I am done with this team. Seriously. It will just show a complete lack of planning and indicate that letting Kiki go was a huge mistake. I don't want Johnson, not with the #3 pick. How many years have we been hearing that this team is in need of a physical power forward? And now they are going to bypass a young kid with all the potential in the world because Wes can play now and Avery wants no drama? Please. This has got me steaming mad. I don't want Boozer who will be 29 by the season starts. Adding Booz and Johnson doesn't make this team Champions, let alone a dynasty- I'm not sure it will be even good enough to make the playoffs next year.
The biggest problem I have is that I think Thorn is lousy at making draft picks. Excellent at trades but lousy at trades and worse in free agency. We had our best two drafts of the Thorn era when Kiki was around. If we choose Johnson it over Favors or even Cousins (who I am not a big fan of) it will only reinforce this perception. Why not choose Favors and then sign Gay? Better yet, why not choose Favors and two other draft picks and slowly rebuild? If you can't get a real star via free agency hold onto your money for another year. If you can't buy an elite free agent next year then you can at least add complimentary parts to an emerging core. But don't waste your cap space on an aging, injury prone, ball hog who hasn't won anything since college.
Maybe I am just nervous that of all the possible scenarios I have gone over in my mind the worst is playing out. I remain hopeful that all this talk is just a smokescreen to force the Timberwolves hand. If not, screw this team and the fools who run it. I can't believe they gave up on CDR today and to hear that a coach (especially one who has not coached one game yet for this team) would be dictating personnel moves makes me sick. That is what bad franchises do (see Charlotte and Larry Brown, Brook Lopez).
Ok, I will try to chill out now...
