Dunk King Abdicates, Wants TWill To Take His Place

After three Dunk Contest crowns, Nate Robinson says he's done, but he wants the man he calls "brother" to take his place. Robinson, who won his latest crown Saturday in Dallas says it's time for his fellow Rainier High School alum Terrence Williams to take over. "If he were in the dunk contest I know he probably would have won this one," Robinson said. "You're going to see a lot more of that kid."

Twill is not the answer for the boring dunk contest

I think T-Will will be in next years contest. He may win too.

The slam dunk contest is old and tired. Has been for a number of years now. Time to come up with something new.

What more can the dunk contest be?

Thanks to Youtube and street dunk contests, virtually everything amazing has been seen already.

The next biggest thing would be to introduce acrobatics.

Throw the ball off the floor into the air, do a couple of cartwheels or flips then grab the ball and slam it.

But no one is going to get the proper lift to jump immediately after using the legs and hips for those acrobatics…

by rightclue on Feb 15, 2010 12:11 PM EST reply actions

Corey Maggette’s done a flip during his time in the dunk contest.

And Michael Finley’s done a cartwheel dunk.

So yeah, even acrobatics has been done

True that !!!
I want T-Will to make a between the legs TWICE (first between the left, then between the right) dunk !!!!

And a double windmill !!!

The Stars won’t enter because they don’t want to lose and they don’t want to get an injury by trying too hard.

The obvious solution is to add an informal exhibition which doesn’t get scored. I’d bet even Vince would participate.
They would just line-up at midcourt like they were doing a layup drill. There wouldn’t even have to be a firm list of participants.

As long as there would be no pressure, nearly half the All Stars would show up for at least one dunk.
I don’t know why the NBA didn’t try this before.

PS. Of course one could argue that is already being done during the All Star game.

I would love to see a volley ball game played by the all-stars instead.

by Mike on Feb 15, 2010 1:29 PM EST reply actions

T Will would have been better.

by Shea23 on Feb 15, 2010 1:37 PM EST reply actions

The problem with the Dunk contest this year was that it lacked dunkers. Why do people want to get rid of it? How bout we fix it instead!

Someone suggest Melo in the dunk contest. Thats the problem with you anti-dunk contesters. Twill would have done wonders for it, and Demar Derozen blows, he did the same exact dunks he did all his previous contests(highschool- etc) We should let Twill, and Vanilla Sky in it. They should have to show a video to the league of a few great dunks to get in!

Why weren’t he in it? Why was Gerald Wallace in it? Hes like 30

The nba needs to Pick better dunkers, some guys can dunk in games but not in contest. I saw T-Will dunk in high school @ the derby classic, he would have won this years dunk contest easy.

always leave room for error, williams may also disappoint us, bu i doubt it, everyone expected brown to put on the show and show some amazing dunks but he embarrassed himself
