Jeanie's More Loyal to Phil than Family

Sports Illustrated

Her father owns the team, her brother runs it, and her longtime boyfriend directs it, but Jeanie Buss' loyalty is with the coach.

In an email to the Post, Jeanie Buss writes that if Phil Jackson wants to leave the Lakers and head east, possibly to the Nets, she's cool with it. Her father, Jerry, wants Jax to take a huge pay cut.

"I don't know how things will work out," Buss wrote. "I am hoping the Lakers win and everything stays status quo, but the one thing I do know is that I am not going to stand in Phil's way if he wants to go to another team."

There had been speculation that an East Coast move would be a no-no for the couple.  Not so, says Buss. "I don't control him -- if I did I would have a ring on my finger, but I am not going to threaten to break up with him if he takes another job."  The Nets have denied rumors they're pursuing Jackson, but the man with 10 (non-wedding) rings has said he'd like to have a vodka with MIkhail Prokhorov.

I don't know.......

The winning games part of me says yes….but…his commitment and close relationship to the Lakers organization part of him says to me…Will his heart be in it ??

No worries on that front. If he takes the job, it’s only because his heart is in it. He doesn’t need the money and he doesn’t need to move.

The news here

is why does Phil’s girlfriend feel compelled to tell the New York Post she’s willing to move east if he’s not interested in the Nets job?

by Net Income on Jun 1, 2010 7:44 AM EDT reply actions

Could be to get Phil more money...

Could be because she is pissed at her dad and brother.

Could be she likes the spot light.

You were right that the Al article about 12 to 15M to Coach K is helping the Nets tremendously.

Hey Proky

make it happen!

And what is with any speculation (implied or othewise) that the Knicks MAY have a coaching vacancy? I’ve heard of no calls in the media for D’Antoni’s head. That would be major news, but I don’t see the Knicks as deciding all of a sudden that they’re gonna fire their head coach this summer, no matter how inept a defensive coach I think he is. Some NY writers are just plain irresponsible, IMO. It’s like they want to set Knick fans up for a disappointment.

They...

…are setting up Walsh and the Dolans for a major fan backlash.

But Knicks fans are such a braindead, unintelligent lot that they can only blame themselves for being disappointed….none of them are honestly looking at the situation in a realistic fashion…9 out of 10 Knick fans think that the Knicks can sign LBJ+Bosh to max contracts, and retain the rights to David Lee. None of them are concerned that they have no future outside of free agency since they traded away all of their picks.

I think This writer is a disgrace to Journalism for writing this the way he did.

The lady said nothing about the knicks! Nothing. If anything, she was talking about teh possibility of Phil coming to the Nets. I can’t believe his title read: Jeanie wouldn’t nix Phil move to Knicks." Crazy.

And so said the old man!

Point Proven

Proves even more why I hate knicks fans. They swear that they are at the center of the universe when it comes to stories about potential players and coaches.

this

at least most franchises with fans like that, have a reason to be arrogant. The Knicks have 0.

I wonder if Carl Everett believes Jamie Moyer exists.

Someone tell her to get back in the kitchen

if Phil can’t control his woman how can we expect him to control a group of young kids.

I’m just sayin.

I wonder if Carl Everett believes Jamie Moyer exists.

Women aren't objects to be controlled

Nor does Jeannie belong in the kitchen. She’s done way more for the Lakers than her brother and that’s part of why she’s upset at he father for handing things over to her brother

I'm joking

I wonder if Carl Everett believes Jamie Moyer exists.

Women should be seen, not heard. Phil needs to put her in her place.

pssst….come on, play along….

Being the chauvinist pig that I am.....

…I would have ’+1’d your post, but I also know that Phil is manipulative. In all seriousness, he’s probably using his woman and the rumors about the Nets to see if Dr. Buss will blink. That Lakers team is set for at least another 2 chances at the title, I doubt he’d want to leave there for here.

they have plenty of reason for arrogance...

…I would be arrogant too if i was clinging on to old memories of the 70s, or worse yet, memories of the late 80s-1990s Knicks that while having a lot of steam and memorable, physical teams….accomplished zilch
