Winderman: Wade Could Climb Over a Wall and Land in Jersey

Ira Winderman is a Heat beat writer. He knows his stuff...including how disappointed Dwyane Wade is with his team. He suggests that if the Nets get John Wall in the Draft, Wade could be attracted by a future with a rich owner, a new arena and a young core. What does Wade say about this? "I think it's known around the league that there will be an upgrade in New Jersey. I don't think that ever was a question."

I love D-Wade’s game a lot more than Lebron. Call me crazy but that’s just how i feel. I really hope that this awful season turns into a great draft pick come june.

by claud on Feb 6, 2010 5:32 PM EST reply actions

Either Dwade or Lebron will be great for this team.

by Hex on Feb 6, 2010 5:32 PM EST reply actions

Wades leading a team who has nodody aroudn them. We have lopez, wall, harris, CDR, williams, tons of potential, and pethaps another FA to offer.

with wade we are in contention again, but were still not in an elite class. Lebron would have more of an impact, but i would lvoe to have wade.

if this is what it turns out to be were in championship contention, if not were not. im led to believing that lebron would join the nets if wade does so:

Wall
Wade
Bron Bron
A ligit Pf, perhaps ryan anderoson
Brook

Bench: Harris(thats right!), CDR, Twill, amongst others

Wade is not leaving Miami. Period, end of story.

by Tin Man on Feb 6, 2010 5:43 PM EST reply actions

I’d rather take Wade than LeBron. Just me.

by canofan42 on Feb 6, 2010 5:45 PM EST reply actions

@i

your a funny guy i must say

by Andy on Feb 6, 2010 5:45 PM EST reply actions

@Tin Man
please elaborate and elucidate.

by Net Income on Feb 6, 2010 5:47 PM EST reply actions

Then why I remember Wade said he is only exciting when he plays the Nets and Harris, not about being a Net?

by jarkid on Feb 6, 2010 5:51 PM EST reply actions

I think Wade is likely to stay with Miami as he and the city are a big attraction to free agents and they have a lot of cape space. However, Wade is from Chicago and I think that the Bulls are his most likely team should he decide to leave Miami.

It remains a possibility that Wade, LeBron and Bosh all play together next season in a bid to be the best team of all time and you would have to think that if the Nets land Wall and with Lopez already that the Nets with the richest owner in pro sports and Yi’s access to the Chinese market would certainly put them in the best position.

by Yi Of Little Faith on Feb 6, 2010 5:57 PM EST reply actions

or as Wade said of the Nets in that article: “They are attractive because of the quote New York, New York unquote market.”

Wade has not had the easiest time in Miami the last few years, with a bitter divorce, business failings. He may want to reinvent himself.

by Net Income on Feb 6, 2010 6:05 PM EST reply actions

Favors had a solid game today…imagine harris, wade, a SF, Favors, Lopez…AH!

by Andy on Feb 6, 2010 6:21 PM EST reply actions

@Net Income

I don’t have time to list the 25 million tax free reasons why Wade won’t leave Miami :)

Money aside, how many people do you know that would chose to spend their winter in NJ over Miami?

Oh yeah, he is a basketball god for life down there and he leaves for the Clippers of the east?

Ira Winderman is a good writer but he needed to fill space so he wote an article full of speculation with no facts to back it up.

Move along, there’s nothing to see here. Everyone get back to the great CDR debate.

by Tin Man on Feb 6, 2010 6:23 PM EST reply actions

@ Tin Man

So you’re suggesting Wade is gonna stay in Miami because he likes the weather? And maybe Lebron will play for the Clippers for LA’s weather.

by Jason on Feb 6, 2010 6:26 PM EST reply actions

@Jason

No, I’m stating that Wade is staying in Miami because they can pay him more money. I’m suggesting that even if the Nets were on even footing with the Heat, why in the world would he leave South Beach for Jersey? Yes, quality of life is important to most people

by Tin Man on Feb 6, 2010 6:31 PM EST reply actions

@ Tim Man you do have a point.

by 1milord on Feb 6, 2010 6:38 PM EST reply actions

May 18, 2010 is literally the most important day of my life, minus the day I was born (May 17, coincidently).

by NET$MAN on Feb 6, 2010 6:40 PM EST reply actions

Fascinating article. I’ve essentially ruled out Wade or LeBron coming to the Nets, but maybe that deserves reconsideration.

This is the type of article that reinforces my thought that we ought not do anything at the trade deadline to trade for an Amare or Iguodala. We’ve spent all this time and energy acquiring cap space to get ready for the 2010 off season. Let’s not panic now and blow that hardfought cap space. Just have patience and see what happens – you never know in life.

by A.S. on Feb 6, 2010 6:41 PM EST reply actions

“Yes, quality of life is important to most people”

@Tin

So is the quality of a team especially if you are an NBA superstar. I am not saying he is coming or staying, but when you look into the near future, the Nets offer better assets then the HEAT can.

by JJ on Feb 6, 2010 6:43 PM EST reply actions

Well if Proky wants to spend why not sign LeBron AND Wade….AND Bosh……AND Gay as the 6th man?

Wall-Harris-Dooling
Wade-Lee-TWill
LeBron-Gay-Hayes
Bosh-Yi-Humphries
Lopez-Draft Pick – Draft Pick

ooooh yeah

by Will J on Feb 6, 2010 6:45 PM EST reply actions

@tim man

 I think at this point he just wants to win. An Nba player travels all over the country and rarely do they stay in their teams state in the offseason. The quality of life in Nj is not bad at all. It might not be south beach but there are more opportunities for him to make money due to the fact that the market is bigger here. I would really love if Wade came to Nj because he is a great player. More clutch than Lebron i think.

by Hex on Feb 6, 2010 6:46 PM EST reply actions

This article is a load of bovine excrement. Are you kidding me??

by Mr Dollar Bills on Feb 6, 2010 6:46 PM EST reply actions

Wade’s like 28. Not that we could land him, but a bit too old for max contracting.

by Antoine on Feb 6, 2010 6:47 PM EST reply actions

Do any of you guys remember when Wade said that he would love to play with Dhoward because of how exciting it can be to play with a big man? That to me says enough of his state of mind. Who wouldn’t want to play with Lopez? Lopez to me will be a better big man then Dhoward.

by Hex on Feb 6, 2010 6:49 PM EST reply actions

@ Antoine,

28 isnt bad especialy with a 5 year max or even a 6 year max. That is 33 or 34 when the contract ends and at that time he will be an expiring contract which can be used as trade bait if he isnt performing to his contracts worth. Espcecially with Mikhail at the helm, money should be no issue for our savior :)

by danxcr on Feb 6, 2010 6:51 PM EST reply actions

@Will J – um, because there’s a salary cap.

by A.S. on Feb 6, 2010 6:52 PM EST reply actions

Agree with Tin Man. “This is My House”. He will try to pressure Miami to make the team better. He has a championship, so he doesn’t have the same desire to win as LeBron.

Nice though to see a sports writer thinking in terms of the Nets point of view, for a change.

The sports writers continue to put the pressure on the Nets to take Wall with the #1 pick.

Anyone able to watch the KY game today?
I see Wall was 2-9 with 4 assists, 4 boards, 0 stls. in 30 minutes, in blowout over LSU.

Meanwhile DeMarcus Cousins had 19pts. 13 boards in 20 minutes. How is Derrick Favors a better choice for a top 4 pick that Cousins? DeMarcus is NBA ready (on the court at least!).

I don’t doubt that Wall will become better than Devin Harris with his lightning fast moves off the dribble and his 43" standing jump. However, that could take a few years.

Maybe Nets are better off with Evan Turner. I can’t wait to see some FA say, “I may sign with Nets if they get Turner”.

by jerry25 on Feb 6, 2010 6:55 PM EST reply actions

@ Tin man,

I know florida is a tax free state, but NJ is not as bad as people make it out to be. We have NYC right across the bridge or tunnel (broadway plays, concerts, events); we have atlantic city (if you want to go to the casinos or shows); if you want to ski or snowboard we have camelback in PA. Everything is pretty much in reach.

Also look at simmons, he goes back to chicago in the off-season, harris goes back to wisconsin, brook goes back to california, Yi goes to china. When you get paid millions of dollars, it wont hurt to go back and spend the off-season where your heart desires.

by danxcr on Feb 6, 2010 6:56 PM EST reply actions

@jerry25

I personally like Wesley Johnson out of Syracuse. He is the complete package. He plays great defense; and knows where to find the weak spots in defenses to get open in offense.

In all honesty, i have not had enough time to watch turner play so that could change :)

by danxcr on Feb 6, 2010 6:59 PM EST reply actions

Wade and Lebron are friends. They were dreaming someday they will play together. What if. Money? They maybe willing to take a little cut. That will be something.

by Edd on Feb 6, 2010 7:08 PM EST reply actions

I don’t have to time to argue with people the merits of living in New Jersey so lets cut to the chase. Please list the free agents that had bird their rights and left a team offering them a max contract.

@jerry25

Wall is now entering the overrated zone. He’ll be a good NBA player, maybe a great one but he is not the 2nd coming of Michael Jordan like some are making him out to be.

Favors is ranked ahead of Cousins by most because he is year younger and is more athletic

by Tin Man on Feb 6, 2010 7:13 PM EST reply actions

nets should trade number 1 pick

by amin on Feb 6, 2010 7:26 PM EST reply actions

This is so far fetched just like the other post from that idiot reporter that said we should trade our 2010 top draft pick for Amare. LOL!!!!!

Wade would have to say I want to be a NET for me to believe this stuff.

by SIC on Feb 6, 2010 7:29 PM EST reply actions

And to people saying that Wade will come to the Nets because it gives him a better chance to win

Heat
Wade
Beasley
Max type Free Agent (Bosh, Stoudamire, Lee)

Nets
Wade
Lopez
Wall (maybe)

It’s certainly arguable who may have the better core (I’d say the Heat) but it certainly doesn’t give the Nets an advantage especially coming off this season

by Tin Man on Feb 6, 2010 7:36 PM EST reply actions

I’d prefer D Wade to Lebron on a person level even though Lebron is a better player and younger. I prefer D Wade but Lebron would be much better for the franchise. I wish we could get either. Do we believe in miracles?

by Shea23 on Feb 6, 2010 7:38 PM EST reply actions

harris 6th man of the year nxt season. wall and wade best backcourt in the nba nxt season.

by tu vieja on Feb 6, 2010 8:02 PM EST reply actions

Getting the #1 pick seems too good to be true for the league (just like Lebron going to Cleveland was.) The NBA doesn’t want Wade in Minnesota.

Stern will make sure the Nyets get Wall!!

by Fox Mulder on Feb 6, 2010 8:37 PM EST reply actions

@danxcr
I like Wesley Johnson too, for SF. He may be a turnoff though to LeBron in 2011, when LBJ comes out of Cleveland.
Also, would eliminate Nets going after Rudy Gay.

If WJ was moved from Syracuse to the Nets tomorrow, they would win at least 11 games – He IS NBA ready today.

I would prefer though to sure up backcourt and PF this offseason. Turner is Also NBA ready and would give Nets more flexibility.

@Tin Man
Agree Wall is overrated, even though he too should become an All Star some day. I just hope Thorn knows he is overrated, because if Nets don’t get 1st pick, I hope someone else takes Wall and not Turner or Wesley Johnson.

I still think Cousins is NBA ready (a Beast) and Favors is a project, who’s ranking has been dropping. I also worry about Cousins for other reasons, which may be why he isn’t ranked in top 5 at this time.

by jerry25 on Feb 6, 2010 9:16 PM EST reply actions

@jerry25

Ya i need to watch more of Ohio State games to get a fair eval on turner. Its just that W. Johnson reminds me of a young Larry Nance. He has good standing springs and just has a nose for the ball. But its amazing that he had to transfer to Syracuse for this to happen, i wonder if his former coach in Iowa State is kickin himself for not seeing the talent on this kid. He just has a nice BBIQ and a feel. And the “feel” part of the game is hard to teach.

by danxcr on Feb 6, 2010 9:58 PM EST reply actions

I am really intrgued by Cousins, but is he what we need to draft? Scouts say he has no heart, and when I was watching a Kentucky game a few nights ago I saw a lack of hustle and bonehead plays. There’s no doubt he has talent, but is his heart, or lack of, what we need? Remember, drafting Swat (although not as talented) got us in this mess. And at this point, the Nets are in no way situated to take on a risk like Cousins. The same applies for Favors, who is thought of as a project. Turner or Wall is a must. I have not seen Wesley Johnson, but I have heard positive things about him.

by Jason on Feb 6, 2010 10:00 PM EST reply actions

I still think Wall is the obvious #1 pick but this isn’t a year with a sure thing franchise player since all the top players have question marks.

Johnson – He’s 22 yrs old so he should look like a man playing amongst boys…because he literally is.

Turner – Can he play point in the NBA? Because if he can’t he’s not worth a top 5 pick.

Favors – Biggest upside in the draft but also the best chance of being a bust. Only 18 but he’s going to have to show some development on offense before the end of the year.

Cousins – Has head and body issues. If he doesn’t start taking conditioning seriously he could wind up being the next Eddy Curry. I don’t think the Nets take him because he is going to be a center in the NBA and I can’t see how him and Lopez can play together.

by Tin Man on Feb 7, 2010 12:22 AM EST reply actions

Who says that having DWade will just put us in contention, but not yet in elite class? ARE KIDDING ME!? Have you forgotten the year when Wade single-handedly gave the Miami Heat its first championship?!!!

If we can have DWade with Wall, Lopez, Harris, Lee, Humphries, Yi, and Williams to support him … I definitely think that this is a stronger team than the Miami Heat team that played with DWade in that championship year! Don’t forget, signing DWade doesn’t stop there, the team still has enough room to sign another elite FA to add to those names that I already mentioned above!!!

So, the NETS will have:
Lopez
Humphries
Yi
DWade
elite FA (Amare?)
Lee
Harris
CDR
Williams
Dooling?

by kuljo on Feb 7, 2010 2:06 AM EST reply actions

ooops I left-out John Wall ( if the ball bounces our way)

by kuljo on Feb 7, 2010 2:07 AM EST reply actions

The best explanation of this is it is an attempt to put pressure on ownership i MIA and maybe it is just venting over the immaturity of certain teammates particularly Beasley.. The economics of MIA over NJ are enormous. If he is going thru a divorce, no way does he give up any salary or choose to pay state taxes. And the climate is a big difference, and they will have room to add talent next year too. Finally CHI could be in a position to add him and LBJ next year if they move Salmons and Hinrich.

by mt57 on Feb 7, 2010 8:05 AM EST reply actions

Not for nothing, but, atleast, New Jersey has beaches and is next to the biggest city in the country, thus, Wade would not be so out of his element. And yes, I do know you can’t compare Miami’s beaches to New Jersey’s, but, they are not so bad either. I can see Wade leaving Miami. It will help us imensely if we get John Wall to attract the bigger name free agents.

by JustinNJ on Feb 7, 2010 12:48 PM EST reply actions

I hope we do end up landing John Wall. However, we’ll be stacked in the SG position with Harris and Wade; so in a case like this, it would only make sense to trade Harris.

K Dooling/Wall
DWade/CLee
Yi/CDR
Stoudemire/Humphries
Lopez/Humphries

Looks like a team that can rack up 54-58 wins and take it in the finals. The team would be scary in the frontcourt.
