Waiting for Prokhorov
There's not much to be determined over the final seven days of the season. At this point, the Nets are just waiting for Mikhail Prokhorov to swoop in and make his mark on the franchise. Even with Mike Krzyzewski saying he's not interested, a new coach will be hired and new players will be drafted and signed. Speaking of the draft, four likely top-five picks, John Wall, Evan Turner, DeMarcus Cousins and Derrick Favors, have all officially declared themselves eligible.

Even if we don't get a top 2 pick
I’ll be very happy as long as we are able to get Cousins.
If we get the 4th pick, and all Wall, Turner and DC are gone, I’ll literally cry.
I dont mind Favors. I am not a hugeDeMarcus fan because he reminds of Eddy Curry, same skill (just huge and can put anthing close in) and with his attitude problems. Kid should stay in college one more year and straighten himself out… i think he’ll drop the 5 or 6.
3 or 4 is ok
Yea, I actually like the top 4 guys, each of them have an aspect I like. I just REALLY hope we get turner or wall..

If you watched DC as I did, you would see Cousins agility in stealing balls from guards and small forwards.
I was surprised this wasn’t made into a big deal, because at least 3 times I saw him with guard-like agility to take the ball off of their dribble.
The guy is both quick with his feet and hands. Like a taller (less fat) Big Baby, but with even better hands.
And he rebounds like Dennis Rodman, but can clear out more space with his Width.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Cousins becomes a more valuable NBA player than Wall.
wow that's pretty risky, better than Wall?
i actually dont know because will a guy like Cosuins excel without th best pg college has seen this decade?
yep. Look at all the Wins that Cousins has given KY, or else KY might not even have made the NCAA. They help each other.
Even Harris is better than Wall at this time.
And Turner is probably as good a point guard as Harris is right now.
Look at all the easy baskets Harris gets for Brook (at least during the 1st half).
He can do the same for Cousins.
Wall would have to grow into the position.
Jay Williams, who WAS the best PG in college, says Wall would have a lot to learn.
They have time to back out. I suspect the backup Center for KY will back out, but who cares.
Even if Favors declares, doesn’t mean he wouldn’t decline later.
Draft for talent, not for need
The Nets are awful, they can’t afford to make a decision based on who’s a better fit.
Anyways, Kerber said that they’ll draft for talent, and that they’ll take Cousins if they had the 3rd pick and felt he was the BPA, which he would be in that case.
Read Iannazzone’s article. He says that if we get a top 3 pick, one of Wall, Turner or Cousins would be a Net. That obviously means Cousins is ahead of Favors. Cousins is the best prospect not named Wall or Turner.
Do funny thing about all this speculation is...
We don’t even know yet who will be making the pick.
Thorn? Kiki? Yormark? Proky himself? One of his Moscow “boys”?
All of the above? None of the above?
Maybe our new coach makes the pick? If we have a new coach by then.
Thorn was physically there last year to make the pick and approving the decision on who to pick.
We didn’t hear of any disagreement between Kiki and Thorn about TWill.
Proky could make his NBA TV debut on May 18 to see if he has the LUCK he talks about.
Funny thing, is if Nets got the #1 pick, the media would just assume they would pick Wall over Turner.
What a shame how the media is.
I thought I read something about Kobe preferring Turner, but haven’t confirmed.
Everybody is sleeping on Favors a bit, I guarantee that once the workouts begin Favors is going to generate a buzz. I would be happy with Wall or Turner like the rest, but I am really intriqued by Favors. I have been following the draft for awhile and he is a legitimate big.
The other guy I really like is P. George with the second pick, which is where draftexpress has him sitting. I think he’s gonna move up too. I hope the nets move up to get him.
Yeah, workouts tend to shuffle the deck.
Do we draft a young PF with our #1 pick and develop him over the next year or two, or do we try to make the playoffs with Amare, Boozer, D. Lee?
I would love to have our “own” young team, if we can’t get LeBron, Wade or Bosh.
Those 2nd tier FA’s will cost to much and in a few years how good will they be?
Tough choices coming up, but it should be fun deciding.
I'm with you
I’m much more intrigued with the possibility of drafting our own big and developing him next to Brook then getting a 2nd tier that we will regret in the end. Whoever is the best defensive big man prospect, that’s who I want on our team.
Not saying I would choose Cousins/Favors over Wall/Turner but I would consider it. I’m glad I don’t have to be making these decisions. I would be happy with any of them though. Best scenario is to get a top wing prospect in Wall/Turner and somehow move up to get a defensive big. We need Defense, size, toughness and rebounding.
Speaking of Favors though, I was pretty impressed with his defense, especially because I saw him strip guards of the ball and come up with the steal in the lane several times in one game. That’s quickness.
Donatas Motiejunuas
7’1" Lithuanian, 19 years old, the second best player in the Nike Hoops Summit last year after Wall…and that game featured DeMarcus Cousins, Avery Bradley and Xavier Henry. He doesn’t have an NBA body yet, but he will be high lottery pick. Think Tony Kukoc.
PS Russians and Lithuanians in general don’t like each other.
Lithuanians usually know how to speak Russian though...
What is crazy is we don’t know who’s going to call the shots come draft and free agency time.
Maybe they draft Motiejunuas? I bet they draft that Russian PG Sheved with one of our other picks.
Proky might want to appease his countrymen and surrounding areas. Who knows?
Political aspirations ahead???
Maybe Mr. Prokhorov has his own agenda. “Mikhail the Great”, Czar of Russia?
Politics can make for some strange teammates. LOL
