Nets Climb to #29 in NBC Power Poll!

They're still #30 in most power rankings, but NBC Sports' Kurt Helin has given the Nets a "reprieve", dropping Minnesota into the cellar. He cites the Nets' weekend win in Boston. John Schuhmann of NBA.com says while the Celts got the criticism, "the Nets deserve credit for 48 minutes of effort on a Saturday afternoon" while Marc Stein notes they are "two wins ahead of Philly's fateful 9-73 pace through 58 games."

I’m not gonna pin the Wizards loss on Yi.

CDR, Lopez, Harris cost us the game. Period.

by JohnY on Mar 1, 2010 3:41 PM EST reply actions

Everyone deserves blame. This is starting to get lame.

You want to blame someone? Blame the retarded head coach who didn’t have a clue as to how to get his team to break a grade school zone defense.

by Mr. Dollar Bills on Mar 1, 2010 3:44 PM EST reply actions

I thought the Nets Zone defense and Foye hitting 2 back to back pull up fadeaway J the reason we lost.

Life would be easier if we blame everything on Yi.

by malorkayel on Mar 1, 2010 3:49 PM EST reply actions

Exactly people need to stop blaming the players there only doing what the coach tells them to do. Blame everything on Kiki.

by Mikee21 on Mar 1, 2010 4:02 PM EST reply actions

@malorkayel

And who did Foye hit those two shots over?

I’ll give you hint, it was the same guy who missed two free throws late in the game.

by Jack Handy on Mar 1, 2010 4:07 PM EST reply actions

Um, it would be nice if they got some production from the 2 and 3.

by theBurgerKing on Mar 1, 2010 4:26 PM EST reply actions

Blatche was unconscious. He’s on a roll. If he played at his career average levels, we would have won. I’ll gladly take this loss for the win in Beantown.

Yi is still clueless on D and physically weak under the basket. Kiki did not do as good a job on the subs as he did Saturday.

what cost us the game yesterday was everyone missing layups. ughhhh the nets

by matt on Mar 1, 2010 5:21 PM EST reply actions

The reason the Nets lost yesterday was Keyon Dooling, plain and simple.

by Chris on Mar 1, 2010 5:23 PM EST reply actions

The reason the Nets lost yesterday was clearly Lawrence Frank.

by Anthony on Mar 1, 2010 5:46 PM EST reply actions

Lopez lost us that game…He was invisible in the fourth…That’s the quarter that true star players take total control…..And I also agree with Anthony…..

by NetFan48 on Mar 1, 2010 5:49 PM EST reply actions

It’s hard for a 7 foot center to be effective in the 4th when your team is clueless on how to break a zone

Lopez could not post up because there were 3-4 defenders within arm’s reach of him everywhere he went. Had the Nets used simple ball movement and weakside cutting, or able to hit a shot for that matter, they could have kept the defense honest.

by Mr. Dollar Bills on Mar 1, 2010 5:59 PM EST reply actions

I second the Mr. Dollar Bills/Mikee21 sentiment on this one — Kiki deserves the lion’s share of the blame.

He is far and away the team’s biggest problem because he doesn’t put the team in the best position to succeed. Whether it’s substitution patterns, match-ups or play calling, it doesn’t matter, he falls short. Miserably.

While many of us were probably yelling at Devin Harris (really at the TV set) to stop hoisting jumpers, Kiki, the only person who had the ability to rein in Harris, didn’t.

Too often in these post-game interviews, Kiki will say "Well, we didn’t do “this” very well, or, we kind of got kind of got away from “that.” As far as I know, the onus is the head coach to make sure “this” and “that” doesn’t happen — and if “it” does, a good head coach makes adjustments.

As much as I hate to say it because I did like the guy, we heard too many mea culpa’s from Coach Frank over the past couple of seasons as well.

by Delacratic on Mar 1, 2010 6:03 PM EST reply actions

It surprises me how fans can figure out ways to beat defenses but our coaching staff can’t.

by Mikee21 on Mar 1, 2010 6:03 PM EST reply actions

nxt game lineup should b:
harris
clee
twill
humphries
lopez

BACK TO WHERE WE BELONG

by Christos on Mar 1, 2010 6:19 PM EST reply actions

Woohoo. Now go tell LeBron that we’re no longer the last according to at least one ranking. Maybe he’ll sign up now.

by Dude on Mar 1, 2010 7:00 PM EST reply actions

@Jack Handy

I did say it’s easy to blame Yi, so I’m agreeing with you. It was 2 great shots by Foye. Hitting step back J over the 7 footer. They ran that play twice, Wizards made sure he got the iso on the slower defender.

Unlike the Nets, the Wizards knew how to beat the zone and close the game. Again, it’s Yi’s fault, he didn’t have more blocks while defending the quicker guard Foye, to go with this 20pt and 19 rebounds.

Yi could possibly the most physically talented player to ever play in the NBA, because we know he has no bball IQ and butter fingers to pull out such amazing stats in a game.

Or it was a conspiracy by Kiki and all Nets to agree and pad Yi’s stats.

by malorkayel on Mar 1, 2010 7:16 PM EST reply actions

A team with Sly the fox, Hornets’ Hugo, Cayote, The Raptor, Yogi Bear in the zone defense can beat this team!

by DISGRUNTLEDFAN on Mar 1, 2010 7:22 PM EST reply actions

Nets beat the Celtics at home just before, so what does that make the Celtics?

by malorkayel on Mar 1, 2010 7:31 PM EST reply actions

The Celtics didn’t go to the zone and had less effort, the Nets are like Serrano from Major League the movie. Give him a 100 mph fast ball and he can hit a home run, throw him a curb ball and he’ll swing and a miss every time.

by DISGRUNTLEDFAN on Mar 1, 2010 7:44 PM EST reply actions

Delacratic,

I put most of the blame on Rod Thorn. This Kiki experiment is not cute, and he(Rod) should be filing for unemployment at the end of this season, but I guess the Russian has other plans.

Mikee21,

The phrase “keep it simple stupid” has never been any truer in the case of what happened to the Nets in the last game.

As has been the case all year, the off the ball movement is GOD awful on this team. CDR may be the worst out of the lot, it irks me to see someone who has shown the ability to finish or get to the line stand in the corner with a thumb up his…. instead of moving effectively without the ball. I swear this kid can get at least 4-8 points easily if he would just cut to the rim, catch, and make a move. This is simple, fundamental basketball, but of course, Rod Thorn would rather play games instead of putting someone in charge to teach this to these kids.

And Brook needs to learn to pass out of the double team. Some of those forced shots last night reeked of immaturity. Calm down, and pick and choose your spots. If there was some actual coaching going on, I would bet any of you that this would not be a problem with him. This is just sad, it’s like a year has been WASTED with these kids. Who can you really say has improved on this team? Lee is starting to come around, but even with him I’m starting to realize if we had some structure in place instead of “lets play Yi 40 mins to boost his stats so I can look good when I interview for my next GM job”, he’d probably be even better.

by Mr. Dollar Bills on Mar 1, 2010 10:36 PM EST reply actions

And that is exactly why I hate Kiki we wasted an entire year trying to develop Yi and nobody else but Yi. One thing we did accomplish though was crushing our players confidence that’s for sure.

by Mikee21 on Mar 1, 2010 10:46 PM EST reply actions

Kiki wasted a year of everybody’s time for his pet project Yi.

But Thorn let it happen.

by JohnY on Mar 2, 2010 1:00 AM EST reply actions

Not sure how you can say they are only developing Yi. Brook, gets the most minutes, shot attempts, shot attempts/game on the team (tied with Harris for shot attempts/game). Courtney Lee? Gets more minutes than Yi, and about the same shot attempts/game. Terrance Williams? He’s a rookie and is starting to get more time. CDR? Ok…he could use more development, but there are apparent signs of headcase. Everybody else on the team is over 26 years old and has been in the league for 4+ years.

Yi missed a lot of games due to injury…has only about half the minutes that Brook has on the season because of it. They have not been “wasting the entire year developing Yi and nobody else”…

by PhilNYC on Mar 2, 2010 8:54 AM EST reply actions

Mayor climb for the Nets

No more than that, and i think they should remain at the bottom.

since minessota has worst players than us and still have more wins

:D :D :D

by Mr. omG on Mar 2, 2010 9:21 AM EST reply actions

@PhilNYC

We say it’s Yi’s fault, it’s mob rule. Kiki was once quoted of saying he saw potential in Yi. OMG, burn him!

I’ll grab the pitch forks. LOL

The ridiculous thing is most of the posters here don’t even know how play development works. They just saw some pictures with Kiki and Yi doing some drills and Yi starting instead of Boone. lol again.

by malorkayel on Mar 2, 2010 2:12 PM EST reply actions

the only thing, someone here, have interest is to blame Yi

by hahaok on Mar 2, 2010 2:27 PM EST reply actions

it’s like the vince carter thing…tho vince is definitely not the toughest player in the world, he was the nets ironman playing through injuries…one writer says it then another and then the people who know nothing about basketball and cannot think for themselves will say the same thing…vince is soft. mob mentality…

yi is not the toughest player in the world…he is not starter material…but common thinking is that chinese players are soft…one person says it and another person who who know nothing about basketball and cannot think for themselves will say the same thing…then someone will say 19 rebounds “fell on yi’s lap”…etc…
