Coach K: "I Won't Consider Nets Job"

Word is that the Nets will present Mike Krzyzewski with an offer they think he can't refuse, but he's doing everything he can to discourage them. In an interview with ESPN 1050, Coach K was even more definitive than he was this weekend. Asked if he would consider the Nets job, the Duke coach replied, "I would not...I think it's a good job, it's just not a good job for me and the Nets haven't offered that."

Anyone know where simmons and battie are? I don’t see them on the bench.. Did they get traded or released?

No loss.
I don’t see a reason to believe he’d be a good NBA coach. He wouldn’t have an Olympic-style all-star roster. Are his Xs and Os really what make him win at Duke, or is it being able to recruit top-level high-school talent? In the NBA you’re much more stuck with the players you have.
Just replace Kiki with a solid, experienced NBA guy for the rest of the season (Fratello?) and let James or Wade’s reps tell you who they want when the time comes.

Jeff Van Gundy will be coaching the Nets next season.

What would the offer be for Coach K? 5 years 500 million?

FIRE KIKI!!!!!

HOLLAH!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m not sure why everyone is not on board with hiring Mike Fratello. I don’t understand how this guy is not on the very short list of candidates. His coaching record speaks for itself. If that doesn’t inspire you – listen to his analysis on Nets games. He is one of the best at explaining the game and breaking down plays. Aside from that – he knows this roster and the strengths and weaknesses of every player better than any other name being talked about. There were posters who were ecstatic about the idea of Rick Pitino. Yet very few people support Fratello. It literally blows my mind.

Let the agent for whoever we get pick the coach next year. If we don’t get anybody – in order:

1. Rick Pitino
2. Sam Mitchell
3. Rick Adelman
4. Mike Brown.

oh and again – Coach K is NOT going to comment on taking this job until after the season.

a) its incredibly unclassy for a coach to openly discuss a job for the following season
b) it would KILL recruiting at Duke for next season
c) it would probably lead to a few freshmen looking to transfer
d) he can’t comment on anything until he sees the contract
e) no coach will want to commit until after the draft lottery to see if they are coaching John Wall/Evan Turner or Wes Johnson
f) and i bet any potential coach will want to see the long term plans of the franchise – meaning Newark or IZOD, is Brooklyn a definite and the plan of Proky…none of which will be known until after the college season is over.

Fratello is a great option.

by Shea23 on Feb 16, 2010 9:41 PM EST reply actions

@Ryan – I agree about Fratello, he seems like a great option and a good guy…I love his commentating so that would be the only drawback, not having him analysing during games…he knows his stuff…he does have a good record too…

But there are SO many options out there…

Coach K: "I Won’t Consider Nets Job"

Smart man.

Lets get a legit NBA Coach in here with experience dealing with professionals for an 82 game season, someone that knows how to deal with millionaire egos while being able to coach and teach. I wish we could get a guy like Hubie Brown, someone that puts emphasis on teaching the game to younger players.

I want either Coach Cal or The Czar. JVG is a no-no!

Great posts all around by Ryan243. Regardless of if Coach K is or is not interested it would not be smart for him to even hint at leaving. As a college coach I know that it would destroy your ability to recruit if there was even a hint that you were going elsewhere.

With that being said, however, I doubt Coach K is going anywhere. He has too good of a thing going at Duke. I’d love to see Coach K come to the Nets. His reputation alone would help attract free agents and the players would want to play for him. He is really a class act, unlike Coach Cal and Rick Pitino. Granted Coach Cal was fine for the Nets while he was here but he is guilty of countless NCAA violations where ever he goes. I’d rather have someone with more integrity on board.

But I doubt he’s leaving Kentucky any time soon either.
