Game 59 - Nets vs. Wizards - Sunday, February 28, 6:00

The Nets have their best shot at a winning streak Sunday when the remade Wizards come to IZOD but Courtney Lee, one of the heroes in Boston, is questionable. The Wiz are 3-3 since trading away Caron Butler, Antawn Jamison and Brendan Haywood. Andray Blatche has been filling the stat sheets since, averaging 25 ppg, 11.2 rpg and shooting 56.8%. Lee's averaging 15.5 points in February, Devin Harris 20.5.

Have you seen this team’s roster? Their top players are Blatche, Foye, and Miller. It would be an upset if the Wizards beat the Nets!

Boykins killed us last time.. and it’s time to win again.

Lopez played decent for 42 minutes without foul trouble, besides the good performances from Dooling, DLee and Hump.
That was the key.
With Wizards being off today and Nets having to travel home,
Washington should be favorite unless CLee plays (which I doubt).

Wizards roster really isn’t that bad, they can’t match our top players without their stars but they’re pretty deep. We have like 2-3 awesome players, 1 sort of awesome in C. Lee but he may be out then like 1-2 more guys who can be anything from awesome to a non-factor and then like crap. They don’t have any awesome players but they don’t have a huge drop off in talent level either. Most of their players could be starters/at worse solid rotation players on good teams.

Blatche has really taken off since the trade. He’s going to turn Yi inside out tomorrow

the wizards are a very talented team. Blatche and thornton are no slouches.
i will be estatic if we win 2 in a row. I am aiming for 10 wins for the season. I will be pleased.

Boykins 69 points 29 assists 15 steals

We are going to have to play hard to win this one, the Wizards have a ton of guys that can contribute
Yi just needs to sit down. Start Boone, bring in the Hump. Let Yi watch twiddle his thumbs, that will be more productive than watching him embarrass himself.

Blatche always kills us and he’s gonna play like 40 minutes. We are screwed if Yi is guarding him

I really do find it sort of hard to believe that the commenters here are treating playing the Wiz at home like going to Cleveland without Lopez or Harris to take on the Cavs. The Wizards suck. THey’re awful. Blatche will score 25 points, but what else? Boykins will hit some shots? The Nets are going to come in with confidence and I have a really good feeling they’ll win the game, but probably by single-digits.
The Knicks played their worst game of the season by FAR last night and still managed to beat the Wizards. Courtney Lee playing will REALLY make this game easier for us to win. If he doesn’t play, the game will be very close.
But don’t worry, Blatche is not going to go for 80 points and send Yi to the emergency room with shock and depression. We were saying the same stuff about Garnett and the Celtics. If Yi is being torn apart, Humphries and Boone will come in and help shut him down. Dont be suprised if we double Blatche. Harris needs to shut down Foye. I hope we won’t be TOO tired. Would suck if we come out flat and lose by 20. i dont see it happening.

I wonder if Kansas and KY will stay #1,#2 despite losses?
Maybe Syracuse game tonight will be for #1 if they win big?
James Anderson is ranked #13 by NBADraft. He would be a nice wing if Nets don’t get one with 1st pick. Would need to trade up.
Wesley Johnson still a possible top 4 pick, so tune in at 9PM on ESPN.

@Jim, the wizards suck and are awful. But we kind of suck and are awful too, in fact to historic proportions. Plus there’s Kiki’s in game management, are you positive if Yi is sucking it up he’ll bring in Humphries or Boone, I mean Boone didn’t get in at all this game and their front court was killing us, and if he does who’s to say he doesn’t try and sub Yi into center to get Lopez some rest of the same time. Obviously today was a big win, but we’re not 6-alot by accident.

just went to nbadraft.net and it has us taking Paul George with the 23rd pick.(of course depends on Mavs) But man o man is that guy explosive. He litarally jumps out the gym(showed him doing 360s, bwtn leg jams, hand in the basket like Vince did.) 6’8 185 ( i know a little skinney but the guy looks more athletic then Durant) and plays SF for Fresno St. The man can shoot lights out and potental is through the roof. So go check him out. Btw it also has us tacking Wall 1st and Sheron Collins 31st. Why I dont know? (T Will, Wall, Devin Harris, Collins, Dooling) Guess that means Dooling and Harris gone???
by Spider Man on Feb 27, 2010 6:51 PM EST reply actions
Bring on Turner!!! I think we can get a steal with the second pick and really start rebuilding. I expect a win if Boone and Hump get to play meaningful minutes because there real thin on the inside, maybe we can control the boards. I also expect Brook to get 30 tomorrow.
by Atronic on Feb 27, 2010 7:04 PM EST reply actions
@Spider Man, nbadraft.net doesn’t take team need into account until after the season, it’s basically a ranking of players draft stock not the teams they actually expect to take them.

@ gina
understood i figured that cause it does not have Ed Davis. Its too early
by Spider Man on Feb 27, 2010 7:34 PM EST reply actions
Btw did anybody see Evan Turner today. 8-11 19pts 11rebs 8ast 1 block and 1 steal(i think) WOW I Would love to have him. He did have 8 turnovers though. HE seems like how Micheal Beasley was but just a better ball handler and can shoot threes. Plus he is a leader and not for playing games. Beasley has no heart.
by Spider Man on Feb 27, 2010 7:44 PM EST reply actions
It had Ed Davis a few weeks ago but he’s out for like 5 more weeks with a knee injury. I doubt he comes out now it’s going to kill his stock.

If Kiki was smart, he would start Boone because he is a fresh body, and also give Hump big minutes.
Wouldn’t mind seeing CDR and TWill start if CLee doesn’t play.
Kiki needs to shake things up in order to win without rest.
Enjoyed Knicks loss again. Darn – McGrady hurt his surgically repaired knee. I was hoping he would make a good impression and Knicks would bring him back for over $8 million.
Knicks would have to spend about $22 million of their cap space just to field a team as bad as their present squad (LOL)
@Atronic
I predict by this week, we will be start seeing reports that Nets should take Evans if they get the 1st pick.
All that counts is that Thorn knows that.
Syracuse should be #1, but there would be a big drop off if Nets had to take Wesley Johnson.

Rondo 17 assists 13pts. 5-9 attempts Harris 23pts @6-16 attempts 5 assists.
In the Eyes of Danny Ainge, Harris for Rondo STRAIGHT UP is a doable trade and can even save him a couple of Buck$$.
Nets Fans should see a renaissance of sorts. The second coming of the Kidd era.
Ainge Silenced his critiques after they won with Rondo for Drafting him instead more M Williams but Will have an “I told you so” moment feelings again after parting with Rondo for DH which will be in Vain because Rondo will stop Ainge Celtics with his Crew in Newark.
UPGRADE THE POINT GUARD POSITION WITH A PROVEN LEADER, not with a rookie experiment (Wall!!!) WALL will start his career with an “ALL ABOUT MYSELF” attitude because he doesn’t see the Nets as a contender.
However a lineup consisting of
RONDO DOOLING
C.LEE TURNER
J.JOHNSON CDR
D.LEE Hump YI
B.Lo BOONE
WILL BRING US BACK TO 02-03 Glory Years.
DRAFT Wall Only if we get Turner and Next years Unprotected First Round.

Well seeing as we are now the third best team in the conference, following a one game form streak, this should be no problem!
by Scott on Feb 28, 2010 5:02 AM EST reply actions
@Mel… supposedly all summer the celtics were trying to pull that trade off. I don’t know how i feel about Rondo. The guy is the worst defender in the league. PGs absolutely him because he is so undersized. But he is efficient and unselfish. Also he plays with heart and is developing a jump shot. (Anyone watch the horse game all star weekend? He hit 13 3’s in a row) But there are always rumors of him being immature. I really am up in the air about him. All i know is I would be more than satisfied with signing both David Lee and Rudy Gay for 6 yrs 70 mill. Both with heavy back ends of the deal. (Pay them 9 mill in 2010) Also draft Turner, Paul George, and Dexter Pittman. Resign Boone for cheap and trade Yi for scraps.
Devin/Dooling/Twill
Lee/Turner
Gay/CDR/(Twill)
Lee/Hump/George
Brook/Boone/Pittman
Continue developing Twill, Lee and Turner by working them hard at practice. George and Pittman too.
This team would be a 43-48 win team. No superstars needed.
Any thoughts?

@Gina, I agree, may be people are getting ahead of themselfs because we got our biggest and longest wining streak of the season!
by Marco on Feb 28, 2010 5:21 AM EST reply actions
Not to be cruel but I really hate the insistence on signing Joe Johnson. If the. Hawks don’t resign him expect knicks to give him max deal. All I heard for 2 seasons was people wanting to dump vc. Yet vc is much better than jj and after a year everyone will want to get rid of jj. That will be a horrible signing for whoever shows him the money.

We need to play Hassell
Trenton is just so good at slowing down the game when it needs to be done and knowing how to win.
We play well with him whether its on defense or offense.
Dwayne Wade 3 pointer was just defended as well as it could

“Rajon Rondo is the worst defender in the league” Wow. Um, yeah wow. “Rajon Rondo is undersized” Rondo has a 6’8 wing-span. I don’t know how I would feel about a Rondo-Harris swap, I would have to put some thought into it.

paul george is 180 lbs far from a POWER forward. but he looks good
by Spider Man on Feb 28, 2010 11:59 AM EST reply actions
Rondo is like 6ft 160 lbs. He may have a huge wingspan which allows him to play a gambling type of D. Look at stats of opposing PGs against him though. I just don’t know if Rondo in a situation where he is something other than the 4th option on the court would be any good. I didn’t like the guy in college. I never even gave him a thought before Boston got good (yes i know he was a rookie). I just think I would rather keep Devin

Headed to the Meadowlands tonight. Really hope CDR continues to get minutes and Boone gets some as well. This is a must-win if we have any hope of avoiding the all-time worst record. Hopefully they don’t take the Wizards lightly after the upset yesterday.
by Isaac on Feb 28, 2010 1:49 PM EST reply actions
@Bruce
Definitely want to go for Turner, but odds are against getting him, because I think he will be everyone’s #1 pick soon. If Nets get Turner, the future is bright.
Have to wait until after draft before considering trading Harris.
Definitely DLee should be first choice, once LeBron opts into his extra year with Cleveland. Would bring many new Nets fans along, within time – Yormarket would like that.
Knicks would have to spend over 22 million just to field a team as miserable as this years (winning a little more than 1/3 games).
Going for RGay depends on whether Nets want to wait another year to try for LeBron or Carmelo in 2011.
Another direction would be to trade up to get another top pick and take Cousins (moving Lopez to his college position of PF). That would preserve cap space and would attract LeBron THIS year.

I really hope we’ll get another one. We must beat the Wizards. I also hope Lee is available. Good to see CDR playing again by the way.
