Harris OK as Kiki Defends Yi

Devin Harris sprained his knee Friday and didn't practice Saturday, but he'll play on Sunday, calling the injury minor. Meanwhile, Yi Jianlian (shoulder and back) got another vote of confidence from his coach. "Ever since two or three weeks ago when he hurt his shoulder, his shooting has been not great, obviously,’’ Kiki Vandeweghe said. It would be hard to shut him down. Sunday is Chinese Culture Night at IZOD.

So chinese culture night is making kiki keep yi and his disgraceful play in the starting lineup? wow what has this franchise come to? This is ridiculous !!!!

by montynetfan on Feb 20, 2010 2:46 PM EST reply actions

As Vince Lombardi used to say, “Winning Isn’t Everything… It’s More Important to Trot Out The Worst Player in the NBA For Chinese Culture night” (or something like that, I forget the exact words)

by oligarch on Feb 20, 2010 2:50 PM EST reply actions

And here… we… go. Cue nets fans. Over under on the number of comments this reaches? 130 I would guess

by Muwu on Feb 20, 2010 2:54 PM EST reply actions

lmao @ chinese culture. so what we in black history month but Cdr and boone rot on the bench. This Organization sucks man im glad my Jets are rising cause being a fan of the nets is like pullng teeth.

by Spider Man on Feb 20, 2010 2:58 PM EST reply actions

And on a semi related note, Devin has really got to learn from guys like Brandon Roy who opt to be more selective with their bullish forays to the rim in order to save their bodies. It hurts that he doesn’t have a dependable jumper to rely on so he can pick and choose times when he goes barreling to the rim

by Muwu on Feb 20, 2010 2:59 PM EST reply actions

Is Boone black? And how do you feature players in black history month when a majority of your players are black and it lasts an entire month? The whole point of the chinese culture thing is to get the specific niche markets representation

by Muwu on Feb 20, 2010 3:01 PM EST reply actions

I’m not saying Yi’s injuries are fabricated, but I imagine making injury excuses might help retain what little trade value Yi has left. Better than saying straight up that the guy stinks. Maybe Kiki is positioning the Nets to trade Yi sometime in the future- like right before the draft or something. Who knows.

by molskin on Feb 20, 2010 3:05 PM EST reply actions

This scum Kiki fails to acknowoedge that even before this little shoulder injury, Yi was shooting a pathetic 40% from the field.

by Antoine on Feb 20, 2010 3:24 PM EST reply actions

Kiki = Zeke 2.0

Hollah!

by Shawn Carter on Feb 20, 2010 3:30 PM EST reply actions

Isiah Thomas was worse than Kiki…….. he probably would have maxed out Yi by now, imagine.

by oligarch on Feb 20, 2010 3:57 PM EST reply actions

Well ok then, after Chinese cultural night on Sunday put him on the inactive list.

by Dont Taze Me Bro! on Feb 20, 2010 3:58 PM EST reply actions

Trade Yi back to China please!!!

by Panareal on Feb 20, 2010 4:05 PM EST reply actions

I wish we could just sit YI for a few games, playing with a bad shoulder and shooting so badly can not be good for his fragile ego and self esteem. Chinese Culture night is just another piece of crap from that jerk Yormark.

by Paul Erstein on Feb 20, 2010 4:08 PM EST reply actions

Yi shooting has been bad lately cause of injury..but to say a guy is faking injury and making excuses is a low blow…Yi always plays hard never complain….

looks like we have a few sour apples in here…lame duck fans…heehee..

Positive side..I like Twill..dooling…I see good chemistry with Yi…

Yi need to gain some upper body strength and just go up hard..dunk …

chacha cha…:)

by Akara on Feb 20, 2010 4:17 PM EST reply actions

Dont u guys love when the pa announcer says “NETS BASKETBALL MORE THEN A GAME” that slogan basiclly says this team sucks and its about eating a $8 hot dog lol

by Matt on Feb 20, 2010 4:23 PM EST reply actions

What a bunch of garbage. There is a real problem when a stupid marketing gimmick prevents the team from putting their best players on the floor. But we all knew there was a real problem here anyway.

by pawley on Feb 20, 2010 4:32 PM EST reply actions

There are no best players on Nets team..or else we wouldnt be starting 0-18 ..while yi was out for 24 games…

lolzzz

by Akara on Feb 20, 2010 4:42 PM EST reply actions

Him struggling because of an injury two weeks ago still doesn’t explain why Kiki continues to play him over Boone/Humphries. Wouldn’t a possible injury be even more reason to bench him for healthy options when he’s not helping the team? It seems like a pretty weak attempt at an explanation from Kiki.

by Gina on Feb 20, 2010 4:46 PM EST reply actions

FIRE YI, NOW!!!

by GONETS on Feb 20, 2010 4:53 PM EST reply actions

“As Kiki Defends Yi” Is that really surprising?! Net Income Once said we have alot of man love for CD-R well Kiki has alot of Man Love for Yi and he doesn’t deserve it!

I Hate Kiki!

by Mikee21 on Feb 20, 2010 5:07 PM EST reply actions

@ Akara
Please stop the nonsense. Yi plays hard!!! Who are you kidding? If Yi plays hard, then what do you call what Boone and Humphries do on the court??? ohoh! I get it, they kill themselves for the team. Gimme a break, will you?

by KJV on Feb 20, 2010 5:10 PM EST reply actions

@ Akara,
I tried so hard to understand your logic in that second post of yours, and (no surprise) I could not…(shacking head)

by KJV on Feb 20, 2010 5:14 PM EST reply actions

Eh. I’ve said my peace about Yi.

But you’ll know the Nets are a good team when he’s no longer on it.

by TWilliAM on Feb 20, 2010 5:22 PM EST reply actions

Kiki’s problem is that he doesn’t understand how to rotate players in and out of the rotation, if someones cold you sit him!!!! You don’t go into a game with a single plan of attack and not deviate from that. I mean even Lawrence Frank played Sean Williams at times who was buried at the end of the bench. Whats his excuse for not playing CDR, it seems like he loves 1-10’s, 3-15’s, 2-20’s, I mean common, every game is different our starters are not consistent enough to get consistent minutes except for Lopez and Harris.

by Atronic on Feb 20, 2010 5:56 PM EST reply actions

@Mikee21

The “man love” that CDR received is nowhere near that of Yi’s fans. Almost every Yi fan solely supports Yi and not the Nets, call Lopez “Lopes” on purpose as well as other degrading names, criticize the performance of Yi’s teammates, and continuously make up BS excuses to why Yi is playing terribly.

by Antoine on Feb 20, 2010 6:02 PM EST reply actions

I think Kiki should play Yi aggressively. I mean, send him out there and have him attack the defenders. That way, he can pick up 3 fouls early and we can have my man Humphries play. I know Humphries doesn’t have raw talent, but the guy hustles like no one else on this team. He’s the Anti-Yi.

I’m think after Kiki’s comments about Yi, they’re gonna go out on a romantic dinner. I mean there’s gotta be something going on there, right?

by KD on Feb 20, 2010 6:09 PM EST reply actions

What happened to earning minutes? It really is disappointing to see Kiki back this guy without regard to performance when others (Boone and Humphries) do better. He had his 3 or 4 good games in a row just like last year to give false hope. He does not have any fire in him and you can’t put it there.

The soap opera continues.

by Peter on Feb 20, 2010 6:09 PM EST reply actions

I’m Chinese-American and I find Chinese Culture Night pathetic and insulting. Yormark still doesn’t understand why the NY area Chinese community is indifferent to the Nets and his gimmicky promotions.

Chinese Culture Night does NOT interest the NYC Chinese community one bit. If anything, such a pathetic ploy would ALIENATE teenage Chinese-American fans.

Putting Yi out there in position to fail (which he does almost nightly) does not attract the Chinese-American (or China) fan base. No one wants to celebrate a loser (failed athlete). When you start Yi and force-feed him minutes, he shoots 30% and that makes it IMPOSSIBLE for the Chinese to root for Yi.

Its gotten so bad that Yi’s Chinese fans want him traded out of this losing situation to another team.

by JohnY on Feb 20, 2010 6:34 PM EST reply actions

“It would be hard to shut him down. Sunday is Chinese Culture Night at IZOD.”

You can’t be serious. This is a load of bull.

by Mr. Dollar Bills on Feb 20, 2010 7:23 PM EST reply actions

Yi is god awful at the sport of basketball. I mean come on, everyone in the league knows this… if you question this put the man on the trade market and see what you could for him.

by The Don on Feb 20, 2010 7:23 PM EST reply actions

No Matter what happen..Nets season is Over! Yi needs to play through and improve..if he can play…Yi need to practicehis low post moves…

Stop winning about Yi…For cryin out loud…Nets season is over…

the whole freaken team sux…dont blame on 1 player…

you were 0-18 ..yi was on ithe injured list…………………………nju

“Yi’s Chinese fans want him traded out of this losing situation to another team.”

From your lips to Rod’s ears.

by TWilliAM on Feb 20, 2010 8:03 PM EST reply actions

can someone in the press be a man and call out Kiki for exactly what he’s doing? I would take a restriction from Nets practices if I was a reporter, just to put this jerk up against the wall…his excuses are even WORSE than his decisions…i mean I know it’s all about “next year” and kiki will probaly be gone in the summer however doesn’t 2010 kind of count as “next year”…get rid of this idiot already…no wonder Denver got rid of him…

by specialed987 on Feb 20, 2010 8:12 PM EST reply actions

What is the relationship between kiki and Yi?

by jimmy on Feb 20, 2010 8:18 PM EST reply actions

If it’s abot next year then shouldn’t he be finding out what he has in CDR, Humphries and Boone too.

by Gina on Feb 20, 2010 8:25 PM EST reply actions

@ JohnY
My thoughts exactly

by KJV on Feb 20, 2010 8:52 PM EST reply actions

Kiki will be all over Nets History when this is all said and done, unfortunately, it will be for all the wrong reasons.

by KJV on Feb 20, 2010 8:55 PM EST reply actions

What about trying to play Yi at center to back up Lopez ?

by NetFan48 on Feb 20, 2010 10:10 PM EST reply actions

Yi is a weakling mentally and physically and does not belong in a starting role on any NBA team. He has some offensive skills, but can’t find them more than 4 -5 times per season. He doesn’t have the most basic defensive skill other than blocking. Opposing power forwards and small forwards just abuse him, scoring on him at will. He cost us the Miami game (thanks, Kiki) when he came in late and let Beasley score 6 quick uncontested points. He is a big soft hole in our lineup and I am sure breeds resentment among the other players, both those who must play with him and also those who’s minutes he is stealing. I look forward to when he is gone.

yi is a stretch 4…as a “power” forward he is a stretch…

by jirohkanzaki on Feb 21, 2010 12:40 AM EST reply actions

yi’s model girlfriend should always be in the games so we can have something pretty to look at whenever yi is out there playing…

by jirohkanzaki on Feb 21, 2010 12:47 AM EST reply actions

If you put an injured player to play, isn’t that a stupid coaching decision. In effect your harming the team’s chances to win as it happens on the last game. Yi keeps heaving wild shots when he knows his shoulder is not OK.

by Edd on Feb 21, 2010 9:16 AM EST reply actions

Just ridiculous beyond words!! Let’s see, can we get a win with Yi out? Oh, but wait! Its Chinese Cultural night. Oh well, it’s only one more loss!

by Joanne on Feb 21, 2010 9:23 AM EST reply actions

@ Akara

YI has a lot to improve. The damn thing is that he might not recognize it.

But first thing first is to leave Lopes, the GREATEST and those fans here in NETS. The are like the college division I basketball coaches who refuse to give Jeremy Lin scholarship.

by YI_hater_supporter on Feb 21, 2010 3:02 PM EST reply actions

@ Johny.

I admitted that Yi is not good enough to be a starter. However, as I have mentioned above, the entire team sux and is not only because of Yi.

And please stop talking like you knows feeling and thoughts of the Chinese-American & China fans base.
