Nets Lose 18-point Lead, Fall in Dallas
The Dallas Mavericks extended their winning streak to 13 games on Wednesday, but not before the Nets gave them a scare. Behind Devin Harris and Brook Lopez, the Nets jumped out to an 11-1 lead and led by as many as 18 in the second quarter. The Mavs closed to within eight by halftime, took the lead midway through the third, and were up eight heading into the fourth. But the Nets didn't fold. They closed to within a bucket in the final minutes, but couldn't convert on their two opportunities to tie it or take the lead, and Dallas came away with a nine-point win.
Both teams had six players in double-figures, but the difference in the game was at the foul line, were the Mavs outscored the Nets 24-13. Devin Harris led the Nets with 21 points and seven assists, but turned the ball over six times. Terrence Williams continued his strong play, finishing with 18 points, 13 rebounds and three assists. But Brook Lopez shot just 5-16 from the field and Courtney Lee also struggled after a hot start. The Nets held Dirk Nowitzki to just 12 points on 3-16 shooting, but Jason Kidd was the key against his old team, finishing with 20 points (hitting five threes), nine assists and four steals.

Why in the Go Net/Poptarts doesn't Twill start?
I have had enough of Kiki. Anybody in their right mind knows that he needs to start. Lineup must be:
Harris
Lee
Twill
I don’t care
Lopez
Enough is enough already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i think dooling getting hurt might force Twill into having to be devin’s backup.
by BrooklynLopezNets on Mar 10, 2010 11:46 PM EST up reply actions
How do you play twill..? If we do then we will have 3 guards, everybody will be driving layup after layup. Remember is not about offense is also about DEFENSE. Also Brook isn’t a tough inside defender. Yi is horrible, Boone is offensive liablilty.
The Nets just need a PF and SF, Yi belongs in the bench.
Yeah guys I disagree
I think we should have Hassell at power forward and go with Kiki’s renowned midget ruckus lineup…
Devin Harris-PG
Keyon Dooling-SG
Courtney Lee-SF
Trenton Hassell-PF
Brook Lopez-C
Why give Twill, who is finally gaining confidence any playing time? That would be stupid. I think guys like Trenton Hassell, who has about a 0% chance of being on this team next season, should get all the playing time.
Meanwhile, if we get a spectacular draft pick and two very good free agents next season, it looks like the division may be ours.
The Celtics are collapsing big-time. There’s only one way to go for them now – even further downhill.
The Sixers have no future.
The Raptors are decent, but they’ll most likely lose Bosh next season (hopefully to a team in West although I’m sure he’ll stay in the east) and really only be a 30-35 win team next season.
The Knicks may very well be our biggest competition in the coming years. I assume they’ll probably match us free agent wise from a talent standpoint. Both of us will get two significant players, neither of which will be LBJ/Wade/Amare. The big thing is that WE have our #1-4 pick and a very decent bench in place. Imagine our division looking like this next season. It might, but lets not get too far ahead of ourselves, be something similar to (and this is best case scenario, we may be a doormat next season too)
1. New Jersey (4th seed)
2. New York (6th seed)
3. Boston (8th seed) Yes, that’s how bad I think they’ll be next season
-——Teams that missed playoffs below————
4. Toronto
5. Philadelphia
Eastern Conference Playoff Picture
1. Cleveland
2. Orlando
3. Miami ( I think they’ll get a very good player to play next to Wade)
4. New Jersey (Add a Wall/Turner, Gay/Miller, Lee/Stoudemire, other smaller pieces)
5. Milwaukee (Very good future; can they add players?)
6. New York (Add a Joe Johnson, Stoudemire/Bosh)
7. Boston (Lose Allen, maybe. Injuries. Much less energy. Swept in 1st round prev. season)
8. Atlanta (Joe Johnson will be on the Knicks; they still have enough to be 8th)
-———————————
9. Chicago: Things won’t be so easy when you have former doormats strengthening the competition significantly. They might be a 7th or 8th seed.
10. Charlotte: Gerald Wallace and Stephen Jackson will have a harder time.
11. Toronto: Barnagni might be their franchise player.
12. Detroit: Their roster looks awesome but the players don’t even know each other’s names: that’s where their chemistry is right now)
13. Philadelphia (Poor Ed Stefanski)
14. Indiana (Hibbert and Granger are two excellent pieces, if they add some more they can be much higher)
15. Washington (Nets 2.0)
Too many forced shoots of Lopez
Haywood was too tough for him
yeah, the new guys, kidd and that french rookie won the game for dallas
BTW, when was the last time nets have won there?

0-2 without Yi
What happened to the “Yi is the biggest reason why the Nets lose” theory? If anything Yi doesn’t impact the Nets as much as people would want to believe…He doesn’t help as much as to win us games and he doesn’t suck as much as to lose games for the Nets…Boone, Hump or Yi at the 4, Nets just suck!!!
It was the reason for the Knicks win
3 very good games essentially without Yi.
With a better coach, they might have all been wins.
Win DLee as PF/backup center, they would all have been easy wins.
Boone
Yeah…I saw how Boone destroyed Nowitzki all night to keep us in the game!
by jirohkanzaki on Mar 11, 2010 11:04 AM EST up reply actions
You’re making a fake connection. It’s a false premise.
But I see you might be using a little sarcasm and then tempering it with the parts about not a major reason for wins or losses.
With that in mind…
We’re not saying, “If Yi is out, we’ll always win.”
We’re saying, “If Yi is in, we’re even more likely to lose than we already are.”
IMHO, Yi’s constantly poor defense and lousy hands make him worse than having Boone or Hump in at the 4.
There’s a difference. It’s not just words. It’s a real difference in ideas.
Well OK...
then you say the Nets are less likely to lose without Yi, well 0-2 without Yi doesn’t give much credence to that either…if it goes up to 0-5 then that theory looks even less believable…

I am tired of the Yi thing
And really got pissed off in the game thread, when we led by 18 pts and people began to laugh at Yi, now what would you say about it? Just stop all these brainless bashing and endless debates, cant really tolerate it anymore.
to be fair, yi is better suited coming off the bench.

Get rid of Kiki once and for all
Why doesn’t TWill start? Why does CDR get a DNP CD while vets who won’t be back like Hayes and Hassell are given minutes? While does Lee plays 46 minutes when he didn’t have a good night and CDR is benched?
This clown is taking this nonsense too far. Get this buffoon the heck out of here NOW.
This is one of those games that we could have use another big besides Lopez. A big man that could man the 4 and 5 without giving up a couple inches in height and won’t be push around. Hint*hint* DCousins! Brook Lopez should work on his rebounding, defense and shooting from 8-10 ft.
by jasperjarrod on Mar 11, 2010 6:21 AM EST via mobile reply actions
I would love t see this guys in a Nets uniform. DCousins and DFavors. 2 quality bigs that could help our front court. Turner scares me with his back. JWall is a sure #1 pick but we don’t know if were getting it.

The second statistical anomaly!
Whaaat, we lost again! But Yi didn’t play in this game too! He’s the cause of all of our losses isn’t he?! How did this happen?!
Yes, it would have been a blowout early, if Yi was playing.
Unfortunately, an incompetent Kiki used Hassell instead of Yi at times.
So if we lose with him, and we lost without him, why is it Yi’s fault again?
You guys got what you wanted. You got Boone who racked up 4 fouls in 11 minutes leading to shortened minutes for him. You got your Hump. Who else is he supposed to play at the PF spot? We know how much you guys hate small ball. Not like Battie is gonna be a factor.
And please, CDR hasn’t done anything meaningful with the minutes given to him in months.
Meanwhile, TWill managed to work his way out of the doghouse by actually improving his play, not moaning how things have changed. It’s called adaptation. People here seem to love one dimensional players. This is Sean Williams 2.0. You guys sure nailed it the last time huh? At least the Chinese league now has a hall of fame player
Please. Comparing CDR to Swat is ridiculous
CDR has actual talent and HAS produced when a real coach has given him the chance and sued him properly. It wasn’t only early this year, last season Frank began to give him a chance and the kid played great too.
Yi Sucks. Get with the plan!
For those who question why he is “the cause” or the “biggest reason” for "all " our loses just remember the plan was to lose. That’s why he is the best PF we have. Not sure of our plan? Look at our coach. Why doesn’t Boone play? Up 17-3 last night wasn’t good enough? TWill must be part of the plan to lose cuz we’re saving him for next year.
Don't blame Boone...
Fouls just fall in his lap just like rebounds fall on Yi’s!!!
by jirohkanzaki on Mar 11, 2010 11:01 AM EST up reply actions
Blaming Yi for this team sucking is like blaming the on-board nurse for the Titanic sinking. If he’s still on the team next year, he won’t be starting. Enough with the crap.
by JohnFromLongIsland on Mar 11, 2010 7:55 AM EST via mobile reply actions
fwiw, Yi only gets 31mpg (4th on the team behind Devin, Brook, and Lee)
Also, because of his injuries, he has fewer total minutes than TWill over the season (he is 6th on the team in total minutes this season). In terms of “development”, he needs more minutes…
Comments regarding Yi don't need things like reality and facts!
Exaggeration? What does that even mean? lol
Heres also the fact
Hes not the one to sink the ship.
Plus, from what ur saying, it sounds like anybody in this team plays D except Yi, Which is not the reality.
The reality is, we dont have D as a team, Harris doeant have it, Lopez doesnt have it, Lee doesnt have it, Dooling doesnt have it, CDR doesnt even bother with it. TWill and Hump might have, as u may say it, but from what Ive seen there is not much called D in this team.
He shoots 40%, but compared to most 7ft players, his role has him taking...
…more midrange and perimeter jump-shots. He shoots 41% from 3pt range (second on the team next to Chris Quinn)…
TWIll was great again last night
This kid is something special. Now that he’s getting real PT, he’s showing what he can do. I’m not concerned with wins or losses at this point, and couldn’t really care if we get the futility record. What I do care about is who is worthy of playing for us next year. TWill has been firmly cemented for ‘10-’11. Here are my keepers for next year, should anyone decide that they care:
Lopez
Harris
Lee
Williams
Hayes
Dooling
Humphries
All others I can live without. Go Nets!
Imagine if Nets had DLee - easy win vs. Dallas at Dallas
Nets were playing a fair amount without a PF, and still could have won with some better shooting.
Why was Hassell getting so much PT in place of Humpries or TWill, who didn’t even have foul trouble.
Hump and TWill should play a minimum of 30 mpg and more if no foul trouble.
If Nets got Turner and DLee, there might not be time for TWill to get minutes next year if they also got RGay.
This definitely should affect decision to go after RGay.
Also Lopez looked lost at times. Some is his fault, including some stupid fouls, but mostly he needs a real PF to take pressure off. Hump played with Lopez only about 15 minutes.
With David Lee, all of these losses would be wins.
I think TWill could play if we get Gay
TWill could be an excellent 6th Man off the bench next season. If we get Gay, TWill could spell him as well as Harris and CLee. Since he’s so versatile, there will always be playing time for him somewhere on the floor. That way he gets his 30+ minutes per game and we get a greatr talent at SF in Gay. I love our options for next year!
Why stop there?
Imagine if Wilt Chamberlain came back from the dead and Bill Russell was 20 again and both decided to play for the Nets!
by jirohkanzaki on Mar 11, 2010 10:58 AM EST up reply actions
Oh, ye of little faith...
I’m working on Russell and Chameberlin as we speak. Russell’s in great shape, in case you haven’t noticed. And I hear rumors of Chamberlain’ DNA being preserved cryogenically. Now, as soon as the US repeals that stupid anti-cloning law…
Evan Turner also plays SG, SF and PG so that would cause a problem.
Point is that DLee is the main player Nets need, if they first get Turner with draft pick.
My concern
Is that we go into next season with a team full of rookies and don’t improve on the court. I’d rather have a veteran (Gay) than a rookie. We need to get better next season, not 2-3 years down the road. Our starting 5 is young enough as is. I have nothing against Turner, but in most cases, rookies don’t have a major impact on a team’s win-loss record in their first couple of seasons. I think the addition of Gay will be a major upgrage to our team, especially if he is paired witht the right coach. Defense is not his forte in the pros, but he was quite the defender in college. If we got JVG for example, I think his defensive prowess would improve, and he’s already a gifted offensive player.
I do agree with you about DLee. He should be a priority. Lopez needs help down low, and he’d a be a great get for us.
Turner WILL have a great impact
Much bigger than Gay would have.
Giving someone like Rudy Gay $12-13M per would be a similar mistake to GS overpaying Jason Richardson. I guarantee you anyone signing Gay at that price will want to trade him within 2 years. Book it.
I don't think we should overpay for anyone
but I think we would miss out on a great opportunity if we let him slip by. I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree on this one, as I want to see significant overall improvement next season. The best way to do that is to bring in a proven veteran. Keep in mind that Gay is only 23, but has 3-4 years of NBA experience. I think our best option is to trade our top pick as part of a sign-and-trade to get Gay (or DLee), should they demand more than we’re willing to pay. I have a real concern about going into next season with a bunch of rookies and young players and struggling to win 30 games. I don’t wwant to see another season like this one again.
Only way we should consider Gay...
…is if we end up with the 3rd-4th pick and grab a stud big man (Cousins, Favors). But if we get Wall/Turner, we shouldn’t spend the big bucks on Gay, but on a big man and some complementary pieces.
Michael Heisley, owner of the Grizzlies, on Rudy Gay:
"People say are you going to pay Rudy Gay? My answer to them is simply are you going to come to the games? If I can’t get people to come to the games I can’t pay anybody.
"I feel we’re going to sign him. I don’t know what else you want me to say. Rudy is an outstanding player. He fits our team well. We’ve got the best front line in basketball."
With they success the Grizz have gotten this season, they could see it fit to match any offers for him
Plus we're overloaded at the swingman positions
CDR will probably be gone, but we’ll still have Hayes, Dooling, TWill, Hassell (maybe) and then Turner on top of them. We need big men, IMO, not more 6’5" to 6’7" guys that don’t help with rebounding, shot blocking and post defense.
Both Hassell and Hayes will be gone
There’s no way we keep them and let CDR go, that’d be insane.
I wouldn’t mind keeping Trent as 13th-14th man on the roster, he’s a great pro and team player, but I think he’ll sign with a contender. If he’s gonna be at the end of the bench, I’m sure he’d rather be with a playoff team.
As for Hayes, the guy should just be let go. He’s been flat out HORRIBLE this season, somebody please explain me why we would keep him. The only reason why he’s getting minutes ahead of CDR is because Kiki hates the kid with a passion and he’s friends with Hayes’ agent. From a basketball standpoint, Hayes isn’t worth being kept around or played ahead of CDR.
Hayes will be back next season IMO
Hayes is a quality three point shooter and clutch…..this year he has not shot well but its possible to have off years. He is a quality teammate and he will rise to the occassion when the occasions get bigger. We will need some reliable vets to fill out our roster next season. His subpar play this season means we can bring him back for less. I’m certain the Nets would want him back for the vets minimum. Not sure how much higher we would go though.
Trade the 1st overall if we get it for a multiple picks. Cousins and Favors together with the Nets for at Least 3 years would be nice. We should go big with our first pick. JWall is nice but we need a big man trhat could play besides Lopez or take over the 5 spot when Brook is in foul trouble.
by jasperjarrod on Mar 11, 2010 9:50 AM EST up reply actions
Oh and Brook...
…while the Kid is going to be very good for the next decade, he has to learn how to control his ‘kid’ emotions. That foul on Haywood out of frustration just seemed to start the turnaround last night. Brook has to let go of that side of his emotions and channel them towards letting it go and coming back down and taking it to the rim hard. Get pissed yes, but use it against the oponent and not himself.
Go Nets!
Agreed
I think this season has worn on Brook more than any of us realize. He’s got to rein in his emotions out there. I read somewhere that he came out and admitted as much. I can’t say I blame him. Having said that, other teams recognize his ability and will foul him and try to get him off his game now and in the future. We need him on the court, not cheering from the bench.
"will foul him and try to get him off his game"
One more reason we should draft a big man. If we have cousins he could play the 5 if Brook is sitting on the bench. I would trade the #1 over all for a multiple picks and try to go up a liitle bit to draft Cousins and then use the other picks as a trade bait or for another big like Favors. I wonder if Minnesota interested in trading their 1st round picks to get the #1 overall…maybe they are interested in drafting a PG again :)
by jasperjarrod on Mar 11, 2010 9:55 AM EST up reply actions
Speaking of Minnesota
Anyone know about Al Jefferson’s status? Is there any chance of getting him if we can’t snare DLee? He’d be a great addition alongside Lopez.
True...
…Jefferson and any PF of his skills will compliment Lopez bigtime. DLee also would be a good pairing, in fact any reliable scorer at the PF would make BLo a tremendous weapon.
Go Nets!
I don't really think Jefferson would complement
he’s a so-so rebounder and doesn’t really play defense. He’s also another guy who’d take touches from Lopez.
"We have a plan, and our plan, I like our plan'
it's Omar's world, we're just livin in it.
A big lead on the 1st quarter always spells doom later on.
I was really surprised/impressed that we were actually close coming down the stretch. Twill is looking good. Like he broke his leash somehow.
You do realize we were down just 2 with about 3 or 4 minutes left in the game. We lost this game because when the game is close, we don’t get stops and we don’t make shots. We do need a PF but we also need a consistent go to scorer. We have some talented players but the make up of the team is poor.
I don't think we just need a scorer
I think we need someone who can shoot. We probably lose close games cause it’s so easy to predict our offense.
"We have a plan, and our plan, I like our plan'
it's Omar's world, we're just livin in it.
Imagine drafting John Wall and trading Harris to IND for TJ Ford and the 4th pick. What say ye to Wall, Lee, T-Will, Cousins and Lopez?
I know I am semi sorta against Cuz and Pez together, but I’m a sucker for a good story. College teammates AND NBA teammates?! I’m into that.
