Game 67 - Nets vs. Hawks - Tuesday, March 16, 7:30

The Nets return home after a five game road trip that took them east to New York, then west all the way to Texas.  One win in five is actually better than their overall winning percentage.  Devin Harris' availability won't be known til Tuesday, but the Hawks' Joe Johnson is already out and Mike Bibby is questionable as well. Atlanta is deep and fighting hard for playoff position.  They've moved a game ahead of the reeling Celtics for the #3 seed, four and a half in back of the Magic.  With Johnson out, expect the scoring burden to move upfront to Al Horford, Marvin Williams and of course, Josh Smith.

For the Nets, it will be an opportunity for another close look at Terrence Williams.  If Harris is out, he could get a lot of minutes running the offense.  It's not something the Nets would have relished a few weeks ago, but TWill has turned it up a notch and admits he's now acting like a "grown-up".

Horford, Williams and Smith are all forwards

over under, 90 points combined for them? Thank God Childress left or they might put up 120 on us between them.

I'd say 20 for Smith, 28 for Horford, and 14 for Williams

Williams isn’t that good, and Smith might feel like taking dumb shots with Joe out.

If Bibby plays, expect at least 5 threes from him.

Johnson and Williams kill the Nets. this is actually a reasonable chance at winning with no Joe johnson

by i says on Mar 15, 2010 10:42 PM EDT reply actions

Really?

Cause I think even without Johnson this is one of the worst teams we could be matched up with. One of the most athletic front courts in the NBA.

Harris out again...

Most of the time I feel like Harris is good enough at the point that you can at least be a playoff team with decent players in the other four spots. Sure, every once in a while he’ll have a terrible game where he shoots too much. And his defense is still not reliable enough. But this team is so bad at the 3 and 4 that it’s hard to judge him on this season.
But…he’s got to stop missing so many games! As much as I like him, if the Nets get Wall, I’d definitely deal him.

by NetsJetsFan on Mar 15, 2010 11:57 PM EDT reply actions

If T-will emerges next season I'd consider dealing him for front court help

If a guy has been as injury prone as he’s been for his early/mid 20s, it’s certainly not going to get better for his late 20s early 30s. Keep Dooling this off-season and if T-will proves he can hold down the starting point guard spot move Harris for front court help at next years deadline.

Depends on

who we draft. If we can get Turner or Wall, I’d be cool with Terrence starting.

If not, we’re screwed.

Whatever happens, I just hope that Yi and Devin are traded for something valuable.

by pegs on Mar 16, 2010 3:45 AM EDT up reply actions

Injury prone????

Where did you hear that Terrence Williams was injury prone? In his senior year preseason he had a torn meniscus knee injury, but only missed 2 games that entire year, and his other 3 years at Louisville he missed maybe 1 game. I’m not saying he shouldn’t be traded to improve the Nets, but don’t toss around that he is injury prone.

by fodder0 on Mar 16, 2010 2:11 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Gina is referring to Devin.

But you are right “knock on wood.” T-Will hardly ever missed a game in college due to injury. That is what makes him so important to the Nets; his game will come around and he will only get better by playing. He has to be on the court to learn, and he has to stay healthy to play.

by aunt-B on Mar 16, 2010 2:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah I was talking about Harris

I can see how the wording could be confusing though my bad. I definitely don’t want to trade T-will.

Devin is a keeper

He’s young, and he’s AS material. How many AlStars do we have????

There’s no need to trade him for frontcourt help. We have enough assets (draft picks, cap space) to not to have to give up on him to improve our frontline.

by Andres B on Mar 16, 2010 5:31 AM EDT reply actions

Wishing on a star...

I keep hearing how we are going to improve our front line, for many years now . We haven’t had a decent PF for years and we really have no SF now.

We have plenty of guards and little wings and we probably will draft another one.

I can almost see Yi and Trent Hassel starting for us next season.

When the Nets land a decent PF and SF then maybe we can start winning some games.

Jason Collins

would probably drop 38/15 on us and limit Brook to 1-10…

JC

I never was a big fan of his, but I kind of miss Twin right now, LOL

Wonderful to hear this...

From D’Alessandro’s article;

"I didn’t handle it well," he admitted Monday. "I should have taken (the role reduction) for what it was, and just learn. Once I started to be quiet and not come late and get fined all the time — just being a grown-up, and being a man about the situation — that distraction was lifted. I started to see things in the game that I wasn’t seeing before."

"And when you play, it’s easier to get back to your game, and do what you know what you do well — what you love to do," he added. "So things started to gradually change, and I just ran with it."

ARE YOU LISTENING CDR… HOPE SO…

Maybe Kiki is accomplishing something good...

If Kiki can turn T-Will around, maybe he has done more this year, then if he had 10 more wins.

The young players are the key. T-Will, Courtney and CDR. Right now 2 out of 3 ain’t bad.

I would love for CDR to become part of this team’s future, but really, it’s up to him.

by M I K E on Mar 16, 2010 10:59 AM EDT up reply actions

T-Will learning from mistakes.

I never could understand how T-Will could get himself into all that trouble. When he played for Louisville he was the “perfect role model” player and person. I think he misses not being given directions. Petino was a very methodical coach and the players always knew what was expected out of them on and off the court. Hopefully Net fans will come to see what everyone at Louisville loved so much about this kid and just how special a player he can become. Glad to see that it isn’t too late for him. I only wish CD-R would take heed and learn from T-Will’s mistakes before it is too late for him.

No CDR does not listen he TALKS!!!

I think he and the Nets may both benefit from a clean break in the off-season. There seems to be a lot of baggage there.

Kiki is a moron

CD-R hasn’t been given a fair shot. He should shut up, but Kiki does hate him with a passion. Once Kiki goes, and we bring in a REAL coach who gives him a fair chance and uses him properly, we’ll see the same CD-R we saw under Frank late last season and early this season.

by Andres B on Mar 16, 2010 11:03 AM EDT reply actions

sorry

I meant Kiki does hate the kid

Anyways, it’s not like CD-R has said anything controversial lately, yet he keeps being glued to the bench

So happy for TWILL

…I thought he was going the way of SWat and CDR…now I can enjoy his highlight dunks and incredible passes…instead of reading about sleeping through shootarounds and daydreaming he was on another team…

by jirohkanzaki on Mar 16, 2010 11:05 AM EDT reply actions

Kiki...

is not a coach and he didn’t want to coach but took the job forced on him by Thorn…Kiki probably told CDR to pick his spots and get others involved…and he interprets it as “OK I’ll shoot like twice a game and feed it to your favorite Yi even if he’s out of position” and he lost his offensive aggressiveness…Kiki then gave CDR around 15-20 mins a game to prove himself but he did nothing with it…instead he twitters about how he dominates in practice and that Lebron is not pleased with the Nets the way they are treating him and that he has a shitty relationship with his coach…now he gets DNPs again…Kiki will give him another chance down the road but unless he becomes more mature he aint playing much…

by jirohkanzaki on Mar 16, 2010 11:17 AM EDT reply actions

CDR will get another chance...

CDR has his chance right now. Watch, listen and be ready when called.

Playing minutes in games is wonderful but the way you conduct your affairs and attitude off the court is just as important.

CDR has to lighten up a bit. He is wound to tight.

Being super competitive and driven is nice, until taken to far.

Get along to go along.

Teague is starting in Johnson’s place and Bibby slides to the 2-spot. Courtney needs to be huge this game.

Perusing through the Moscow Times...

I usually check out the Moscow Times, being a man of the world and all, and I came across this article today.

“Officials broke ground Thursday on a much-delayed 9-hectare development project that will bring the NBA’s New Jersey Nets, owned by billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, to Brooklyn”.

How come everybody calls Proky the Nets owner accept the NBA?

What a charade. Lets get this thing done officially, now.

If Proky is holding up the deal because of “legal” concerns, I’m less impressed with him. Shows us your a man who takes risks and really wants to come on board.

How can the Nets franchise stay in limbo for this long. Can’t be good for team morale and overall confidence.

Lets get the ball rolling.
