The worst day in the history of Nets basketball.

@Newark Nets
I thought that was when the team drafted Yinka Dare in the first round.
by Anthony on Mar 3, 2010 10:51 AM EST reply actions
It’s highly competitive, that “worst day in the history of Nets basketball”.
by Net Income on Mar 3, 2010 10:52 AM EST reply actions
Agreed, N.I.
I’d have thought just about every day since October 31st could well be nominated for that prestigious award.

“The worst day in the history of Nets basketball.”
After Drazen Petrovic’s tragic death and losing Game 6 of the 2003 NBA Finals to the Spurs, yes this will certainly rank in the top 3 of worst days in the history of this franchise.
No one should be celebrating except the pigs responsible for this travesty – specifically Ratner and his cronie Yormark.

Please? Im all for brooklyn…but couldnt they come up with a better looking arena?

You do realize you are taking a shot at a guy that passed away in his early 30s when you single out Yinka Dare amongst a sea of failed draft picks in this team’s history. People make it sound like he was taken # 1 ahead of Michael Jordan or something. Who was going to be the difference maker we missed out on that year at # 14 – Aaron McKie? Wesley Person? Get over it.
by Isaac on Mar 3, 2010 11:01 AM EST reply actions
They could have if Goldstein didn’t delay… (Awaits response from Isaac)
by theBurgerKing on Mar 3, 2010 11:01 AM EST reply actions
Hey I am a Temple man and Aaron McKie was a sixth man of the year and helped the Sixers reach the finals. So yes I think he would have been a much better pick.
by theBurgerKing on Mar 3, 2010 11:03 AM EST reply actions
@Isaac
Maybe you can call up your close personal friend Scottie Pippen and see what he has to say about all this.
by Anthony on Mar 3, 2010 11:08 AM EST reply actions
Please… McKie, Piatkowski, Person, Lenard, Eisley, and even freakin’ Rebrača were better picks.

Nets are on Yahoo front page.
Idiots posted a photo of the arena when we were hit with snow storm with about 1000 spectators.

I agree that the prudential center looks better than the pic of barclays. I wish the saga with ratner vs dddb could continue, it’s been the only entertaining thing this season.

I still think it will be nothing but a photo-op, though Oder will probably give us the full story by then to see what’s really going on.

at Anthony:
never claimed to be close personal friends with Scottie Pippen but as I did state, I can assure you I know him better than you.
As for the players listed as better picks than Yinka – yes I agree they are – what I said was this wasn’t the oh-my-lord what a disaster pick people make it out to be. When you have a stud defensive center coming out of college with a great NBA-ready build and the # 14 pick – you take him. My other point was the man lost his life at age 31 – it’s not necessary for people to still be taking shots at him. This wasn’t Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan or Michael Olowokandi or Kwame brown as the # 1 OVERALL pick.

Hmmm. If the team is away that day, they should get some ex-players to join in the groundbreaking ceremonies. How about Michael Ray Richardson, Jayson Williams and Stephon Marbury?
by Al on Mar 3, 2010 12:46 PM EST reply actions
@al
Ha ha..I think the Nets will leave those memories in swamps of Jersey.
How about Dr. J, Billy Paultz and Larry Kenon? I also think it would be appropriate to have someone from the O’Malley family in attendance along with a long overdue apology from the family of Robert Moses.
by Tin Man on Mar 3, 2010 12:52 PM EST reply actions
@Al
Richardson, Williams and Marbury? You’re lobbing a softball at critics who will have a field day with jokes about that. I can see it now….“Jayson Williams will accidentally kill Yormark and Ratner with the shovel and the whole thing will be cancelled”…..“Marbury will then get in the hole dug by the shovels with a Net intern and have sex with her”…yada, yada, yada. Wait, I shouldn’t be giving anyone any ideas.
Also, I keep hearing that Daniel Goldstein plans on living at his home well into the summer. Is that true and if so, how can they break ground with a building still sitting on Pacific Avenue? Or is this just a stupid ceremony and nothing else?

Don’t worry Billy there will be plenty of free tickets when this pathetic joke of an organization is forced to start handing them out to put people in Newark since they will be there on a LAME DUCK basis.
And you will have absolutely no problem fighting off those hordes of Brooklynites that have been counting down the days for the last 6 years to have the Nets move there.
This organization is a complete disgrace – enjoy it. bandwaggoners.
by Isaac on Mar 3, 2010 4:01 PM EST reply actions
Well Issac I’m glad that you finally got out your mind that the nets aren’t coming to Brooklyn. The Nets ticket will be a hot ticket guarantee. One thing that you don’t understand is that the people of Brooklyn Support anything that has to do with Brooklyn. Brooklyn Nets!!!!!!

Please jersey fans, I’m sure ur the same people rooting for the jets and giants. U don’t see us not rooting for our football teams just cause they are in jersey. Get over it!!! The move to brooklyn is a very big step in the right direction for this organization. Stop crying. If ur a real fan regardless u will go see u team even if its in brooklyn. If not then ur no real fan. I’m from queenz and I come to jersey 10 times a year and I been doing this for the last 18 years. So pleaseee

Having 500 people a night at a game in jersey is not good enough for a team to ream in jersey. U guys didn’t show up to games and now ur crying that they are moving? Come on. This is a joke. And honestly if ur complaining then goldstein or whatever this bums name is most be paying u guys to bitch in this site. So leave and don’t come back..

“One thing that you don’t understand is that the people of Brooklyn Support anything that has to do with Brooklyn.”
One thing you don’t seem to understand is that I lived in Brooklyn for over 20 years of my life including a few years within walking distance of this ridiculous project.
I can tell you from being there, there were more Develop Don’t Destroy Brooklyn signs in windows of homes near my place then there were any Nets merchandise. When I grew up in Brooklyn, I was one of only 3 or 4 Nets fans I knew and I met quite a few sports fans over the years there!
It’s Knicks country – always has been, always will be. Those supporting this move are condoing stealing the team from New Jersey and its fans.
These are all facts.

Are they going to do anything special for the last game at IZOD? Sure it’s a dump, but it’s been our dump for a long time… and we have had good times there. I hope they do something.

How bout change the teams name to Nj/Ny nets?? Just like with the soccer temas that were here in the 90s
by Hex on Mar 3, 2010 5:12 PM EST reply actions
@Isaac
Other than you living there for 20 years and the likelihood that there are more DDDB signs than Nets merchandise in windows—which means little by the way, the rest of what you wrote is your opinion and is not substantiated. You cannot claim that Brooklyn will always be Knick territory unless you have become Netsradamus.
Besides, the Nets investors NEVER believed they could supersede the Knicks in New York, noting that the Mets have never superseded the Yankees. But they argued that the Mets draw very well and are the second or third most valuable franchise in major league baseball. These are businesses, you know.
by Net Income on Mar 3, 2010 5:13 PM EST reply actions
@Hex
How long did that NY/NJ thing last? Didn’t work. The Red Bulls are now the New York Red Bulls even though they will be playing in a new arena in Harrison, NJ, starting March 20.
I prefer either the New York Nets of Newark or the New York Nets of Anaheim.
by Net Income on Mar 3, 2010 5:16 PM EST reply actions
Well it didn’t last because socccer isn’t a popular sport in this country. I just think by disassociating Nj from the team name will alienate the majority of Net fans. The majority of Nets fans are from Nj not Ny
by Hex on Mar 3, 2010 5:21 PM EST reply actions
They will draw well in Newark if they get Wall and 2 good free agents. And if the Nets heavily market the team and the great arena known as The Rock.
They also need to start getting fans from NYC to games, an incentive like get full or half seasons the next 2 years in Newark and you will get a real good rate for seasons in Brooklyn. If they don’t promote or get good players they will really be lame duck which would set the franchise back.
by Newark Nets (Formerly Jersey Pride) on Mar 3, 2010 5:23 PM EST reply actions
@Hex
The Nets believe, at least did believe in the last marketing survey I saw, that they would retain the loyalty of one-third of their New Jersey fans after they move to Brooklyn. That survey was several years ago and I am sure that’s no longer true…for a lot of reasons.
But remember, there are already Nets fans who live in New York as this thread shows. The guy I share season tickets with lives in Queens…used to live in New Jersey.
If the Nets get John Wall or Evan Turner and a free agent on the level of Rudy Gay, they will be improved. Newark attendance is likely to be low initially but that location is convenient. I can get there in 18 minutes. Manhattanites about the same.
by Net Income on Mar 3, 2010 5:28 PM EST reply actions
I live in Manhattan and there are many closet Nets fans. As busy adults, we will go to the games if the team is doing well…especially if the Knicks suck.
by David on Mar 3, 2010 5:42 PM EST reply actions
Issac is just like Goldstein, just keep on complaining and putting this thing down until it happens when he’ll probably buy opening night tickets at Barclays Center.
Brooklyn Nets is down the line to the 2012-13 Season or 2013-14 Season. I expect LeBron James to sign a 3-year deal with the Cavaliers (Actually a 6 year deal with player options after the 3rd year.)
Then he’ll consider going to Brooklyn. No way does LeBron James go and play for the NEW JERSEY Nets, but the BROOKLYN Nets, yes I do think he would jump ship.

I still don’t understand why the developers a trying to move nets from NJ to brooklyn. I mean to be honest it would have made more since to move dodgers back and the move to mets to LA. Then they would have shut up the protestors and things would have gone smoother.
