Alot of people seem to be upset with the recent choice for head coach and a few others still don't understand why Favors would be a better fit for the Nets then Cousins. I don't know why anyone could possible be mad at that, but i think that people are not understanding the direction the Nets are headed in. I keep seeing these absurd "dream" line-ups and unwarranted bashing of pretty much everyone the Nets spotlight falls on. This mindset of "no one being good enough" is crazy.
Coaching
Coach Avery Johnson happens to have the highest winning percentage in NBA coaching history. No other first year coach has come close to this success. Everyone likes to refer to the playoffs when he was out coached by legends Pat Riley and Don Nelson. Don Nelson and Pat Riley can outcoach ANYONE. They are all time greats who have forever left there mark in the NBA. Avery was just a first year coach. I thnk it's safe to say he was simply a victim of circumstance and hopefully his tenure here with the Nets will prove that. Also, any coach how end ups coaching against his mentor NEVER comes out on top. Even to this day, Mike D'antoni can still outcoach the Alvin Gentry and if i'm not mistaken, he even swept the season series with them.
Draft Picks
Derrick Favors is the man to draft this year. I've been doing so much research on this draft (i almost feel like Rod Thorn) and I can tell you right now, Rod Thorn feels the exact same way i do. At this point in, Rod Thorn isn't looking for that mega front court talent because he already has it. Instead he is looking for a player who could compliment Lopez and make make working inside alot easier. And that also entails a finisher before a low post scorer. If only makes sense, when healthy, devin harris averaged seven assist. Even though he has more of a scorers mindset, Harris can still get the ball to finishers. Only he would need to finishers around him to do that. The only two players last year who could finish around the rim was lopez and williams, and often times we found turning Lopez into that kind of player took away from his game because he couldn't establish down low. Put a finisher at the four, thats where most of the attention turns. Plus favors is capable of hitting a decent mid range shot which streches the defense and allows Lopez to work inside. Drafting Cousins takes both of those options away. Cousins is a player in the mold of Lopez and is more of a center in then a powerforward anyway. Having two low post scorers crowds the paint, taking away the space for to operate in the low post. So drafting cousins pretty much assures that they won't be able to play together nor will either be productive.
Free Agency
There has been a whole lot of nonsense ever since Lebron James got the boot in the playoffs. Suddenly, out of no where, the Chicago Bulls emerge as front runners and completely eclipses the New Jersey Nets and the New York Knicks. Now everyone one is entitled to there opinion and since there are no definite facts or stats that can support any theory refering to free agency, it's safe to say anything goes. With that being said, i don't even think that covers or justifies some the stupidity i've heard. In this upcoming free agent summit, as much as people dont want to admit it, the only two teams everyone is looking at is the Knicks or Nets. Both teams have the best oppurtunity and both teams have the biggest market in basketball. From there it becomes and argument. right after them it's the Heat then after them is the Bulls. I don't even have to be in the room to know thats how the conversation will go. If Lebron leaves, he will end up either on the Nets or the Knicks. The two teams will ultimately end up getting into a bidding war for the best player on the planet. As for the rest of the free agents, who knows. But i'll leave you with this, my staring fives if we get Lebron and what it looks like if we dont get Lebron
With Lebron
Harris
Williams
James
Stoudimire
Lopez
Without Lebron
Harris
Johnson
WIlliams
Lee
Lopez
