The Dream Sequence of Events

Basically every Nets fan dreams of getting John Wall, followed by Prokhorov getting Coach Kryzewski to coach the Nets. Hiring Coach K would obviously facilitate attracting a max contract, especially with the connections from Team USA. But I have my doubts about him wanting to leave Duke. Assuming he doesn’t come, I love the idea of signing David Lee or Boozer, preferably Lee, this summer. That should leave just enough room for a max contract, and we could pursue ’Melo in 2011, when basically every team has filled up their cap space. It may be tough for him to leave Denver, but the Nets can definitely put up an impressive season with something like Wall-Harris-T.Will-Lee-Lopez next season to draw Anthony the following offseason.

Correction

I mean Wall-Lee-T.Will-Lee-Lopez, and we could have Harris as a sixth man if we don’t deal him.

More like a Nightmare

Coach K, Lee and Boozer are all poor choices that would set the franchise back. There is no evidence that Coach K would be able to manage NBA egos for an entire NBA season. Yes he was coach of the Olympic team, but that squad was so stacked and motivated that even Kiki couldn’t have kept them from a Gold.

Lee and Boozer are both going to be extremely expensive and neither are worth it. They are both horrible defenders and there is no evidence that Lee will be successful playing as a PF.

Plus Boozer is kind of old

why would we invest the type of money he’s going to be asking for in a player that’s likely on the downside of his career and will be getting worse as the rest of the team gets better?

A Power Forward is

our second priority after signing a coach. We have enough depth at the guard position and there are plenty of great options for us at power forward. Here is my wish list:

Boozer (Great fit along side Brook, maybe the best rebounder and post defender of the group)
Lee (Young, great talent that still has room for improvement)
Staudemire (best offensive talent but has alot of ?s)
Bosh (best all around player of the group but has said he would not play here)

How much money each of these players are asking is also key. Bosh is the only guy who will get a max contract. How much do you think the rest of these guys will be asking?

by mikeslovak on Mar 7, 2010 7:20 AM EST reply actions

Not one of them is even an average defender

All four of those guys are bad defenders. Boozer is definitely not the best post defender of the group. None of them are gritty players that will help Brook on defense and all of them are looking for huge contracts.

F/A Facts

Don’t worry yourself about F/A
It is not the answer for the Nets.
F/A Facts:
4 out of the top 40 scorers have won NBA Championships.
6 out of the top 40 rebounders have won NBA Championships.
5 out of the top 40 assists men have won NBA Championships.
What Iam saying stay with the draft and get your young talent to ad to the guys we have now.
Championships are won by teams not F/A whom change for the money along being Me players.
Ask yourself.
For seven years L.Bron has not had F/A come to play with him.
For the 11 odd years Garnett jhad the same thing happen to him.
Stay with the draft and we will win within the in house concept championships.

Even next year, I think any combination of Devin Harris, Courtney Lee, a top four pick, David Lee, and Brook Lopez has a chance to be a 7th or 8th seed team. With the top four pick guaranteed and pretty much a guarantee of at least taking on a fairly big contract like David Lee or Rudy Gay, there really is no chance we won’t at least contend for a playoff spot next season. The question is do we make an enormous splash and find ourselves contending for a top five seed (or maybe even an advancement into the second or third round of the playoffs)?

Probably a greater likelihood that we find ourselves switching places from seeds 7 through 9 for a majority of next season.

by giacomo on Mar 7, 2010 1:50 PM EST reply actions

Where are all of the lock down defenders Nets fans keep dreaming of?

All I keep reading about is that so and so doesn’t play any defense. Who does in the NBA? Name me a free agent power forward who currently lives up to the defensive standards of a highly critical Nets fan.

by mikeslovak on Mar 9, 2010 7:15 AM EST reply actions

I don't think we want a lock down defender

just more of a defensive presence than the power forwards up are going to be FA’s who are all offense first guys. There’s a wide spectrum between offense first and lock down defender, these guys all just lie closer to the extreme offense first side. Where as we need someone closer to the middle or the defensive side.

by Gina on Mar 11, 2010 12:20 PM EST up reply actions

Joe Johnson, Carlos Boozer and JJ Reddick. I think Reddick would trive in NJ being the main guard off the bench. The guy can really score.

by Christos on Mar 10, 2010 7:30 AM EST reply actions

Post Defense or Bust

A strong defensive power foward, plus maturity and 2010 draft picks makes Nets a playoff contender.
Haslem would be a great fit, if Nets don’t draft PF with their 1st pick in the draft. Boozer’s injury history combined with limited mobility scares me. If Nets draft Wall, they would need to add a scorer at another position.
Would Bosh be the right fit for this team? Not the ideal post defender, but can contest shots and defend perimeter. Probably would need to add a stronger Small Forward at some point (yes, Lebron would be nice).
