Combine shooting drill results
http://www.nbadraft.net/nba-draft-combine-shooting-drill-results
Willie Warren is still a guy I like for the 27th. For the untimed drills, he shot 19-25 on college threes, 18-25 on nba threes, and 19-24 off the dribble. For the timed different sets of mid range jumpers, He shot 36-46. He was one of only 4 who shot higher than 75% overall, had the 2nd highest overall shooting percentage, and made the most shots out of everyone.
I mean, at that point, it's a bit of a crapshoot, and Warren has demonstrated the ability to be a top 10 pick talent. He's probably the most worthwhile pick because the reward you could reap is enormous. He could be a Ben Gordon guy for us, and would help since we need a lot of help with bench depth and especially shooting. At his very worst he's still a good shooter and we lack that element very much.
He measures 6'3.75" in shoes and has a 6'6" wingspan, so I think he'll be fine seeing minutes at the shooting guard spot as he's not incredibly undersized.

Terrico White
I read the Nets dont like Warren anyway.
Nah White is an just athletic player
He’s a point guard that’s not a good passer and a below average ball handler. He shies away from contact, takes bad shots, and doesn’t always play hard. He’s a good physical specimen, but doesn’t have the head to put the tools he has to good use.
He's a good shooter.
35% from 3 in 2 year of college, did great at the combine. We dont need him to be a PG. Twitt can play that role, Terrico just has to shoot and defend the PGs.
So he's pretty much a bench scorer at the pg position like Flip Murray
Warren has a ton more of upside to me. And while he has the size to defends PGs, he hardly shows the consistency or dedication on defense. Again, he’s got the body, but he doesn’t have the knowledge and feel and understanding on how to use them.
In the end, I think Warren has a chance to be a little more than a basic role player, and when you can get guys like that late, you’ve won. Drafting late isn’t about finding the passable role players, it’s about the guys who can be more than that.
Really I'd disagree
I’d think with a top 5 pick this year, and a decent chance at two lottery picks next year we should be looking for passable role players who can fill that role, cause this team needs pretty much everything at this point, since paying for them on the FA market likely isn’t going to be worth it. I agree that good teams drafting late should be looking for those high upside blue chippers but I think this team needs to get role players at the end of the draft.
That being said if a guy like Warren has a similar floor and a higher ceiling I don’t understand at all why we’d prefer the other one…probably cause Rod Thorn is making the choices =/.
And to the guy above does 35% really qualify as a good shooter (I have no idea what the average NCAA player shoots from 3)
I wonder if Carl Everett believes Jamie Moyer exists.
the warriors pick
is lottery protected

terrico white & dominique jones....
… also shot pretty well and have good athletic/measurement results.
Terrico White
I’ve called for the Nets to get this kid with the late 1st or early 2nd Rd picks prior. Loved his form on his shot from clips Ive seen. Great lift on his jumper. Consistant shooter across the board with the numbers posted.

Terrico White doesn’t always play like the point guard many project him as, but that doesn’t seem to be an issue considering he’s 6-3 ¾ [w/o shoes], with a 6-9 wingspan—more than adequate size for an NBA shooting guard.
White had a very good weekend here at the combine, looking smooth and polished in the drills and showing off a terrific shooting stroke. He’s a chiseled specimen as well. He has an absurdly low body fat percentage of 3.7%.

He sounds like a guy who sets the combine on fire
and gets overdrafted because of measurables
I wonder if Carl Everett believes Jamie Moyer exists.
His issue isn't his body, it's his head
He’s got the tools, does he know how to use them? He’s not in the first round for a reason

We're talking about a #27 or 31 pick people...
…not the 3rd. What else are we to use for such a low pick? Hunches?
Of course, we are gonna use measurables, but also look at his body of work @ Ole Miss and SEC. Which was good. The Nets have been starving for a shooter. I don’t see the problem with taking a shot at him over a Willie Warren, Quincy Poindexter, Stanley Robinson, Gani Lawal, etc.

Well warren is just as good or better as a shooter, especially from three
He’s not the athlete white is, but his skill level is quite higher

Knowing how to use your skills can mean the difference between being an nba player or not
Gerald Green was an excellent athlete and player, but wasn’t able to stick
Yes,
..but that can actually be said for anyone from John Wall to the last pick in the draft. Its also about how you develop the skills and get better against the world’s best competiton. Which Green never did.
Gerald Green never even had the body of work that Terrico White did on the NCAA level. He was just a raw, freakish athlete drafted out of HS.
Late round picks are a gamble. I think the Nets should take one with White instead of Warren. I don’t like what Im hearing about immaturity issues (which a young, rebuilding Nets team doesn’t need) and maybe playing alongside Blake Griffen made him look better than he is.
Its just my opinion.

Thats the thing
He’s got the body, he’s got the tools. So why does Willie Warren have higher upside? To go back to your prior point, i disagree completely. You dont hit home runs with those late picks. Certain people think there is not much talent with late picks and occasionally teams just get lucky finding a gem that turns into a superstar. This is very rare, much more often you get guys who are solid rotation guys, guys that actually play and get minutes and contribute. So its not either home run with a star or a bench scrub. Some of the better 2nd round talent lately have been 4 year guys from top schools that didn’t exactly have that star potential but are more then worthy role players.
What i like about Terrico is that he DOES have star potential but we (the NETS) dont need him to be one. We need him to be a role player, we have plenty of perimeter guys as it is, and i think he can definitely handle a role of a shooter/scorer off the bench, a role we need. Most of the criticisms i’ve heard deals with issue how he is not capable of being a leader/best player type guy, which is totally fine with me.
Warren has a higher skill level
White has a lot of things going for him, including his terrific physical tools and stellar mid-range game, but questions still linger regarding his lack of a defined position, poor production this season and nonchalant nature.
Whether he’s playing point guard or as a wing playing off the ball, as long as White is on the court he is thinking shot. He has great natural scoring instincts and as mentioned in our previous write up, his mid range game is one of his strongest assets – showing the ability to stop on a dime off the bounce or curling off a screen. The difference however from our last evaluation is that his field goal percentage has dipped to 43.3% (White was shooting close to 45% in the 1st half of the season) – leveling out to about the same percentage as a year ago. Part of the season for this drop is his shot selection – as he’s continued to take contested shots all season long and settle for tough floaters in the lane, part of the season his team struggled as badly as they did to close off the year.
Another skill that he is yet to fully incorporate into his game is that of getting to the foul line. He currently shoots 4.2 free throws per 40 pace adjusted, and with someone with his superb athletic ability and strong frame, he should be getting there more often.
After watching the 67 shots at the basket in the 23 games that we have at our disposal, it’s obvious that White has the ability to get in the paint, but he noticeably shies away from contact most of the time.
Another contributing factor to his lack of free throw attempts is White’s below average ball handling skills. He rarely alters his pace, isn’t fully capable of changing direction, and he’s not strong enough with the ball to handle it consistently against pressure right now. At times he appears tentative to go out and make plays, which has caused him to disappear in quite a few important games this season, one of the reasons his exceptionally talented team missed the NCAA tournament. On the positive side though is White’s improved free throw percentage, going from 62.8% last season to 70.1% this year.
His point guard skills as a whole however are less than impressive. He’s still only averaging 1.5 assists a game which ranks him as one of the worst passers in our database amongst starting guards. He simply was not looking to create shots for others this year, appearing far more concerned with going out and getting his own offense. He is only averaging 1.3 turnovers a game, which is impeccable for any guard, but a lot of that has to do with him shooting on most possessions and not even trying to attempt to create for others.
White’s fundamentals, feel for the game and understanding of how to maximize his physical tools in a half-court offense all need quite a bit of work.
On the defensive end, White has all the physical tools to be a very good defender, but has been inconsistent at this end. He goes through spurts of playing hard or using the defensive possession to relax. Closing out on shooters is an area he’s struggled with, but he’s certainly improved in containing the ball handler and stopping dribble penetration.

Both have the talent and the upside. Both have question-marks.
Warren is a lottery talent who blew his high draft position entering the season with poor play and an even worse attitude. Now he’s trying to prove to NBA teams that he’s changed his ways and could still be a lethal combo guard in the pros. Much like Stephenson, the questions will be answered off the court, not on it.
Character/attitude issues. Nets have poor success rate with those. Ehh, more like zero success rate actually.
White is one of the draft’s best athletes, and he’s loaded with skills. It’s all about putting those things together on the court. Does he have the motor and the desire to dominate every night? If he did, he’d be a lottery pick. Now the question is, will he bring it often enough to warrant a first-round pick?
To me, Whites questionmark is a total non-issue. Does he have the desire to dominate every night? I hope HE DOESN’T cause thats not what i want him to do at all. I want him to be that bench guy that dominates SOME nights, it sounds like he is more then capable of doing that.
Warren also suffered from mono during the season
And dominate how? He can’t dribble at different speeds or under pressure, is unwilling to pass and shies away from contact in the paint.
Good Post
But I like Jordan Crawford. Hit 20 of 25 from NBA 3-pt territory. Plus, if we get Bron, Crawford can dunk on him some more in practice. LOL
We need a shooter, preferably at the small forward spot.
