Game 57 - Nets @ Celtics - Saturday, February 27, 1:00

The Nets face the Celtics in the first of a back-to-back this weekend following a four-day rest. Paul Pierce is uncertain after suffering a sore thumb 10 days ago. The Celtics could have used him against the Cavs Thursday. Cleveland and LeBron James extended their dominance over Boston with a 20-point win. Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo will play. Bobby Simmons (personal issue) did not travel.

I will be at the game and probably the only Nets fan in attendance.

“Bobby Simmons remains out with a personal issue”.

Isn’t Simmons the highest paid on the roster?

Can’t remember the last time he suited up. Well, not true, he wears a suit on most nights.

Free Loadin’ over-paid high-fiver.

Good thing we got Yi in the deal…

OMG Bobby didn’t travel?? We’re doomed!!!

Anyone catch Jason Kidd tonight?
He willed the Mavs to victory with a Mega-Triple-Double.
I want to see Mavs loss, but can’t help to root for them.

Jason’s forced unique drawn technical turned out to be the point that led to overtime. Will be on all the sports highlights for next day.

That may be the first triple double in recent history with at least 15 in each category. Did anyone else note this?

by jerry25 on Feb 26, 2010 9:52 PM EST reply actions

@jerry25
To answer my question, ESPN says it was the first 15+ triple double since Jason Kidd did it in 1996. No word on the last person not named Kidd.

Wow wow wow. Just cuz JKidd got like his 2nd trip dubs since leaving the Nets doesn’t mean that trade was suddenly a steal for the Mavs. We still have this year’s draft pick. I know you’re annoyed that the Nets absolutely suck, but let’s not get carried away. Devin has gotten better since last year, but he has only showed for about 2 weeks because he has been injured, but believe me. he will average 20 points and 9 assists for the rest of the season. JKidd will be puttin up like 13 pts, 5 rbs, and 8 assists. Plus, Devin has plenty of trade value if we get the 1st pick.

by NET$MAN on Feb 26, 2010 11:18 PM EST reply actions

@jerry, yeah saw it. I still think the trade was the right move, but Kidd is one of my favorite players of all time, I don’t think the media appreciates him enough for how good he is. Also Matt if we had Kidd we wouldn’t have Brook, we wouldn’t have been bad enough to get him. That’s part of the reason we made all those trades, because with those players even though we wouldn’t have been good enough to compete we wouldn’t have been bad enough to get high enough draft picks to get impact players.

by Gina on Feb 26, 2010 11:34 PM EST reply actions

Listen folks, we HAD to trade Kidd. He had become a malcontent and he was poisoning the locker room

No matter how some of us feel about Devin, it was the right move to make. Kidd wanted out and the effort he was putting forth in the games he played in prior to the trade and what you see from him now is like night and day. He was dogging it. He saw the writing on the wall and wanted no parts of this mess.

This is why Nets fans should give a lot more respect to Vince Carter, who left here with class and dignity. He really helped the kids out last year, kept his mouth shut, and his former teammates still speak highly of him. I really hope Orlando can win the title so Vince can retire with a championship on his resume.

ESPN reports that Magic and Bird each had 2 15×3 games. Not sure if they had a 16×3 game as Kidd just had.

That is a false assumption. The team did not play worse after the trade. It still was hurt by lack of a decent big man and Kidd was was not himself after hurting his back in preseason. Lopez, Krstic, RJ, VC, Kidd, aww, we would have been too good to get TWill, I guess it was worth it to break up the team.

by Ispartan on Feb 27, 2010 9:22 AM EST reply actions

We also couldn’t win two years ago because VC was playing on an ankle that needed surgery.

Mr DB, you are correct, but how much of Kidd’s discontent was a result of Ratner’s ownership? All he needed was an extension. Oh, wait, then we couldn’t have signed Najera, never mind.

by Ispartan on Feb 27, 2010 9:43 AM EST reply actions

Ispartan,

I’m pretty sure that a good bit of Kidd’s discontent was from the fact that he realized that the team was being used for nothing more than a real estate deal, and winning was not a priority. I can’t blame him for feeling ticked off about that

Also I think that the team giving Vince a healthy extension while declining to give him one also had a lot to do with it. He was probably figuring well if I’m going to be stuck here playing for an absolute joke of a franchise, I might as well get paid handsomely while doing so. Being rebuffed on his request was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

We sure could use Jason Kidd! We would never have only five wins with Kidd on the team. 19 points, 17 rebounds, 16 assists. Not too shabby! I guess he is too old for us.

by JustinNJ on Feb 27, 2010 10:29 AM EST reply actions

We screwed the best player we ever had! That is why he wanted to jump ship. He saw it sinking quickly. He WAS PROUD TO BE A NEW JERSEY NET! The Rat had other ideas.

There’s 3 min left in 4th, they are falling apart. They played so well!!! Why can’t they play for 48 minutes!!!! Can they get this win??? We need it!!
