk about how Lebron should go to the Knicks and started going on and on about the virtues of the area…and they included several places in New Jersey, including Atlantic City. Didn’t bring the Nets up once.
They unwittingly made the case for why Lebron would be better off coming to the Nets. Access to the same locations, and you’ll be on a better team with ownership that is thinking world wide level stuff.

Haha I heard that too
And they were like “And we’ve got Brooklyn!”
what the heck is this Russian Spy stuff?
Seriously, what??? Where is this crap coming from
As if Lebron would give a damn if Russian spies were really working within the Nets organization. I don’t. Wow, such a threat to the country, Putin has spies planted within a BASKETBALL FRANCHISE. I’m surely this spells doom for the United States. Spare me.
All this crap is from a bunch of morons who have been raised to be a bunch of xenophobes and racists, who still have their minds stuck in the cold war, or think that anyone who looks different or speaks differently is evil. File this away with the crap about Coach K not wanting to coach the Nets because the owner is a sneaky, conniving Russian Commie Pig. Give me a break…

Exactly
Its funny theres an article Frank Isola wrote about Lebron being in New York with Jay-Z, on the Michael Kay show he notes that Lebron was in New York he loves it here, without mentioning who he was with. I guess Dolan and the Knicks marketing machine basically was like, give the Nets no love, seems like people are really trying to create a narrative of the crazy Russian is here with his goons be worried.
Tin foil hat time...
…I wouldn’t be shocked if certain folks’ palms were being greased with Cablevision money to put out slanderous stories or to spin things in favor of the Knicks, knowing damn well that their entire plan might be blowing up in their face.

NO 76ers?
Thank God, That was the worst idea, and the worst team ever. I like this team, We need a back up for Brook and someone who can shoot the rock consistently. Someones gonna stick. DON’T LEAVE US HANGING ROD,COME BACK!!!!!

It's always been free thru the Orlando Magic website
I believe that the Las Vegas league is the one you have to pay for
Why Zoubek undrafted?
What’s the deal with Zoubek? I recall DraftExpress had him drafted by Lakers in 1st round?
Nobody ever had him in the first and the Lakers didn’t have a first rounder.
That being said, Zoubek was very unproductive in college, although he did come up strong as was very important in Duke’s championship run. While it’d be shocking if hes ever starting quality, he could have a very high quality career off the bench as a top rebounder
@ 3ptChucker
I’m interested in Zoubek as well. Jersey guy who comes from a great program. If he shows himself useful in Summer League I say throw him on the roster. He’s a great rebounder and the Nets fail in that category every year.

this
We need a back up center that just has to come in, board, and defend.

Nice Choices
I really like the Rookies we brought in for the team. Abrams can shoot the lights out and maybe having him come in to play with James will help both these guys. Chism brings in experience considering it seemed like he was a 8 year senior at Tennessee cause he was around for so long. If we can get something out of the Duke guys it’ll be great. I mean, picking up a 7’1" Free Agent is great and I’m definetly happy the Nets get the first crack at trying out Zoubek for the NBA. And Tweety improved a lot this past year at Baylor. If we can get 1, 2, or even 3 players out of this, depending on how we do in Free Agency, I’ll be happy

I agree
One thing about Chism is that he doesn’t give up. Last season when most of Tennessee’s team was in trouble, Chism pretty much single handed kept the team winning by his gritty play and tenacity.
BTW, also like Dennis Felton. He was very successful at Western Kentucky, his addition might be a good thing for Courtney Lee.

roster
really looking forward to checking out Tweety, and Uzoh. I think that both have the talent to stick. Zoubek as well, imo we need fillers, fresh blood no retreads.
Orlando Summer League Games...HELP!?!?!?!??!
I wanted to go to Orlando, to watch these games, but they are closed to the public. I was going to book a nice hotel room, pack a bathing suit and beer, and my internet radio to listen to WFAN, and head from Delray to Orlando, three hours away for the five days.
Anybody have an ideas how I could get into see these games?
Paul from Delray Beach
They need a knowledgeable announcer and an interested color commentator
Can you do either?
You can't.
It sucks, but like you said, they’re closed to the public. They take place in a small practice gym with no real seating.
