Battie Likely Buyout Candidate?

Buried in round-ups of March 1 waiver candidates on NBA.com and Yahoo! Sports are one line notes that Tony Battie may be bought out by the Nets this weekend. Art Garcia of NBA.com writes, "Tony Battie (New Jersey) may also be cut loose by Monday" while Marc Spears of Yahoo! writes, "Veteran Nets forward Tony Battie is another buyout candidate before Monday". Battie is owed about $2.2 million.

Even if we only save a few hundred thousand dollars, it would be worth it to cut loose Battie and Simmons. Even if we don’t fill the roster space at all. Just to save the plane tickets and lunch money, it would be worth it to pay these guys off and send them to Dallas or Cleveland or San Antonio. Really, maybe they could sign on to play in China with Starbury?

Word is that the Nets would audition some D-leaguers the last 25 games. There are other players out there looking for work as well: Rashard McCants worked out for the Mavs this week with Von Wafer, who got the job.

I suppose if they had any interest whatsoever in Morris Almond or Alexander Johnson, they would have shown it by now, huh?

Almond was recently traded by the Nets D-League affiliate because of chemistry issues…he will fire it up whenever he can and ball movement stops once it enters his hands. His defense is atrocious.
Alexander Johnson has always been viewed as a can’t miss prospect who keeps missing. He is the Chris Wilcox of the D-League.
I would rather them work out Rashad McCants or see what international players they can grab. Shawn Livingston would have been worth a shot but the Wiz took a chance on him. Livingston is a friend of Harris.

Lvingston was one his to being a very good player untill that injury, he would’ve been worth a look.

Has anyone actually read the Marc Spears article?
The Battie buyout is just a tidbit although important right now.
Whole section about Thorn and trade deadline. This is worth a separate Blog.
Thorn wasn’t willing to trade CLee before trade deadline despite interest? Rod kind of made fun of the Knicks for giving up too much to get cap space.
No mention of any interest in Yi.
Here is another summary story:

Sorry, guess I missed the story last evening about Thorn’s thinking. I should have known NI rarely misses a story:
