Around SBN: Fighters React to Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

The gossip columnists at the Post are outraged and shocked that five Nets went out the night before their "big game" vs. Miami and actually downed tequilas with "a bevy of hot blondes" in the Florida Room of Miami Beach's Delano Hotel!

Devin Harris, Terrence Williams, Courtney Lee, Tony Battie and Bobby Simmons were all at the club "into the early hours" Wednesday. Also in the room: Terrell Owens. Uh-oh.

We are sure Mikhail Prokhorov would frown on such activity...or maybe ask to be invited along the next time.

I think this just proves that Courtney Lee is a man amongst boys on this team. Sure, Devin and TWill didn’t seem to have the stamina after all that partying, but Lee went out on played 51 minutes! That is a superhuman effort.

Either that or he didn’t have as much success with the ladies as the others did..

haha nice

When the big fella was whistled for his fourth personal foul midway through the third quarter, Stan Van Gundy left Clark Kent alone. And in a phone booth measuring 94 feet across, Dwight Howard used that vote of confidence to transform into his alter ego. - Chris Sheridan

The game was at 7:30

What? Should they shut it down 24 hours prior. If you stay in the hotel and watch a movie, fall asleep around 12:00am, wake up at 9:00am then you will be awake all day. If you stay out until 3:00 am and wake up right before practice then I contend that you will be fresher for the game. Good strategy boys.

It is indeed shocking!!

I find the Post’s obsession with black athletes (Tiger, Tiki, TWill) partying with BLONDES quite revealing of a certain attitude that should have tossed into the dustbin of history decades ago.

Poor T-Will they are leading him astray. It was probably Devin’s doing, he has to be a little uneasy about his staring position especially the way Terrence has been playing lately.

Brook just had a helpless look on his face, out there by himself (and with a sober but butterfingers Yi by his side).

by jerry25 on Apr 15, 2010 3:57 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m pretty sure Brook was the butterfingered one – what did he have, 3-4 turnovers in the first OT? Yi was the only guy who showed up.

I wish the other GMs would see it your way. I didn't.

Yi’s negative accomplishments don’t show up in stats. They would have to make a new subjective stat to cover all of Yi’s miscues.

Hey, I’m not saying Yi deserves to keep his starting spot and all next year, I’m just saying he did a good job last night. Brook didn’t in OT. If we’re only looking at that, there’s no way to see it any differently.

Lets just hope he is gone on draft night, so we don't have to go through this Yi talk anymore.

It will be up to Thorn to package a deal with Yi. He will only do it if Proky is in control.
At least Kiki’s Experiment is over.
The next coach will determine the fate of Yi, if by some chance he is still on the team in the Fall.

if it is intelligent and not all hating…

If you say Yi is that bad, how can we trade him then without getting fleeced? Instead of just saying trade, trade, trade Yi please suggest a player we can trade for Yi or else it’s just mindless complaining…

by jirohkanzaki on Apr 15, 2010 9:53 PM EDT up reply actions

That's Rod's job

As long as he saves about 1 million in cap space and gets an expiring or good contract back.

I of course would like to have Ryan Anderson back, and maybe Orlando could use Yi for select times.
Rod would have to make it work with salaries and might have to throw in a draft pick.

Both China and Stern would approve of Yi playing in Orlando, even if for limited minutes.

by jerry25 on Apr 15, 2010 11:54 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm fine with Yi coming off of the bench

If we can’t make a deal for him, let his contract expire that space will come in handy in the 2011 offseason.

But I think depending on our pick, we need to try and package Devin, Yi, and the 27th pick for something substantial.

The NY Post just wants discourage the BIG Free Agents ...

…even more about signing with the NETS. The Knicks and all it’s cahoots are in full throttle to blast the NETS out of the race this summer !!!!!!

So what if some of the Nets spend some time relaxing from all the stress this season?! The game was at 7:30pm, so they still had plenty of time to get some rest.

FU Knicks!!!!!

Devin Harris should be practicing his jump shot

Devin has pissed away his entire season, trade this cocky “Point guard”, regardless of whether we get John Wall. Courtney and T-will are nice pieces but I don’t see any reason to keep Harris.

by mytoemytoe on Apr 15, 2010 5:07 PM EDT reply actions

how bout we trade Yi and Harris for Kevin Martin
Houston would love to have a tandem of Yi and Yao

Devin Harris could run the point with Brooks (small lineup, but fast)

and nets gets rid of a Yi and we get a well needed shooter in return

by Jeffrey Sutton on Apr 15, 2010 5:34 PM EDT up reply actions

this is retarded

everyone loves to bash devin about this and that but we tend to forget half the season he was hurt and by things that were freak incidents he strains a groin tendonitis in his wrist and through all of it once he was finally healthy he played his butt off and showed that he is still the same player from last year. Now if the Nets had a consistant shooter to keep the defense honest then it would have opened up the lanes for him in turn boosting his scoring and assist average. Devin is a tremendous player and getting rid of him would do NOTHING but push us back in a quicker rebuilding process. Are we really going to give the keys to the team to a 19 year old pg (Wall) to come in and automatically put us in playoffs? NO. He is 10x worst as a defender as harris and in the NBA that means opposing pg will be going for 30 – 40 against us think of wall trying to guard Rose, Billups, D. Williams, Rondo, Kidd, Westbrook. Point is he will get eating alive night in and night out if you give him starting job right away. Mock my words he WILL NEED time to DEVELOP in the NBA. So no matter what we need to keep Devin and beside his contract is very modest for an all star pg in this league.

by dhrep6 on Apr 15, 2010 5:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Devin Harris already gets eaten up by those guys you just named. I have no problem with Harris staying, but he’s just not a true point guard who doesn’t get his teammates involved in the game. If we do end up selecting Wall, I don’t see both of them working well together when we have Brook clogging the lanes, and with Wall and Harris 3 point range being sub-par. We are in dire need of a shooter to spread the floor, maybe Courtney Lee will progress and be that knock down jumper, but until then we must do something this offseason. The Nets did win ONLY 12 games this season. Anything goes, I say this offseason.

by Jeffrey Sutton on Apr 15, 2010 5:56 PM EDT up reply actions

hmmm...

How can we sit here and bash Wall’s defense while Devin Harris has been getting torched so badly by opposing PGs this season that they had to start using Lee to defend the other team’s PG?

The energy Harris spent hurling himself into the stands going after loose balls that were already out of bounds before he decided to land on some well to do spectactor’s lap could have been used for bending his knees, moving his feet, and fighting around picks

"No one stands on the top of the world. Not you, not me, not even gods. But the unbearable vacancy of the throne in the sky is over. From now on...I will be sitting on it."

by MrDollarBills on Apr 15, 2010 6:00 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree with you 100%

If any of you have the opportunity to pause and rewind the games like I do, you can really tell who’s playing defense and who isn’t. Devin Harris defense has been bad the whole year, and please don’t use his injuries as an excuse. He doesn’t put any effort into defending and has a tendency to ignore the person that he is suppose to defend.

Unlike Yi, who is just a bad defender, easily letting the person run past him.

by LetsGoNets on Apr 15, 2010 7:05 PM EDT up reply actions

He’s not an all star in this league.. he is only an above average player according to his stats. He hasn’t worked hard enough to get better

by mytoemytoe on Apr 15, 2010 6:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Not true about schecking his stats

There are only 9 players in the entire league that avg more assits and of those players only 2 of the point guards avg more points. His defense is lacking but so is Steve Nashes. Who do you think the Nets could get that is a better point guard than Devin? There are some but they have weaknesses too.

Unacceptable

They should all be suspended for the rest of the season. …Oh…it is? Nevermind.

by MikeTodd09 on Apr 15, 2010 5:26 PM EDT reply actions

Not quite as appalling

As when Kenyon Martin was believed to be out partying the night before Game 6 of the 2003 NBA FInals with one of the opponents – Stephen Jackson. We all know how that turned out and then the guy had the audacity to ask for a max contract a year after one of the most pitiful performances in Nets history during the most important game they ever played.

The Nets didn’t show up for about 75 percent of the games this season why starting taking it seriously for game # 82?

by IsaacNJN on Apr 15, 2010 5:52 PM EDT reply actions

It was the last game of a long, dreadful season that all of them wanted to put behind them. Who gives a damn if they showed up, there was nothing to play for. Most of them were probably thinking about what island they’ll be visiting next week

Except Brook, who has to get ready for the world championships(if im not mistaken)

The only real problem I have with this is...

…If I’m Brook Lopez, unaware, coming to the last game trying to get somehow hyped and prepped, and then I realise these guys were partying out all night and are hung over, I would be pissed, and I would wonder before other games if my team mates are gonna show up or a bunch of hungover sods.

Being a musician, I played a show once, and after the show I learned my drummer and bassist had smoked beforehand. I was pissed because it felt like they weren’t taking what we, as a group were doing. Also, I was pissed because I got left out.

I hope this won’t have any repucussions going into next season…between the players…
