Vandeweghe Out, Loyer To Coach

Kiki Vandeweghe missed practice Sunday and shootaround Monday morning for personal reasons related to a family illness. He won't be on the bench Monday night when the Nets play the Heat. Instead, John Loyer will be the Nets' fourth different coach this season. Keyon Dooling is out with flu-like symptoms.

This is the best news I’ve heard all day! I mean don’t get me wrong I hope his “personal reason” isn’t too serious and that everything is okay but damn do I hate this man as a coach.

Looks like someone was pleased with Kiki-less practice today.

CDR tweeted:

HELLUVA shoot-a-round today. John Loyer will be a great head Coach one day. Seriously.

Kiki and CDR Feud

It’s obvious that KIki and CDR clash and it shows on the floor. Kiki loves Yi and doesnt like CDR for whatever reason. Maybe he likes YI’s attitude but to me its what you do on the floor that counts the most.

by NetsBall4Real on Mar 22, 2010 1:31 PM EDT up reply actions

CDR not wise?

I dont think you can teach maturity, mother nature does that. But cant this guy stop blazing away and shooting himself in the foot. it’s not like joe blow tweeting. CDR’s a celeb, and especially anything idiotic or controvesial or sarcastic he might say can become front page news.

by PigDaddy3 on Mar 22, 2010 2:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe it was just a compliment to Loyer

Maybe I’m just a glass half full kind of guy, but his tweet might not have been about Kiki. Personally, I love Loyer’s energy and enthusiasm during the games. Maybe CDR was simply complimenting the guy. He seems like a dedicated, hard-working coach.

by GeoffreySchmits on Mar 22, 2010 5:30 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't care if he's right

This kind of BS is why CDR has got to grow up by next season or be send to the D League or just cut if necessary.

by NetsJetsFan on Mar 22, 2010 9:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Come on

I agree w/ Geoffrey. CDR was just being kind Loyer. You people want to take anything to hate on the kid. Please.

Maybe Kiki is out for good!

Who knows what has been going on behind the scenes. With the rumors flying of some high level exec having no more patience for the Yi experiment, maybe tempers have flared and harsh words have been exchanged! I can hope, can’t I?

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then.

by John at the Jersey Shore on Mar 22, 2010 1:43 PM EDT reply actions

I wonder if that high level exec is Rod Thorn

Dave D. was very good to inform us of this.
Julian Garcia didn’t post the quote, but basically questioned Kiki for playing Yi for 38 min. on his first day back from injury.

I actually doubt Thorn would fire Kiki at this point unless he had blessing via Proky’s associates.

by jerry25 on Mar 22, 2010 1:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Wouldn't that be something if Loyer played CDR and Hump significant minutes and Nets pulled out win?

I could really see all the Nets putting out 110% to show up Kiki, if given a chance.

Sounds however, that whether Kiki can make it has more to do with flight times.
Hope his plane is late.

by jerry25 on Mar 22, 2010 1:51 PM EDT reply actions

I would keep Kiki and fire Thorn.

Kiki has suffered the most this season thanks to Thorn, and somehow Thorn gets a free pass, while Kiki gets tarred and feathered and run out of town. No wonder this franchise is flirting with the worst record ever in professional sports.

Keep Kiki as G.M. and fire Thorn.

by M I K E on Mar 22, 2010 1:55 PM EDT reply actions

Won't happen. Only Rod's high salary would be a factor, but Proky needs someone like Thorn for now.

Kiki hasn’t even met with Proky. Proky can see the results himself of what Kiki is doing with the lineup.

Soooo....

He’s been absent from coaching all season, this just means he won’t PHYSICALLY be there.

Where is Shawn Carter?

this is YOUR night!

What a bunch of cheap shots...

Kiki was never a coach, never said he was a coach, didn’t want to be the coach and now he’s being shafted for his coaching acumen. I heard of chutzpah but this takes the bakery.

Thorn and Yormark and all the fans kicking Kiki, deserve each other and this current Nets team.

by M I K E on Mar 22, 2010 2:27 PM EDT reply actions

Kiki wanted Frank fired so he deserves what he deserves

Kiki should have let Frank coach out the season, we would not be in this debacle if he did, then he supposedly went behind thorns back with Harris. Kiki needs to go, I don’t think most of the players like him,Thorn, or Proky.

by Atronic on Mar 22, 2010 2:43 PM EDT up reply actions

LC

I’m with you, Mike. Thorn and Yormark installed an incompetent coach and should be held accountable for this poor decision. And celebrating when the wife and mother of NBA greats is seriously ill? Sickening.

by jabez on Mar 23, 2010 11:46 AM EDT up reply actions

Enough of blaming Yi...

The Nets own “deep throat”, is now blaming Yi for their horrible season. What a joke.

If this is coming from that sleaze bucket Yormark, I could understand, but If it’s coming from Thorn, I would be very disappointed but not surprised. Thorn has shown his true colors this season, yellow being the primary color.

by M I K E on Mar 22, 2010 2:33 PM EDT reply actions

J.Loyer Yes!

Don’t be surprise if J.Boone and or K.Humphries starts for Yi Jianlian.
Also maybe even C.D.Roberts starts at SG.
Yi and C.Lee with the second unit will give us steady scoring in a ten man rotation along with giving us better chance to win three more games.
Kiki get better however, take the rest of the year off for the sake of the team.

by Dziedzic on Mar 22, 2010 2:54 PM EDT reply actions

When u watch the games u can tell J.Loyer is a coach

He is usually the wont expressing emotion and yelling at the players….

Kiki on the other just gets up and unemotionally just claps to fire up the squad.

D.Cousins Fault

WHY?
Because we a year away from getting him.

by Dziedzic on Mar 22, 2010 4:57 PM EDT reply actions

So because of that it's his fault?

I think it'll be extremely

interesting to observe how the team is run under Loyer. I am convinced Kiki has all but stopped caring. If anyone saw the way he walked off the court Saturday, with a hohum face like “no biggie”. I’m interested to see if Loyer’s sub patterns, time out, and most importantly, play calling pay dividends and make for a more exciting, and even winnable game.

Wall or Turner?

Screw Cousins if we dont get Wall or Turner ima jump out a window

by SPiDER MAN on Mar 22, 2010 5:45 PM EDT reply actions

Rebounding?

then aside from B.lopez whom do you expect to rebound the ball?
Is your answer Yi, Josh?
Think Big this year and not small.
Sometimes you have to pass on certain talent for obivious needs.

by Dziedzic on Mar 23, 2010 2:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Can't wait to see a coach yell for once, not look like an Art teacher sheesh

They should just keep it this way until the end of the year, let Dooling be the assistant lol.
Seriously if the players play harder than usual it will be interesting to see what happens next.

Good bye kiki and go to hell

by 1milord on Mar 22, 2010 6:20 PM EDT reply actions

KikYi

It will be interesting to see how much game time Yi gets under Loyer and what is the substitution pattern. Hopefully, Loyer is not going to suck it up to Kiki by using his “model”.
