As Harris Departs, Loyer Gets Bigger Role

Del Harris surprised the Nets by saying he's headed back to Texas for professional reasons, reports Dave D'Alessandro. The 72-year-old Harris was brought in to help Kiki Vandeweghe following the firing of Lawrence Frank. With Harris leaving and Tom Barrise already in the front office, John Loyer will get more responsibilities as Vandeweghe's lead assistant. Loyer joined the team in September.

Counting down the days until the Nets hire Mike O’Koren as Head Coach.

I really wish they would have a contest to like have fans coach the team for a game. I truly, honestly believe, that I could coach this team better than anyone on that bench right now.

He didn’t want to be part of this debacle anymore and saw he was wasting his time.

well, Del is 72. He just didn’t wanted to lose more games than his age.

We need a real coach…3 straight losses in the end of the game… Obviously the coach isn’t preparing thr team properly for late game situations.

Kiki should be dismissed for personal reasons as well.
Harris wanted off of this sinking ship, and I can’t blame him.
Promote Loyer to head coach and tell Kiki to kick rocks.

Wow, even the coaches are jumping ship now! I want to personally thank the RAT!

I hope that this and the meeting with Proko is a sign that the Nets are going to hire a real coach (Van Gundy) soon. The Nets really lack a creator to open things up at the end of games, but they also lack quality coaching. In tonight’s game Devon was talking more than Kiki at the timeout at the end of the game.
Let a new coach bring in a whole staff, system, and organization and let’s begin to turn things around – this is ridiculous.

Some free advice for managment, hire a real coach and send Kiki back to the front office.

I can I imagine that time out
Devin: “right lets foul their best free thriw shooter and then I’ll throw up a highly contested three of the dribble with plenty of time elft evne thought I’m shooting it somewhere in the range of 15% for the year.”
Kiki: Ok sounds good as long as you foul rip again and Yi gets a touch on the next posesion.
Yi: Shot for Yi!
Courtney: Can’t I miss the three coach?
Kiki: Ask Del?
Del: Sorry what I was busy thinking what I’d do on the plane, how much did we lose by?
Brook Lopez: Help!

Kenny Natt (a former Cavs assistant from 2004-2007) should take over after this season.

@shea23:
LOL
But seriously, am I the only one who knows the real “Professional” reason why Harris is leaving now?
Kiki must have tipped off Del that is favorite student – Yi Jianlian – is going to be trading during the next 2 weeks!
Wasn’t developing Yi supposed to be the major project? It will have ended in failure and Del doesn’t want that to be part of his legacy.
Regarding coaches, lets not rule out Avery, just because it might upset Devin a little.
Prokhorov can pay TOP DOLLAR for a new coach, so lets only hear names of top notch proven coaches as possibilities. At least Avery has one of the highest winning percentages as a former NBA coach.

Pro-rate a contract for Fratello to finish the season as coach IMMEDIATELY. The Del Harris move now looks like a complete embarrassment to say nothing of the choice to put Kiki out there. Fratello could do a better job coaching this team while simultaneously broadcasting the game. If ownership has any pride (it obviously doesn’t), they would do anything possible to avoid setting this humiliating and pathetic record that will likely never be broken. It is impossible to lose as often as this bunch of garbage that Ratner gave us does yet they are finding a way just about every night. Enough already – get someone in there for the stretch run that will at least provide a game plan.

Solutions for the future:
1. Rick Pitino 2. Tom Izzo 3. Jeff Van Gundy (with Mark Jackson as lead asst. – if Devin is staying, someone will need to teach him how to play his position since he currently has no clue)
Pitino may have failed in Boston but he clearly wants to end his coaching career while proving he can coach at the NBA level – as he was doing briefly for the Knicks. If Thorn or another competent GM stays on and Pitino is there simply to coach, it can work. I am convinced Izzo could coach at any level and would love to see him take a crack at the pros with the Nets. JVG, among unemployed NBA coaches is clearly the best. Avery Johnson cannot hold a candle to him. If we could somehow pry Rick Adelman away from Houston, that would be another stellar choice and in fact the Nets should have gotten Adelman when Kidd was still here – it could have led to great things.

My choices:
1. Rick Adelman
2. Rick Pitino
3. Stan Van Gundy

If any of you had been at a game lately, you could see Kiki relying more and more on Loyer, less on Harris. Loyer has been an assistant in both college (Cincinnati) and the NBA (most recently with Philly where he helped develop Thaddeus Young). He is a good coach. Harris just didn’t want to go to Canada. It’s cold there.
Yi isn’t being traded in two weeks. Yi stays until Prokhorov arrives.

Maybe Dell Harris hears the approaching footsteps of the great Russian hordes. A new owner, a new coach and a new start. Let the new age begin… Bye Dell
by Mike on Feb 3, 2010 10:00 AM EST reply actions
Prokhorov arrives in 2 weeks. That gives 4 days before deadline to get rid of Yi, although obviously he doesn’t have to be approved by NBA for Ratner to make a trade.
Not only would Yi get limited PT next year – thus jeopardizing relations with China, keeping Yi would also make it unwise to draft Demarcus Cousins, who WILL be an All Star at the level of Amare or better.
Would Nets fans not want to have someone Intense and Combative, who wants to win, like a KMart? KMart settled down after a couple of years anyway, but I guess he too wouldn’t put up with someone like Yi starting ahead of him.
