Game 48 - Nets @ Raptors - Wednesday, February 3, 7:00

How's this for a road trip: three games in four nights, followed by a visit to Cleveland. The Nets could use the rest, but will have to wait until the All-Star break. The first stop is across the border vs. the surging Raptors. After a slow start, Toronto has moved up the Eastern Conference standings, but their suspect defense gave up 130 points in a loss in Indiana Tuesday. Hedo Turkoglu and Jose Calderon are likely out.

that is kinda interesting. i never put it together that the two nets #1 picks were 1990 & 2000. would definitely be fitting we got the #1 pick this year.

sigh… this is another lose, the Nets have lost most of their winnable games…they might win under 9…
it’s really shameful.

NBATV had Devin as one of top 5 players last night with 24/14
Lawrence Frank was at the Orlando game last night, looking good (obviously his failure in NJ wasn’t his fault) They said Frank was there to help Vince Carter, but assume that was a joke.
Del Harris will be back home for the All Star game. They said he will be GM of their D-League team next season, which Nancy Lieberman will be head coach.
Maybe Del has business to take care of.
I think there may be a chance that Del has been informed by Kiki that Yi is being shopped around and doesn’t want to be there when his student is traded.
The good news from yesterday, besides Harris’ return, is that Demarcus Cousins has proven to be a top 4 draft pick, if only he could exist alongside Brook. (he certainly wouldn’t put up with Yi as his teammate – Cousins seems to be another KMart type)
Now it seems that Turner, Cousins and probably Wall, are capable of being NBA All-Stars within a few years. Just need one more sure thing and Nets are set.
Maybe Devin could be traded for a top 4-8 pick. I would only do that if Nets got #1 pick for Wall and if Nets were planning to also trade for someone like Iggy (who would become the Nets team leader over Harris)

The way the raptors score and shoot at home, and have been playing, and coming off a loss… This one could get ugly. All the positive steps on D this past week came against garbage teams. Toronto is better and runs and shoots well. Final score prediction:
Toronto 135 – NJ 77
Biggest loss in the NBA this season? Worse then the Knicks a few weeks ago???

lol, i personally guarantee to buy courtside tickets to all the regular posters here if the Nets score 130 points tonight (excluding O/T).

@ JohnY;
Please sit me between Isaac and NI. That would be better then watching the game.

oh, i’ll be sure to seat all the homers together, away from me :)

Let’s sit Yi down and start Hump. Hassel and Hump as our forwards and we might have a chance at winning.
Nevermind John Wall is more important “let’s start Yi”

Surely we can pull out a win with Calderon and Turkoglu out. Then again, it might help them defensively with them out. Meh, every game is a default loss now, winning is always gonna be a surprise, not something we can count on

@i
NBATV is a good source of info. and is backed up by the NBA.
That’s why it is reliable to believe that the Board would vote on Proky at the All Star break (and likely approve him) since it was announced on NBATV.
@Andy
How often have you watched Cousins play? The announcers said before the game that he could go at #2. Then he had another monster game. He is 6’11" and 275 lbs. with very fast feet. His teammates see he just wants to win badly.
Is it his temperment that scares you away? Me too – I would rather go the safe route and pay highest price to get DLee (who gets along with everyone and already IS an All Star for practical purposes).
However, any pick the Nets take had better be a future All-Star, if Nets want to turn things around. I doubt if Cousins would be any more problematic that KMart was, but both would have difficulty with seeing Yi get major PT.
Since two Nets Scouts were at the game (over 20 Scouts in total), you can be sure Cousins impressed them.

It’s tough to find positives in a season like this, but at least they’re playing defense, or make an effort at playing defense. Like I said a couple of days ago. Playing D will eventually get them some wins.
by Gerard Himself on Feb 3, 2010 11:48 AM EST reply actions
Cousins has all the talent in the world, but he’s got more issues that just temperament. He’s also a black hole, he’s not really a willing passer even if he can find the open man. He also has bouts of laziness and just isn’t focused on getting back on defense sometimes.
So again, we’re here at a guy who has talent, but is a big headcase. We’ve gone down that road a couple of times and it hasn’t really worked out for us.
DeMarcus Cousins won’t help out team if we draft him, it’ll be his 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th team that gets to reap the rewards.
“A few articles have already been written about his extremely unpredictable nature and whether that might come back to haunt Kentucky at some point in a big game, and these same concerns may give NBA executives room for pause when thinking about drafting him extremely high in the lottery and making him the face of their franchise.
Simply put, is he the type of player who can help a team win games, or will his attitude on and off the court end up being a detriment to his career? These are the things that will be keeping NBA GMs up at night through the months of May and June, and will surely require an incredibly thorough examination into every detail of his personality and background. Still, it’s nearly impossible to find players who are as talented as him, which is why he’s unlikely to last very long in the Green Room when it’s all said and done. "

You can’t teach BIG!
Of course, that’s what they said about Kwame Brown…
Still, the Nets need a big, nasty enforcer and Cousins fits the bill.

The Nets have two excellent options
1. Trade Yi and Harris for a top 10 pick. Draft Harris and big 4. (Cousins, Favor or Gtown Center)
Add Lebron and Lee
2. Keep Harris. Add either Bron or Gay. Trade the #1 for a top 4 and add one of the young big men.

In all honesty the nets should be giving free seats to all regular posters or upgrading their season tickets. At some point the success of recruiting free agents and having to sell Newark for two seasons having an arena and a fan base that can be viewed from the court would be helpful. If moneys the same would you prefer to play in front of packed house or empty arena?

“Cousins: stay one more season, become the Wildcats’ go-to guy along with Eric Bledsoe next year and show everyone that you are indeed mature enough to get paid and play with the pros. Because one day soon Calipari and the Kentucky faithful won’t be there to clean up your messes. Just ask Sean Williams.”
by Muwu on Feb 3, 2010 12:45 PM EST reply actions
Free seats? They should raise their prices. LOL
Where else can you get this kind of entertainment.
I have never been effected by a team quite as much as this Nets team. I can’t stop watching even though it hurts so much to watch.
The twists and turns and not knowing what is going to happen next, is addicting.
Wins and losses pale in comparison to all the drama and intrigue away from the court.
Wait until the draft lottery drawing and then the actual draft. Plus the free agent market and possible trades.
Our season will never end.
There is a thin line between love + hate. And I keep crossing line, back and forth. LMAO

@Muwu
Thanks for spelling of temperament.
I am a UVA/ACC fan but will be rooting for KY (and Ohio State, Syracuse) to go far, so that we can get a better evaluation.
However, if Nets are indeed considering Cousins for a top 4 pick, they may need to consider getting rid of Yi in advance, while other teams are also looking for trades.
@Russ
Can’t see Harris being traded without knowing that Wall would be a Net. If Yi can’t be moved now, however, maybe something on draft night, to free up cap space in addition.
The Harris of last night should be worth no less than a #4-#5 pick (24pts/14 assists with a reasonable contract!)
The Georgetown Center, Greg Monroe, is ranked #26 by Draft Express, so maybe he will be around for the Dallas pick, if his play continues to be mediocre.
If Nets added Wall/Turner and DLee and got rid of Yi for something, then LeBron certainly would be interested (though might have to take a pay cut in first year). More than likely he would wait another year. The Nets management is aware of the 2 year plan (i.e. keep significant cap space till 2011), and that would also allow them to keep Dooling for next year.

On a positive note however….Dallas had lost a couple big games of late and is now the 3 seed but only 2 losses from being 5 seed and 4 losses from 8 seed. The west is so competitive that its not impossible that Dallas fails to make the playoffs giving us 2 lottery picks. I’ve always felt Dallas is an old team and an injury away from lottery. If that pick can end up in the lottery we have so many options. Wall and cousins becomes distinct possibility. So focus on the west for the next three months and hope for Dallas to falter. That will truly alter our offseason.
by ryan243 on Feb 3, 2010 12:54 PM EST reply actions
Best thing one of our players can do is break a bone or something of Dirk or Kidd or Terry. The Nets will just compensate him under the table if there’s a fine or suspension lol losing one player will hardly hurt us any more than we already are
by Muwu on Feb 3, 2010 1:00 PM EST reply actions
And the Harris of last night showed how valuable he can be when not asked to be the man. I would never deal an All-Star for an unproven college prospect. The draft is ALWAYS full of busts. Building around lopez and Harris along with our young core and top 4 pick makes us a lot more attractive in free agency than a team without Harris. Imagine we end up with wall or turner and adding to this core is probably a playoff team next season. If we managed to get Lebron we are top seed in east. Harris will be. A big part of that and in recruiting free agents.

Thanks for the post on the DeMarcus Cousins article by Jack Jenson.
Jack has since backtracked on his negative remarks, in comment #20, after reading the other viewer remarks.
Nice to have interactive authors.

If this guy has an attitude problem I’d regretably say take a pass I don’t want to waste a high draft pick on anotehr Sean Williams type bust.

Yi needs to stay glued to that bench for the rest of the game. He is coming in the game now for lopez. watch the raptors go on a run now.
