Harris Will Try to Play, Dooling Wants to Stay

Still bothered by an upper respiratory infection, Devin Harris skipped shootaround Tuesday morning. But he'll try to play Tuesday night against the Hawks. Meanwhile, Atlanta rookie Jeff Teague will get his first career start at point guard, with Mike Bibby moving to the two in place of the injured Joe Johnson. The Hawks have lost their last five games at the Izod Center.

Meanwhile, Keyon Dooling says he wants to be back in New Jersey next season. He's under contract for $3.6 million, but the Nets have the option to buy him out for $500,000 before June 30. "If it was my option, I'd put it in right now and sign up," Dooling said.

Key!

I love Keyon, ever since he came here. The great thing is, he said he wanted to stay a Net before this whole travesty, so its not just about knowing that good things are coming. I welcome him back with open arms.

dooling

a shot of energy off the bench. a great team leader. fundamentally sound. Although he’s not a star, he’s a solid backup PG and a vital piece to his team’s future success. Thank God he wants to stay!!

Only one problem, Nets are not going to pay 3.6 million.

I think Dooling is a great back-up and team leader, but I doubt the Nets pay him all that money.
If he signs it will be for less money.

The good ole days...

Back up and marginal players will probably feel the economic crunch the most.

Owners will not be throwing around crazy money anymore.

Those days are going, going, gone.

3.6 million isn’t a lot of money, especially for a quality player like Keyon.

by LetsGoNets on Mar 16, 2010 3:37 PM EDT up reply actions

It is if the cap falls under 50 million,

That’s a pretty significant amount of money tied up in a 3rd string point guard. Though it will probably also depend on their plans for Devin, if they plan on playing him more at the 2 and T-will at pg then obviously Dooling moves up.

That's true...

It all depends on what our pick is. If we get the 1st and decides to draft Wall, then the next question is what are we going to do with Devin. I personally don’t think Devin and Wall can work out in the Long Run… It will end up being like RJ/Vince.

We are better off drafting Turner if we are going to keep Devin, but according to everyone… Wall is too good to be pass on by.

It makes sense to keep Keyon since he knows he will be coming off the bench, and he doesn’t have as much of an ego as Devin Harris. I highly doubt Devin would like to come off the bench to lead the 2nd unit. It will also be dumb for us to have Wall come off the bench, since he is the #1 pick. I see both of them are very similar, in terms of playing style. Not Identical, but similar.

Keyon makes about 3.6 million for him to come off the bench, which I think is a great price. Considering Yi makes more than that, and Humphries is making like around 3 mil. If our new owner really is willing to spend, it shouldn’t matter whether the cap fall under 50 mil or not.

Devin makes about 9 mil next year, and there’s no way he would agree to come off the bench. So in my opinion, it’s either we draft Wall and Trade Devin, or draft Turner and keep Devin.

heres my ideal situation:
Draft Wall/Turner
Sign D. Lee
Lure in LBJ with a new owner, money, young talnet, and the aquisition of David Lee
trade Devin Harris for outstanding bench pieces, young talent, or a pure 2 guard
show keyon Dooling were championship calibar and sign him for less mula

PG- Wall or Turner
SG- Lee/ trade aquistion
SF-Lebron
PF- david Lee
C- Brook

Bench:
PG-Dooling
SG- CDR or Da’seanButler
SF- TWill
PF- Varnardo
C Hump

Dooling's D

I’ve loved Dooling’s D as of late the way he’s attacking the primary full court as they try to bring up the ball.

We need more guys who take pride in their defense like that.

He’s a professional. I heard somebody dissing dooling a couple days ago, I was like “you have no idea what your talking about”.

Definitely a decent defender. Problem is with the Nets, poor individual defenders on top of being poor when it comes to team defense. They don’t talk, they have no concepts of defensive principles. No gameplan. A lot of team defense is trust, and the Nets show none

How are the Nets this bad?

Devin is back to getting 21 and 7, CLee andTwill are playing the best ball of the season. Yi is out and Hump and Boone are playing the big line up, Dooling is healthy and even though Brook looks burned out, he’s still getting double digit points. I know this isn’t a good team but they shouldn’t be THIS bad. Shows what a good job Frank did last year with the only real difference VC.

The front court

mediocre coaching, but mostly the mostly the worst front court, even with Lopez, in the NBA. Also the fact there’s almost no basketball staff, I don’t think people realize how much scouting and such plays a role in teams success.

That’s a nice point Gina. I don’t know how many times I see opposing players get to their strong hand when they are notoriously weak going to their left. Even after they’ve already scored 30 lol it’s funny

Yeah I know the Rockets pour money into scouting

we talked about it in my statistics class. Their scouting department went over film of every game he’s played, divided the court into like 5-7 zones and look at the percentage of times he goes to his right and left in each of them, then determined how often he drives or steps back and takes a jump shot and what his shooting percentage is from those zones when he shoots a jump shot. Think about how much man power, and in turn cost in $$$, has to go into that. I’m pretty sure the Mavs pour money into the same type of research.

Don't want to be completely Negative though....

Because even though the team isn’t winning, we’re playing a lot better than before. And i’ll take that.

by SamsHops on Mar 16, 2010 6:26 PM EDT reply actions

we’re playing a lot better than before

When the team was , they were unwatchable. When they play D, take charges, scramble for loose balls, they are watchable. for me anyway, that made the difference. All net fans have seen plenty of lost games. i cant STAND not really trying.
