Two Summer Leaguers Who Could Be Special

This is flying somewhat under the radar, but I really like two of the guys playing on the Nets summer squad.

Tweety Carter- I'd take this guy on my team any day. He didn't get drafted, most likely, because he's 5-10. He was one of the top 10 assist guys in the country, and played major, major minutes on a team that made a deep run in the NCAA tournament. He's got a very nice spot up 3 that he sat at a decent, consistent clip throughout college, and while he's a bit streaky, he knows his place on the floor. He has a great handle and court vision that I think will allow him to be successful in a backup capacity at the next level. I think he's got a shot at making the team, simply because I think Avery Johnson had a hand in the decision to bring him in. Both are high character Louisiana point guards who were overlooked.

Brian Zoubek- One of the most reviled Duke players of all time, by appearances, a huge white stiff who can't really do much with the basketball. But it's what Zoubek does otherwise that matters. At 7-1, he has legitimate NBA size and can set screens, defend the post, and board like nobody's business. Zoubek was the premiere offensive rebounder in this draft, and is a high character guy whose ability to draw offensive fouls and assorted bag of dirty tricks should allow him to be a better version of Kris Humphries at the next level, a hustle sub that plays hard. Unlike Hump, Zoubek doesn't kill you by taking bad shots and has the size to matchup with top bigs and challenge shots from time to time. He will be a hatchet man, and probably commit a lot of fouls, but there's a value in that kind of guy come playoff time. I think he has a legitimate shot at making the team.
