Game 56 - Nets vs. Grizzlies - Sunday, February 21, 6:00

A week ago, Brook Lopez and Marc Gasol manned the post for the sophs vs. the rooks in Dallas. Sunday, they'll be working against each other. The Nets and Grizzlies are the NBA's two most surprising teams, for vastly different reasons. They're also the two youngest teams. Expect Rudy Gay to get some questions about joining the Nets. He's a (restricted) free agent. Devin Harris and Yi Jianlian expect to play.

oj mayos a stud. i would definately look into getting him but i know for a fact memphis wouldnt give him up for anythign… too much skill, too much potential.

i dont excpect or want rudy gay. hes really not that good and not worthy of building a franchise around or even being a solid contributing piece.

we should get lee over here and thena top tier FA(lebron, wade) this year, or sign lee and then pursue melo and durant (hahahahah) in 2011

@Dan The Fan
AHAHAHAHA

Kiki would say well Yi gave a good effort on this Chinese History Day. We didnt want to play him because of his soarness but he insisted on playing which shows his love for this team.

It should be fun to watch Yi get emasculated by Z-Bo.

What a JOKE.

All Wall fans, please watch Vandy match now on ESPN. He seems completely lost cannot hit FT. I don’t understand the hype.

Another winning play by John Wall. Hopefully a future Newark Nets.

Lopez vs. Gasol .. should be fun to watch.

by hello on Feb 20, 2010 9:00 PM EST reply actions

John Wall’s hype is well warranted…. he helps his team win… period

we watched Wall hit a critical layup and strong defensive stance…

T-mac is doing work right now.
Thank you net’s office for sitting on your hand’s.

by ZHAS on Feb 20, 2010 9:52 PM EST reply actions

@ZHAS

yeah your right , knickss are ganna do damage this offseason , the nets are slacking big time , they are not making any moves

by BrS 1 on Feb 20, 2010 9:55 PM EST reply actions

Good luck with that. Only reason I want Wall now is because he can bring a big FA. Please don’t trade DH.

I hope Wall becomes a true PG but I see DH in him though a better rebounder.

by Tony on Feb 20, 2010 9:56 PM EST reply actions

@BrS 1

I agree with you all the way. We didn’t do anything. As much as i dislike the knicks and hate to admit it. They will attract free agents. good coach. higher cap. and the best arena to play in known to man. The net’s messed up their chances by sitting idle during the trade deadline.

by ZHAS on Feb 20, 2010 9:59 PM EST reply actions

John Wall’s mindset reminds me a little of Jordan……He lets his team play , gets them involved and then when they need him or at the end of a close game , He takes over at will…..

by jarkid on Feb 20, 2010 11:07 PM EST reply actions

Tony I’m with you. Wall is a very good player. But I don’t think he’s a franchise changer. I’ve watched several UK games to see is he was a dominant player. I just don’t see it. His teammates are VERY good. Wall has tremendous talent. But is he an Isiah Thomas? I hope to see him dominate some games before we get so excited by Dicky V’s hype…

by supreme on Feb 20, 2010 11:21 PM EST reply actions

Still no D-league call-ups, even with a roster spot open. What an insult.

LAST NIGHT IN D-LEAGUE:
MIKE HARRIS—30 points (12-18), 9 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block.
REGGIE WILLIAMS—21 points (7-10), 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals.
ALEXANDER JOHNSON—22 points (5-11, 12-16 free throws), 13 rebounds, 4 blocks, 1 steal, 1 assist. Played only 29 minutes.
DWAYNE JONES—didn’t play.

Alexander Johnson looks like a perfect power forward candidate for the Nets. He has the height, quickness, and athleticism. He can score, rebound, and block shots.

The Nets must be incredibly cheap, blind, or both.

by Barry Popik on Feb 20, 2010 11:52 PM EST reply actions

Yeah it’s kind of depressing watching the Nets with the same team in that dark horrible Izod arena, I’m not going to lie I grew a little jealous watching the Knicks today lol. We could never get that energy or talent out of this team smh.

by Atronic on Feb 20, 2010 11:55 PM EST reply actions

maybe its just their waitin for the offseason to finally pull off a miracle and surprise us all or maybe their the type of people that just like losing , i just dont know anymore lol

by BrS 1 on Feb 21, 2010 1:11 AM EST reply actions

haha now people are saying what i been saying about the knicks. now fans are going to pile in the stands to see Mcgrady play. WOW now they are going to make the playoffs. Its not that i wanted to make the playoffs but a few more enjoyable games wouldnt hurt. NETS DID NOTHING. they are PREYING on the draft. Rod Thorn and KIKI will sell there souls for a #1 pick. what will happen if we dont get it? what will happen if we dont get the second? Third??? WOW we wind up with the 4th pick WOW. And who are we gonna get? The only guys worth mentioning at the top is Cousins, Turner and Wall. What if we get none of them??? HHAHAHA we wind up with a soft Europeon Center to attract the buisness money we are losing with YI. WOW

by Spider Man on Feb 21, 2010 2:41 AM EST reply actions

Cole aldrich, ge had 15 pts 5 blcks yesterday

by Andy on Feb 21, 2010 2:50 AM EST reply actions

@ people wishing we had made trades,

did it ever occur to you that maybe nobody wanted our players? i mean, the only guys the Nets have been able to move this season are Najera and Alston (to teams they’ve already played for, no less). what, you think rod thorn just sits in his office all day organizing his pens? we have a bunch of filler trade pieces with no big catch to attach them to. nobody just wants yi or josh boone by themselves.

by sonny on Feb 21, 2010 4:39 AM EST reply actions

actually, i do think sits in his office playing with his pens. what did Knicks give up for TMac? jordan hill has bust written all over him; jordan hill has less value than CDR. Nets have multiple picks to offer. nets have multiple expirings as filler.

yes, i wonder what Thorn does all day. sits in his office worrying about Proky realizing he’s over the hill.

by JohnY on Feb 21, 2010 6:41 AM EST reply actions

We should buy out Simmons, and free the roster spot for some hungry guy from the D-League who can play PF & Center and total ten or fifteen minutes a game with hustle and anger. Simmons is just not going to play here anymore, so even if we save only a million dollars, it’s still a big win for us, and a chance to find some D-League long shot who could make the roster next year. Maybe after today’s YI Chinese Culture day appearance, we can rest him for two or three games and let his shoulder heal. It is just dumb at 5-50 to play someone who is clearly hurt. Boone hasn’t looked that bad, start THE HUMPH and let Boone get his 20 minutes. What have we got to lose? All this said….OH PROKY, YOU ARE STILL OUR ONLY HOPE!

by Paul Erstein on Feb 21, 2010 7:40 AM EST reply actions

What does Thorn do all day? He says we need a moose inside and it takes 8 months to get Humphries. What good are all these picks and exceptions if you do not use them! The team with the worst record usually does NOT get the 1st pick. So, what are they going to do when they see another team get the 1st? I don’t think the new owner is going to be what we think. I don’t see any FA’s coming here. I see Yi and Hayes starting again. I see lots of hyperbole about the future, the kids, the cap space, the flexibility. I see 25 wins.

by wjp on Feb 21, 2010 9:13 AM EST reply actions

GET T-MAC!!!!!!!!!!!

by Robert on Feb 21, 2010 9:16 AM EST reply actions

Love Kerber’s post: Kiki to Yi: you are a shooter, shoot. Really? What has Kiki been watching? Yi is a career 39% shooter. Reggie Miller does not get into the Hall with those numbers (O, yeah, he shoots that from 3!). Two thinks bother me about Thorn: he can never get a PF – I mean a real PF; he never gets shooters.

by geo on Feb 21, 2010 9:17 AM EST reply actions

I’d much rather have Turner than Wall.

Here’s my draft wish list:

1. Turner
2. Wall
3. Cousins
4. Johnson

by Andres on Feb 21, 2010 9:28 AM EST reply actions

lol @danthefan

I hope the Nets are still hyping up Yi because they want to unload him this summer.(good luck) There’s nothing to be excited about with Yi. He plays like a small middle schooler against high school kids. NBA bigs handle him like a rag doll. He dribbles into double teams and never passes out of them, unless he’s passing into a turnover.

The fact is, he’s not good. If the Nets keep trying to sell their fans on rotten good then go ahead, they already have a hard enough time drawing people

by Sami on Feb 21, 2010 11:21 AM EST reply actions

Thorn must spend his days in his office twiddling his thumbs. Who knows what goes on, but the bottom line is nothing productive.

The Nets are gambling just as badly as the Knicks are. But the Knicks have a pair, and the Nets don’t. Also, our ownership issues really have screwed us.

by Mr. Dollar Bills on Feb 21, 2010 12:46 PM EST reply actions

I am pretty sure they will go after Tmac because its all about marketing and that will be the big guy they bring in. He sold more jerseys in China then Yao Ming. So playing with Yi the people will love.

by Randy Oreens on Feb 21, 2010 12:57 PM EST reply actions

Love Turner and I think he’s gonna be a great pro but he’s getting very overrated/hyped up lately.

Saying he’s better than John Wall is a laugh.

Turner is playing under a system just for him and has a great supporting cast that is BUILT around him. Ohio run tons of pick n rolls and isos for Turner, give him credit he delivers. Except for the UNC and West Virginia game were he pretty much lost the games for Ohio.

Wall is playing around great players with egos and is the LEADER. He picks when he needs to take over offensively. UK run a lot of Dribble Drive Motion Offense and Post Ups. Thus, Wall gets very little pick n rolls and isos. However, when he gets his pick n rolls and isos he looks UNSTOPPABLE.

I don’t mind drafting Turner but if we get the first pick WE’RE DRAFTING WALL.

I think drafting a WING, with the wings we got and a good chance of signing someone who averages 20 points, 6 rebounds in the NBA, has more potential than Turner and is basically Turner’s age, would be GAY.

(For those who don’t follow the guy i’m talking about is Rudy Gay)

by rknine on Feb 21, 2010 12:58 PM EST reply actions

@ Sami:
you are right on the money about Yi. he CANNOT catch the ball.

  the nets are obviously not bad because of the talent level of the players. they are bad because of a wannabe coach who has NO experience and the whole team is under the age of 25.

we should try to trade Yi for Robin Lopez so the twins can be back together and Robin is definitely better than Yi

by armenianassault on Feb 21, 2010 1:11 PM EST reply actions

@Andres

My wish list…

1.Turner
2.Wall
3.Cousins
4.Aldrich

by Andy on Feb 21, 2010 1:24 PM EST reply actions

Admit it- we all want the nets to do bad. We want us to remain under the radar until july when we see what our front office has been doing this season. We all know lebron is resiging w/ the cavs he won’t leave a solid team for a (explecit) team. We have a chance w/ amare but only if we offer him a lot of cash moola. Joe johnson, bosh, and wade are all competitors who sure as (explecit) won’t come to the (explecit) nets. Who’s left then? John wall? We won’t get the 1st pick look at history what are the chances for the worst team (record wise of course) to get the first pick? And we’re not the only bad team in the nba…..twolves, clippers, etc etc all want wall too

by big daddy phil on Feb 21, 2010 2:38 PM EST reply actions

@Andres
I agree with your list for now, except it isn’t a wish list but a fact – Turner, Wall, Cousins and W. Johnson.

The Wish is to get #1 and resist being influenced by LeBron who has chosen Wall as a future advertising buddy.

by jerry25 on Feb 21, 2010 2:39 PM EST reply actions

@Barry Popik:
This Alexander Johnson seems perfect for Nets, now that Yi is hopefully injured.

Who does he play for?
Get us some links and lets try to get NI and NetsDaily to do a piece on him.

He may be gone soon. Just like the Nets to even let a D-Leaguer go by.

@ armenianassault

It is a great idea to trade YI for the other Lopes. It will be interesting to see the twin fight in the court. Who do you think will win?

Randolph to ravage Yi, lopez will play shy and no one will be able to come big

by VC3 on Feb 21, 2010 5:31 PM EST reply actions

@rknine

The thing that sets Turner apart is his court vision. He has the capacity to change the selfishness that has permeated the team since Kidd and Carter left. Good as Gay is, Turner has more potential to change the culture and be a better overall player because he does it all. John Wall would require a trade of Devin Harris and Turner, imo, is better anyway. College players do not do what he does throughout history (triple double threat every night)

Fire Kiki and get somone that can couch even a little bit. I mean what idiot put him coaching its the stupidist thing ever.
