Game 66 - Nets @ Rockets - Saturday, March 13, 8:30

The Nets finish a five-game road trip Saturday in Houston, facing a team that has struggled after a promising start.  The Rockets are five games out of the playoffs and unlikely to make the cut.  Yao Ming is out for the season, their big off season acquisition, Trevor Ariza, has been disappointing and fans are still upset about the trade that sent Carl Landry to the Kings.  Still, the Rockets have Shane Battier, Aaron Brooks, Luis Scola and Kevin Martin.  Expect Scola to get questions about his plans for free agency in July.  David Anderson also might get some.   Anderson played for CSKA Moscow under Mikhail Prokhorov.

When was the last time Yao Ming wasn't out for the season?

Between him and McGrady the Rockets must have racked up some hefty medical bills the last few years.

im feeling a win also

start twill already!

no more hassell…and therefore cdr gets chance.

by Andy. on Mar 13, 2010 7:44 AM EST reply actions

Enough with the Hassell starting nonsense

And reduce Hayes’ PT too. TWill needs to start at the 3 and CDR needs to be back into the rotation. I’m so fed up with Kiki.

by Andres B on Mar 13, 2010 8:43 AM EST reply actions

T-will doesn't need to start at the three

we need him coming off the bench with the second unit. You can’t put all your scorers in the starting line up there won’t be enough touches to go between them.

TWill is a stud and a keeper.

What we agree on is that TWill should be getting at least 30-35 min PT if he doesn’t get into foul trouble, as Kiki has finally done these past two games. Had Kiki been doing the same much earlier, he would be further along by the end of the year.
I would rather not start TWill, to be sure he doesn’t get into foul trouble. I want him to finish games along with Hump. Management needs to know the future for TWill before this summer. Maybe getting RGay should be given less priority as a result.

I predicted all this at the beginning of the year and never waivered on TWill.

We can agree that Hassell can’t score from outside and is too small to be playing against Bigs as Kiki has been doing. At least Hayes can sometimes spread the defense due to his better shooting recently.

I would have no problem though if TWill started and CDR came in with 2nd unit. Management needs to determine the future of CDR. Its too obvious that CDR is being punished by Kiki.

Then watch about hayes, dooling, cdr, hump…cant they score?

by Andy. on Mar 13, 2010 12:36 PM EST up reply actions

Each one of them is flawed

and at least two of them are weeks away from playing their last games as Nets.

by Net Income on Mar 13, 2010 1:07 PM EST up reply actions

this doesnt sound like NI to me. dooling is staying, hump is definately staying, an hayes and CDr and valuable trade assets

by i says on Mar 13, 2010 2:11 PM EST up reply actions

It IS NI

Hayes can’t be traded. His contract expires.

CDR could be traded on Draft night to move up.

Actually Hump doesn’t have to accept his 3.2 million player option and try the open market.
However, since Kiki has been limiting Humps minutes, he would be taking a risk with all the FAs on market and Nets fans should continue to make Hump feel welcome.

If Nets don’t have plans for 2 quality FAs, then Dooling could stay. Would have to decide at deadline about what to do with Dooling. NI is Wrong to 100% assume Keyon is gone. If Nets took Cousins, then Dooling’s value to Nets increases. Maybe Nets could force Dooling to renegotiate to take 1-1.5 million pay cut, rather that test free agency. Also could re-sign for 2 years for only 4-4.5 million.

by jerry25 on Mar 13, 2010 4:22 PM EST up reply actions

TWill aint a scorer. He’s a facilitator, and we lack playmakers in the starting unit. CDR could provide that scoring abiliy off the bench

by Andres B on Mar 13, 2010 8:57 AM EST reply actions

Kiki is screwing up lineup

Nets need 2 bigs at all times. Hump should be getting 35 min a game if no foul trouble, although its Okay if Boone starts.
I would even bring back Boone in August for Vets Min, if he can do something about his free throw shooting concentration.

Obviously Nets should have tried out a D-Leaguer Big for 10 days.
I suspect that Kiki would refuse to play anyone else, which may be why Thorn hasn’t gone ahead with that plan.

by jerry25 on Mar 13, 2010 9:18 AM EST reply actions

Boone's a waste no need to bring him back

What you see is what you get, trim the fat and replace him. Humphries has showed what a rotation big man should be.
I’m all for drafting a big or by trade that’s what this team needs most. Brook is not enough.

by universal on Mar 13, 2010 2:20 PM EST up reply actions

He wouldn't cause trouble at the end of the bench, like a Rafer Alston

Its hard sometimes to keep the #12-#15 players from being a problem in locker room.

However, I don’t know why no one has forced Boone to be more repetitive at the FT line.
Coaching staff should deserve some blame. Kiki must have given up.

by jerry25 on Mar 13, 2010 4:39 PM EST up reply actions

I'm sure he's a good guy but Josh Boone's not a comsitent good player

Rafer Alston was more talented but had a bad attitude. That’s why he never stuck with one team.

The coach can only do but so much with a marginal talent.

by universal on Mar 14, 2010 5:04 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree Jerry, I would like us to bring back Josh to complete the big man rotation. He’s a good team player who won’t complain if he doesnt’ play, and who will be ready when his number is called. PLus, he’s the longest tenured Net. :D

by Andres B on Mar 13, 2010 9:56 AM EST reply actions

Any thoughts from Nets fans about Rafer Alston's suspension?

He was just suspended from Miami for remainder of season. He left team without telling anyone, around the time he was taken out of starting rotation for Arroyo. However, he says now that it has to do with a personal matter involving his sister. It is expected that Alston will retire.

I was one along with many of us who felt that Rafer was bad for Nets team chemistry.
Some people (not mentioning names), however, felt that Nets should keep Alston and get rid of Dooling.
I argued that Dooling has a better future and once he is fully recovered from his surgery he should be even better.

I hope Nets can re-negotiate Dooling’s contract and keep him.
However, unless Nets plan on getting two 10+ million free agents, they can put things off for another year.

I'm concerned about Knicks wanting to do a Sign and Trade with DLee for Bosh after this season?

My question is if Knicks don’t waive rights to DLee, can they do a sign and trade with Toronto or another team so as not to lose Lee without getting something in return?
Or would that only work if DLee agreed to sign a contract with the other team?

I thought FAs or their agents couldn’t talk until July 1?
How is it that we are learning about Joe Johnson to Knicks as a sure thing according to ESPN rumors?
I can’t imagine Johnson’s agent being agreeable unless we were talking over $14 million to start?

How then could Knicks afford Joe Johnson + either Bosh (16+ million) or DLee (12+ million) and still have room for someone like RGay ($10 million for $60 million total) as The Post suggests?? Unless of course Curry gave them a big discount to be bought out?

I am concerned though about not having opportunity to make offer for DLee. Is it possible?
This is much more urgent than remaining games.

by jerry25 on Mar 13, 2010 10:39 AM EST reply actions

Why would DLee and his agent want him to go to Toronto minus Bosh instead of staying in NY with Nets and Prokhorov and BLopez plus maybe Wall/Turner?

Is there any scenario where DLee wouldn’t have any choice?
Would Toronto even have 12 million+ in cap space to sign DLee?

by jerry25 on Mar 13, 2010 10:45 AM EST up reply actions

I thought a sign and trade only works if the player agrees to it. If D. Lee doesn’t want to go to Toronto, than the deal can’t be done if I’m not mistaken. The only reason that I can think of for D. Lee for agreeing to a sign and trade is because of the money.

by LetsGoNets on Mar 13, 2010 11:43 AM EST up reply actions

The post has no clue what they are talking about...

The Knicks can have Joe Johnson and Chris Bosh. I will take David Lee and Carmelo the following year. As long as the Knicks don’t get Lebron I am a happy man. Who knows maybe an Amare of Wade will sign with us. As for the Joe Johnson article… why leave a team who is young and could be a beast in the east for 3+ yrs to come? I don’t think David Lee would agree to a sign and trade either. If Toronto was smart they would sign and trade for Curry and Danillo. This way they get a huge expiring and take Gallo from the Knicks which would give them fair value to rebuild.

by Bruce Jones on Mar 13, 2010 12:02 PM EST reply actions

Not getting into the prediction game

but I see no reason for any of these guys to play for the Knicks right now. With the exception of Wade, the are all in winning situations…and the Heat have $19 million in cap space. Read today’s coverage of the Knicks. They are a mess. D’Antoni has been exposed as a mediocre coach. He spent half time screaming at his players.

You can even make an argument that the players the Knicks dumped for cap space are playing better, even MUCH better, after leaving the Walsh-D’Antoni system. Crawford will be sixth man of the year. Randolph is an All-Star and could get the Grizzlies into the playoffs. Jordan Hill has played surprisingly well for the Rockets since the trade. Not to mention the draft pick mess. No pick in 2010, a pick that might have to be swapped in 2011, no pick in 2012.

This is starting to creep up on Knicks fans.

by Net Income on Mar 13, 2010 1:14 PM EST up reply actions

D'Antoni ruined Duhon's reputation as well as Nate Robinson, Milicic, Curry, Wilcox - the list goes on and on.

It is the Hope for this summer that gives Knicks fans a pass on D’Antoni. If Knicks don’t make playoffs, he is finished next year.
D’Antoni will be coaching in Italy.

by jerry25 on Mar 13, 2010 8:40 PM EST up reply actions

I hope that Knicks overpay for Joe Johnson and they can have Boozer or Amare or Bosh in that order.

If Toronto took Curry and Danillo in a S/T, then I guess Knicks could have their 3rd FA such as DLee. But once again, wouldn’t DLee have to approve? Why would DLee want to play with a gutted team that didn’t include Danillo? Toronto has better players right now and they are at 500!

Is anyone watching evan turner...

please get us the # 1 or #2 picks so we can grab this guy. He is relentless, unselfish, and a superstar in the making. He could be the next 20 5 5 guy in the nba. He plays good D and can play the 1,2,3, and even 4.

by Bruce Jones on Mar 13, 2010 3:42 PM EST reply actions

Don't preach to the choir. He is #1 pick if Nets get #1 pick. The media has an agenda.

I would almost want Cousins for #2 pick, even though Wall will be an All Star too, with right team.
There is less than 2 years age between Turner and Wall. Wall would have to get stronger, but I don’t see the rest of his game improving much.

that dream shake thing is so stupid

haha the fan has no idea what hes talking about. he caliams brooks is better then devo and that the rocket bench and starting 2 guard are better then boht ours. he knows nothing about the nets!!!

by i says on Mar 13, 2010 6:29 PM EST reply actions

Carmelo and Durant are FA’s in 2011, correct? i highly doubt either them of them would leave. durant loves okc, melo is already a contender. and also, lebron wont be leaving cleveland bcuz all the greats have always stayed with one team for the good parts of their carer.

Magic, bird, MJ, Kobe, Duncan,

by i says on Mar 13, 2010 7:37 PM EST reply actions

Evan Turner a power forward? Maybe in Golden State, but Don Nelson is a wacko and might not even be there next season regardless of whether or not he becomes the NBA’s all-time winningest coach.

Yi...

not many posts when no one can blame Yi for Scola going off for a carreer high 44…Yi shut them up just by not playing! I remember the game thread when people were laughing at Yi when the Nets were ahead by 18 against Dallas…who’s laughing now?

by jirohkanzaki on Mar 14, 2010 1:28 AM EST reply actions

It has always been Kiki's fault

He should have been playing Hump 35 minutes, not 14 minutes.
He should have brought up a D-Leaguer immediately.

Kiki WANTS to make PF look bad. He is one track in favor of Yi.

If Nets had Cousins or DLee, these would all be wins.
