Game 50 - Nets @ Pistons - Saturday, February 5, 7:30

In a quirk of the NBA schedule, the Nets play the Pistons for the second time in five days on Saturday, with both teams coming off the first half of a back-to-back. While the Nets played the mighty Celtics close in Boston, the Pistons were beaten soundly by the lowly Pacers in Indy, down by 31 in the fourth. The Nets were healthy leaving Boston. Josh Boone hasn't played in a week and was inactive vs. Boston.

why is Harris shoot so many 3?

Post Yi more down low and drive …not from the 3 line and drive…

Apparently, Harris doesn’t have confidence in Yi. There is a legitimate basis for him (and others) to have that attitude.

Harris also doesn’t have much confidence in Kiki as a coach, and nearly everyone would agree with that assessment (probably Kiki himself).
At least Harris is mature enough not to let his feelings public, unlike CDR.

There is way too much hatred-type remarks at this site, but that is different from the constructive remarks about why a player such as Yi, would be better off as a role player on a contending team.

On a team such as Orlando, Yi would be able to get away with not being a good defender, with Howard to back him up. Just hitting a few nice turn-around jumpers, get some boards and intimidate some shots, due to his length, would be adequate.

With 12 days left before the deadline, lets hope Thorn can get something in return for Yi. Now that Rod apparently has CDR to work with, maybe we’ll be hearing about a 2 or 3 team deal soon.

Nets management must know that they are going to get a solid PF for next year, so Yi wouldn’t get much PT (because of Hump). Might as well get something at this time and free the $4 million for the new player or free agency.

Seems too obvious.

Speaking of power forwards, did anyone catch David Lee’s performance in another losing effort?

12 of 18 for 32 points, 15 boards and 3 assists.
DLee is forced to guard the opposing Big Man.

I truly believe that if DLee was playing for the Nets, these past 6 games (instead of Yi), Nets would be 6-0. They were all winnable games. Then everyone would be saying how good New Jersey really was.

Other than LeBron being our SF and maybe DWade our SG, I can’t imagine another player addition who would have more of an impact on winning that would DLee. Since the other two won’t be available, DLee, IMO, is the most valuable realistic free agent. Not getting DLee at any cost, would be a failure of the offseason. Otherwise, Nets would have to hope for Boozer, or Amare and his suspect knees and poor rebounding.

The Knicks apparently are confident that they can do as they please this offseason, because I hear nothing about trading DLee and getting something in return? Clearly the Knicks aren’t making the playoffs. Then why are they so confident??

While DLee is clearly an upgrade on what we have, he is not such a good defender. I think the Nets need to do a bit better at the 4 spot. His numbers are so big b/c there ain’t much else on that team, especially if Harrington is not playing. W/ Lopez, Lee would have less scoring chances. Would I want him over Yi? Every day of the week. And we could do worse than DLee, but I just don’t see the Knicks letting him go and I don’t see anyone offering big money since DLee is on a bad team and his numbers would not be replicated on a good team. He too, IMO, is a role player.

Honestly, why isn’t Boone playing? Yi and Humphries on the floor at the same time has not been working. Boone (or at least Battie) should come in off the bench for Lopez

by J-Kay on Feb 6, 2010 11:12 AM EST reply actions

@ J-Kay

I agree. Boone never had an awful game. He was rebounding and getting tip-backs for others to get the offensive board – he really wasn’t that bad, and his defense is way better than Yi’s. It’s been such a struggle with Boone fitting into the rotation going way back into the LFrank days.

by Will J on Feb 6, 2010 11:18 AM EST reply actions

Josh Boone is a decent role player and I don’t understand why he’s completely fallen out of the rotation. He could give 10-12 good minutes as the 4th string big man.

@geo
You haven’t named a player who Nets could get (without trading Lopez to get) who is better than DLee. You mention he would get less numbers if he was playing alongside Lopez. However, I have in mind to use in at backup Center for at least 10 minutes per game.

Actually the Knicks are a better team than recent years, yet Lee’s contribution is also getting better.

DLee has to go against bigger men than himself, so its not a fair test of how he would defend at PF Compared with Yi, I would expect at least a +12 points net (offense-defense) per 30 minutes, not to mention assists to Brook. Also Nets Boards might increase by 5 per game with DLee.

Of course I don’t expect Lee to get 20 pts. a game and for Lopez to continue with 19 per game if playing together. If that was true then Nets would be one of the best in NBA with just 1 addition.

However, just answer the question how Nets would have done these past 6 games with DLee instead of Yi? I say 6-0.
If you agree, then everyone should stop using not-so-good defense as an excuse not to beat any offer from the Knicks and to have Proky “wine and dine” DLee. Seems that it is Lee’s decision which team he would rather play for.

Lately Kiki hasn’t been using most of the players with expiring contracts (not coming back) who don’t seem to have any value – Battie, Simmons, Boone (apparently) and Hassel plays as needed. That’s what the fans have been asking all along.

Hayes is the exception (maybe they are showcasing him before deadline). The fans want Dooling back another year, and maybe Kiki agrees.

by jerry25 on Feb 6, 2010 12:41 PM EST reply actions

There is one player Nets could get, who would be a Beast and score inside. He might be more valuable than DLee after one year.

However, Nets fans are reluctant to take a chance with DeMarcus Cousins (don’t know if he could play alongside of Brook) even if Nets drafted 4th and Wall and Turner were already taken. In that case, we had better scout Cousins carefully these next 7 weeks.

Nets Management may still need to consider that possibility and where to go in free agency.

How is Lopez better then David Lee!? HA. Lee plays within himself, Lopez, far from it.

by Tim on Feb 6, 2010 4:23 PM EST reply actions

@Tim
Who compared DLee to BLopez? Wasn’t me.

If you watched Knick games this past 6 weeks, you would know that DLee is an All Star (on an otherwise bad team) and may still get the nod he deserves.

The younger BLopez is also approaching All Star status (also on an otherwise Awful team).

DLee should be the Nets starting PF, and as Knicks fans know, he now has an excellent outside shot. He would do fine alongside Brook, but he could ALSO be utilized so that he is playing at times when BLopez is on the bench.
