LeBron to Gotham? Getting Less Likely

LeBron James can't understand why the Nets are 4-47. "They have some good talent, it is hard to believe [their record]," James said Tuesday. And while the King has stopped talking about free agency, there's increasing evidence he's happy where he is, on a team with the NBA's best record. A Cleveland writer argues neither the Nets nor the Knicks are anywhere close to what James wants most: an NBA title.

It was obvious he wasn’t coming here months ago. At least all of that stuff about him being a Net is finally being put to rest

Were the Lakers a title contender before Shaq left the Magic to go to L.A?
Lord.
All it takes it one great player to start to attract the right people..

What y’all have to take into consideration is that these beat reporters or whatever you call them these are opinions. Nobody can tell you want Lebron is thinking except for Lebron himself. We could have easily won this game yesterday if Lebron wasn’t playing. Take Lebron away add moe williams and delonte west and for us add Devin harris and CD-R plus a real coach our team would have easily won.

Whether he stays or goes Cleveland writers want and need him to stay. Who’s going to read their articles when if LBJ leaves? They would be very mediocre without LeBron.

Thats cool, he can continue to lose in the later rounds of the playoffs in Clevland.

Nobody knows anything for sure until he signs on the dotted line. I personally think there is about a 90% chance he resigns in Cleveland (perhaps for just a few more years so the Lebron drama can start up again) but our current record could mean little if we get a John Wall and shed more cap space (Harris) to team Lebron up with a Bosh. Its amazing how well the Cavs are doing even with questionable talent around Lebron. Its a testament to his greatness.

i kinda agree with mikeee21 if we had lebron the nets would have won that game, we have just as much talent as cleveland last night lebron just gives that team an edge. anderson looks incredible with lebron by his side take him out and hes a mere mortal. we just need that one star player (maybe two twith the money we got) and great coach the “czar” and we will be the beast of the east once again
the celts are starting to fall off (players getting old)
in my opinion we have a pretty decent team we just need the one player!

These reporters are scared to death that the King leaves. What they do is they’re calming themselves. They’re not stupid (I hope) to not realize Lebron = 70% of Cavs. On most nights Cavs go as far as Lebron goes. Put Lebron on Knocks or Nets and these two are completely different teams!

What is funny to me is that a Cleveland Writer is writing this article. In 1-2 yrs you have to eliminate Shaq and Big Z from that equation. At point guard for the future you have Gibson, who is really a sg. At power forward for the future you have Varajao and Hickson. Yes you can always pair up Lebron in Cleveland with another star, but this team has no future, The playoffs will be the big test that Lebron will see he can’t do it by himself. What the Nets can offer is a center in Lopez that will be top five for the next 10-12 years. Young supporting cast with descent talent around him. A top four pick in this years draft which is supposed to be one of the best since Lebron was drafted. And last they will have around 22- 25 mil in salary cap. Now who is really built to compete for the next ten years? Lebron is a smart player and loyal. The things that I hope will cross his mind is the future if the team, who they can get in the 2010 free agency, and can he really leave his home town team for another team. I won’t be an easy decision because Lebron looks down to earth not like Kobe. But this humble man has a big decision to make come July 1, 2010.

Sadly and NBA Title is not what LeBron wants most. He is the poster boy for the greedy, spoiled athlete of today. What he wants is to become a billionaire or the the closest thing to it. If he happens to win an NBA Title along the way, that would be gravy for him.
There is a good chance he hooks up with this Russian billionaire if he takes over the Nets or heads to Madison Square Garden and what is still potentially the most lucrative place in the country to be – New York City (under the bright lights of MSG in midtown Manhattan NOT Brooklyn).
LeBron is not a good guy and I would want no part of him if I’m still a Nets fan in the years to come. But saying he cares most about winning a title is just flat-out incorrect.
by Isaac on Feb 10, 2010 11:47 AM EST reply actions
HE did get quoted in saying he wants to be the first NBA player to be a Billionaire. He wants to emulate MJ as much as possible. I’m sure he can learn from Porky about being a young billionaire. Only thing I disagree with you is his quest for a title or to be a fan of his. Lebron prepares to much and practices to much to not want a title. Every player wants to be know as a champion and legend. Maybe Lebron at 38 could careless, but he still has the hunger to be great and a champion.

Just to clarify I wasn’t implying LeBron could care less about winning – that would be foolish. But as opposed to a guy like MJ that you mentioned or especially a Magic Johnson – WINNING isn’t everything for this kid. He wants to “take over the world”. And to him, that means money which comes with power and glory. Winning does become secondary for a person with that kind of character.
I have seen this guy up and close and personal – and it is not impressive the way he carries himself. Even Kobe, for all his problems knows how to present himself in public. LeBron comes off like some kind of punk who thinks he is out at the school yard instead of being an ambassador for a professional sports league.

I don’t have to read the story to know LeBron isn’t leaving Cleveland after this year. However, to the disappointment of the Cleveland writers, he will probably only stay for one more year and then re-evaluate.
If he wins a championship, Shaq may retire and then Cleveland will have to get another big man.
LeBron may consider Nets for 2011 after seeing how they do next year, and see Barclays going up. However, all is conditional on LeBron having at least one championship before considering Nets.
It is the Knicks who should be worrying as they will have to use much of their cap space just to re-sign David Lee (which I hope doesn’t happen).
As much as I would like to see VC finally win a championship, Nets fans should realize that Cleveland must win this year to hope for LeBron in 2011.
by jerry25 on Feb 10, 2010 1:04 PM EST reply actions
@Jerry: That’s not a smart of you viewing the whole situation. You would have to hope the Cavs don’t win this year, otherwise LeBron will resign with Cleveland. What surpries me most here is after watching last nights game, you could tell Cleveland has zero depth on their roster compared to ours. The roster is zilch. Take away LeBron’s 30 something points, and it looks like a blowout. I would laugh at LeBron if he does resign with Cleveland.

This cleveland writer needs to think outside of the ohio box.
Have you ever been to cleveland? There is nothing sexy about cleveland.
There is nothing to do in Cleaveland. There is no night life downtown.
I lived in cleveland for 2 months. Even the fast food retaraunts close at 10 pm downtown. So cleveland is building a casino… whoopeeedooo!
NYC is not just a city its a state of mind, as Jayz would put it.
Also the Cavaliers are not a lock for the championship.
Orlando is playing very well and if VC stays hot the Magic could beat Cleveland very easily. Remember Cleveland only won 1 game in that series and it was a last second shot that got the win. Shaq is not the answer either.
The Knicks suck.Period. At least NJ has an excuse… No coach, injured players, bad management. The Nets future is a lot brighter than the Knicks.
A team of Lebron,DH,wall,Lopez and 1 decent PF and the Nets could be right there with Orl and Bos. Boston turned its team around in 1 summer.
The Nets could have the biggest turnaround in the history of the NBA, even without Lebron. What young rising star does Cleveland have to play with Lebron…. JJ Hickson? Woooooooo I’m scared

While LeBron James is a great player, I don’t want to have to root for him. He comes across as an arrogant jerk. Also, I don’t like just buying the best player and winning a championship that way.
But I’ll take the next best player, or close to, and be happy to root for Dwyane Wade.
For me, ideally the team would build with Lopez, Wall at the point, Lee as shooting/slashing guard who defends well, a consistent 3-point threat who can start (not Yi) at small forward, and a enforcer/rebounder at power forward.

He was never going to leave the Cavs from the start. I don’t get why many still think he will go somewhere else after this season. Even if he does become a free agent, the chances are he will stay rather than move. The Cavs will most likely do terrible the second he goes. They can’t even do well when he was injured and unable to play. The Cavs management probably considers Lebron James both untradable and untouchable.
by Tal Barzilai on Feb 10, 2010 3:02 PM EST reply actions
Ha you’re coming at the Knicks saying they suck. They don’t have an excuse? How about the fact that the current regime inherited a mess of a roster with no cap ace? They have young talent and they have more than four wins. IF they can get rid of Jeffries, which looks feasible at this point, they can resign Lee and sign Lebron.
The Nets are 4-47, don’t have much that is attractive to a player of Lebrons character, don’t have a coach, don’t know where they’ll be playing for the next two seasons, and have a gm who isn’t close to as good as he used to be. He’s staying in Cleveland, but the Nets aren’t in the picture

Well, damn! I agree with Issac on something! I don’t want a hired gun on the Nets. I kinda always felt that way about Kidd, too. I want to draft the Next Great Player, or trade for a great prospect and he will develop as a Net from the get go.
by John at the Jersey Shore on Feb 10, 2010 3:48 PM EST reply actions
The Cavs has to win a championship this year. There is no doubt about it. Do I want LeBron on the Nets?… Yes! However, looking at the options on the Cavs they have to bring in another center. What Center is out there that Lebron can get in the next 1-2 yrs. He is going to need a center to make it all work to win multiple championships. Also, what Assets will the Cavs have to make a trade for that center? They are set for PF but not even for PG. If he wants to get in the Kobe range of being a WINNING superstar he will have to look at the whole picture. That is why the Nets have a good (not great) chance to pry him away. Seriously, looking at the Cavs salaries structure and who will be free agents in the near future who can they bring in to help him out. And don’t give me Jamison… he is getting old.

Don’t forget about the CBA that is looming that will be against him getting his money.
by Chuck D on Feb 10, 2010 3:59 PM EST reply actions
Chuck D. agreed, but for 2010, doesn’t LeBron have to make his decision to return to Cleveland, by the end of June?
He wouldn’t know the outcome of the other free agents, so that is why 2011 is most likely. People need to be more specific with their LeBron predictions.
I’ll bet Cleveland would like to figure out a way to trade for a very high draft pick so as to get Cousins. LeBron is the one person who could tame Cousins.

Whoa, Whoa hold on there John at the Shore. I might not like lebron and I never want to see him as a Net but please don’t group him with Kidd. Jason Kidd was the savior of this franchise until Ratner arrived. And while getting LeBron would likely involve some dirty back-door dealing, the trade to get Kidd was sheer brilliance on the part of Rod Thorn. One of the best trades in NBA history to be sure and I will never forget all the great memories Kidd gave us while in New Jersey.

on a sidenote, why would you possibly want to see Vince “finally win a championship”. If he does it will be on the backs of Dwight Howard and his other teammates. He has proven time and time again that he can’t be counted on when it really counts in the postseason.

I was on Youtube this morning and I was watching a video of Lebron James when he was drafted. The fans at New York booed Lebron and even called him “overrated.” When you think about that and now, New York fans are eating their words. If I were Lebron, I wouldn’t want to come here. Just my opinion. Wow, it’s incredible how quickly the reactions changed after Lebron’s first game against the Kings.

@Bballboy456
Have to disagree with ya about the talent comparison between the Knicks and Nets. Lopez, Harris, C. Lee, and Terrence Williams is a whole lot more attractive to a free agent player AND free agent coach than David Lee, Gallinari and Chandler. If it were only about players, the Nets have the edge. Unfortunately, the Nets play at the swamp which has hurt the organization for years. Had the Rock been around when Kidd arrived and had that team played there, you would’ve seen an entirely different and more exciting BBall atmosphere around this team. But we are where we are and it is what it is!!
by wondering_aloud on Feb 10, 2010 5:57 PM EST reply actions
The Nets only have a 25% chance of even having a slim chance to get LeBron because without John Wall we’re just simply not attractive enough to sign James after this disgrace of a season. In other words, don’t get your hopes up for LeBron in New Jersey.
