Lopez Scores Six on Five Shots in Rookie Challenge

All-star and exhibition games are usually dominated by guards and that was the case Friday night in Dallas as the Rookies beat the Sophs, 140-128, with two of the three highest scorers guards. As the little guys fired them up, Brook Lopez was limited to five shots, six points and seven rebounds in 22 minutes. Russell Westbrook's 40 led all scorers, while DeJuan Blair had 22 points and 23 rebounds for the Rookies.

Westbrook’s a sophomore.

Blair disproved the notion that only little guys dominate the rookie all-star game. He simply manhandled anyone who attempted to guard him. Brook included.

And the Nets losing woes continue into All-Star weekend… :(

by pringshia on Feb 13, 2010 1:26 AM EST reply actions

He should have denied joining the rookie-sophomore games, because he was just going to be a joke anyway.

That stage is just for someone to showcase themselve.

Blair would look great playing next to Lopez. A rough, rugged rebounder that can finish around the basket, someone who if his knees hold out, would have been worth the risk of buying a pick to get, but alas…we settle for Lopez being paired with a 7 foot soft-yi who has hands like a woman who drank 6 cups of coffee in under a half hour. Any day now, he’ll become Dirk…or Bargnani…or Jon Koncak. Just you wait!!

lmfao @ hands like a women

The Sophmores haven’t lost in the past 6 seasons, put a Net on the team from this season and the streak is broken. I really hope Brook isn’t the curse.

lol the translation of Yi doesn’t really mean muscle devil it means hands of sporadic woman.

Thorn should be fired for not drafting DeJaun Blair

by JohnY on Feb 13, 2010 8:35 AM EST reply actions

why we didnt draft blair…because of YI…get rid of him!

by Andy on Feb 13, 2010 9:21 AM EST reply actions

Thanks to Yi we traded away R.Anderson, passed on Blair and never gave playing time to SWat. And thanks to Kiki, we have Yi. Get rid of both ASAP… I honestly would rather have Jason Collins playing PF at this point. Kiki can not coach, has no backbone and bases playing time on personal relationships with the player instead of thier talent: and Yi runs around looking like a new born dear.

by Dan the Fan on Feb 13, 2010 9:29 AM EST reply actions

It’s not Yi’s fault that the front office are a bunch of ’tards.

by Mr. Dollar Bills on Feb 13, 2010 10:18 AM EST reply actions

I thought Yi would turn out like a Rashard Lewis, But we need to get rid of him because he is just to soft.Who would Lebron have Shaq and Ilguskas or Brook and Yi Starting Center/Power.
Brook Lopez should get of the leach to easy they should make that guy work out has anyone seen him next to Dwight or Shaq.
Not even how bout Blair yesterday and you could tell Brook was tryin his hardest to defend him.

by jj on Feb 13, 2010 10:18 AM EST reply actions

Brook is not a good defender…but is offensively gifted.

by Andy on Feb 13, 2010 10:20 AM EST reply actions

It’s obvious after watching this game …There are so many excellent young players in this league and cosidering that we had really good chances of getting some of them over the past few years and we didn’t tells me that Rod Thorn has no idea of how to see talent in a young player or in that case ,any player (Except Humphries,And that might have been KiKi’s Choice)….Alright . Well we got Brook but he is still so far behind all these other guys in developing because of not being coached and taught properly…Thorn does not know how to choose or when to get rid of a Bad Coach or how to hire the proper staff to play and/or develop the young guys….If we traded up in the draft or traded say Harris for another pick we could have had like a Brandon Jennings…..Whatever….I feel bad for Lopez…He really had no idea what he was doing out there and was getting eaten alive by Blair who has been developed properly since being in the NBA……Thorn needs to go…..

I was not laughing at all to Dwight howard’s “baby Jesus” refrence to Marc gasol.

And blaire should have been the ONLY MVP of the game. The guy goes for 20 20. Even in that exhibition type game, a center scoring 20 is unheard of. Great showing by Blair

by JJ22 on Feb 13, 2010 11:19 AM EST reply actions

yeah blair got robbed.

by Andy on Feb 13, 2010 11:22 AM EST reply actions

And to believe that blair got picked over the 30 fist picks

wow, i think he is this year’s draft steal!!!!

How about us???

we picked up 1 of the 2 worst picks in this draft, the other is earl clark of PHX…..

Just fire Thron plz, do it :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

no one can suck more than the Nets, just No one.

Must every thread devolve into Yi bashing?

The reason why the Nets passed on Blair is because he doesn’t have any ACL in either knee. They considered him, but giving someone without ACL’s a guaranteed $11 million contract was too risky, particularly for a team that was trying to cut costs. You can disagree with the pick (TWill was not my favorite pick) but it makes sense. Blair was originally projected at #7 so a lot of teams passed on him for the same reason, and only one of them, Houston, has a Chinese player on their roster.

Ryan Anderson is playing poorly of late, by the way. Yi is playing better than he is, as is Lee. He is in danger of falling out of the rotation.

by Net Income on Feb 13, 2010 1:16 PM EST reply actions

Yi is not the reason the Nets donlt have Blair. At the time of the draft it was pretty clear that Blair was not getting drafted with a first round pick by anybody, including the Nets with their high pick, and the guaranteed money for good reason.

It’s just wishful thinking. What sucked as a Nets fan was the fact that the Nets could not find a way to trade one of their other “assets” for a 2nd round pick to get Blair before the smart Spurs took him – like as if they need him.

Also I think the info was that time was that the Nets didn’t even want a 2nd pick because “their roster was already full” including TWIll. There was just too much turmoil with the $$$ and the sale to even consider buying out one of their overpaid useless players (who they could not and still can’t give away). We now know what the roster is “full of”.

by Man Oh Man! on Feb 13, 2010 2:02 PM EST reply actions

The reason we passed on Blair or Hansbrough or any other PF was cuz we wanted to lose and the one we got has 1.3 billion fans. We took the best player available (lmao) as long as it didn’t interfere with our historic bust. Sure Anderson sucked and will continue to suck on the Magic for the same reason. He is weak. Blair was risky??? As opposed to the sure thing we got in our historic bust.

by Mr. Big on Feb 13, 2010 2:12 PM EST reply actions

@ Mr. Big,

You’re brilliant. You forgot to mention 29 other NBA teams also passed on Blair for the same reason.

by Jet on Feb 13, 2010 2:47 PM EST reply actions

@ Jet

After Proky becomes the owner, you’re going to see magic. Count to 10 and watch the historic bust disappear.

by Mr. Big on Feb 13, 2010 3:06 PM EST reply actions

NI , why are you so high on Yi? can you not see he is soft . I’m not bashing him, he does look like a new born dear out there. and i havn’t seen him catch one pass thrown to him cleanly.

by Dan the Fan on Feb 13, 2010 3:13 PM EST reply actions

I wasn’t bashing Yi….I was bashing Thorn….But now that you brought it up……I don’t feel that it was Yi’s fault that we did not acquire another pick and/or draft the right players…..

by NetFan48 on Feb 13, 2010 3:30 PM EST reply actions

Does every post have turn into Yi hate. Anyway good for the rookies, its a stupid game anyway. The sophmores deserved to lose when they wouldn’t feed the post with size advantage and quality big men they had. Sorry Brook.

by Shea23 on Feb 13, 2010 9:30 PM EST reply actions

Brook is offensively gifted. LMAO!!!

6 pts with 0 assist in 21 mins. What a joke. In the meantime M Gasol had 10 pts with 5/6 shooting, 2 assist & 2 block in 14 mins….

Talk about talent?
