Nets Go Cold in the Snow

Rinse, wash and repeat. Wednesday's game at the Izod Center was close for the first 2 1/2 quarters and the Nets led by one midway through the third, but an 18-1 Milwaukee run spanning the third and fourth decided the game. So the Nets head into the All-Star break with just four wins and an eight-game losing streak. The good news is that only 1,016 people were forced to watch this one in person, the smallest crowd to see the Nets since they joined the NBA. The Nets shot just 39 percent from the field and turned the ball over 17 times. Devin Harris finished with 27 points and nine assists, but Brook Lopez was outplayed by Andrew Bogut and Yi Jianlian shot just 4-14. He did grab 12 rebounds.

I love the passionate fans that came out tonight!
Nets lost all there fans
Nets lost their franchise
Nets lose their team

Nets need to say good bye to Kiki now that liar
THis is the worst team in sports history
Yi played no D and got drilled everytime the Bucks were down
Bogot killed us

We need to make some changes, if the nets do nothing before the deadline I will not be a fan anymore.

The Robot has to go. Same for Kiki.

by Dan the Fan on Feb 10, 2010 9:44 PM EST reply actions

This is just outrageous. These players should truly be ashamed of themselves. Very easy to see why good organizations gave up on Kris Humphries – he comes to play every now and then when he feels like it.

Josh Boone should absolutely be getting minutes on this horrible excuse for an NBA team – he is clearly more productive than Hassell and Tony Battie for crying out loud.

This needs to be Kiki’s last game and i’m not talking about giving the job to Loyer.

Pay a few bucks to Fratello and give him a chance to get this sorry, despicable team that Ratner ordered the six wins it needs to avoid the most sorry record in NBA history.

by Isaac on Feb 10, 2010 9:44 PM EST reply actions

Why is Yi getting 14 shots and Brook only 6?!?!!?
Yi shoots every time he touches the ball.
Rediculous!

by Atronic on Feb 10, 2010 9:45 PM EST reply actions

We just have not nearly enough talent to compete on an NBA level. It’s so obvious to everyone. I watch the games knowing full well at some point, the opponent will pull away. It’s only a matter of when. There have been only four exceptions to the rule.

by Big Tom on Feb 10, 2010 9:45 PM EST reply actions

i would actually trade lopez for someone really good. lopez defense SUCKS! bogut outplayed him lol

by matt on Feb 10, 2010 9:48 PM EST reply actions

@Isaac

Why should the players feel ashamed of themselves? They don’t have the talent to compete at this level. It’s not that they’re not trying. Should basic skills students feel ashamed of themselves if they can’t compete against the advanced placement students?

by Big Tom on Feb 10, 2010 9:48 PM EST reply actions

3 minutes for CDR?

And Yi… First he was the next Yao, then the next Dirk, then recently the next Barngiani… I’m too tired to figure out where that progression was going, but Yi is not what he’s all cracked up to be… I said it during the off season: he’ll have 2 or 3 good games, get injured, then we get to deal with him “getting back into form” for 40 games. Just give up already.

Oh and toss Kiki on his gonets.

by JB on Feb 10, 2010 9:53 PM EST reply actions

yi gets 14 shots and hits 4.

lopez doesnt get nearly enough touches around the rim where he scores at ease.

cdr doesnt play until 3 min in and he knows it was a joke so he laughed.

devin harris makes terrible decisions with the ball now. ridenour played a much more efficient game.

hayes and lee combined for 20 pts and 8 rbs in 40 min. that is what 1 player should be doing. cdr would and could put up those numbers when plays are run for him.

this is a damn joke now man.

ilyasova outplayed yi in every category and did it in 22 min!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yi has to come off the bench or be traded next year!

Was Kiki out in the parking lot scraping ice off windshields after the end of the game? Or was he expecting Del Harris to do it?

Either way, hopefully this was the last game for this cancerous, manipulative cretin.

u know i’m starting to agree with all the yi bashers here.
Yi just isn’t a starting PF in this league and he seems like a head case.
the kid’s a diva and he seriously needs a wake up call.
At this point, i honestly think even if Yi improves his moves and shot, he is always gonna be the same player because of his head.

the kid thinks too much. its time to shop him.

Isaac: I agree re Josh Boone, why isn’t he getting any playing time anyway? This game was beyond ugly. I didn’t see this coming, they played well in Cleveland against a superior team. This season can’t be over soon enough!

by Joanne on Feb 10, 2010 10:01 PM EST reply actions

I will be somewhat surprised if Kiki is still with the team after the all star break. He really looks distressed tonight. If Prohkorov confirms he has no future with this franchise, I have to believe he will resign, like Dell did. He is not even making an NBA head coaches salary.

This is utterly embarassing. Yi is complete garbage I was high on him earlier in the year but he hasn’t shown ANY progress in the last month. We can’t score any points and CDR sits on the bench? Lopez getting half the amount of shots as Yi? What is going on!!!!! 2010-2011 really can’t come fast enough..

by Brett on Feb 10, 2010 10:03 PM EST reply actions

at Big Tom:

“Why should the players feel ashamed of themselves?”

Because they are utterly disgraceful. And i’m not referring to their general lack of talent. it’s the effort – or lackthereof. When a mediocre team comes to your home in the midst of a major snow storm – you punish them. The team started out well and then QUIT. Guys like Humphries and Yi displayed absolutely no passion or even a minor interest in competing.

That is why they should be ashamed of themselves. I’m tired of hearing stuff like this, like we the fans shouldn’t be irate with these pathetic efforts.

Yes, Ratner should be held entirely accountable for this debacle but these guys still have a responsibility to compete!!! Most of them have been stealing checks all season, much like Kiki is right now.

by Gerard Himself on Feb 10, 2010 10:12 PM EST reply actions

Did anyone see Dooling’s post game interview? When asked why the team did not seem to compete as well tonight, he says they missed the energy the crowd usually brings. ???? I thought he he the one who has been critical of the fans, almost seemed sarcastic coming from him but he didn’t use a sarcastic tone.

by Ispartan on Feb 10, 2010 10:14 PM EST reply actions

Humphries is a rotation player on a garbage team only, on a good team he is an 9th or 10th man at best. And don’t think for a second he isn’t going to grab his player option for next year, he’d never see that money on the open market.

by matt on Feb 10, 2010 10:18 PM EST reply actions

Did CDR ever consider the fact that Hayes and Hassell are better. Hayes can shoot the ball and Hassell can play D, CDR does neither.

by Tom F on Feb 10, 2010 10:21 PM EST reply actions

I went to the game tonight. Could not have been more then 500-750 people there. They closed the entire upper deck and everyone was allowed to move down real close right from the start. They gave out free coffee & hot chocolate to all for free. They only had the main concession stands open. There was this chubby, crazy Chinese guy with this group behind us and he was dancing the whole night. Everytime someone scored a basket he went crazy and was dancing. It was more entertaining then the game!

What a pathetic game, though. They just rolled over and played dead. Nobody tried aside from Devin Harris. Kiki needs to be fired. He did not even attempt to call a timeout during that 18-1 run. Brook Lopez could have at least tried to look interested in the game. He was an absolute disgrace tonight and Bogut made him look silly. Nobody plays defense or cares. Yi sucks. He cannot get a rebound and he plays so soft. He gets out-muscled by every player on the boards.

There was a CDR chant going for a while in the second half. They disrespected CDR by putting him in with 3 minutes to go for garbage time. That was messed up on the Nets part. They have no class. The coach is a jerk and he really needs to be fired.

It was a great game to heckle and yell out because everyone would be able to hear what you would say.

I wish every game had 500 people at it! But the Nets could have at least tried to give those who came out make it feel worth their while.

But it was a disgrace.

Walking out was eerie. Talking in the concourse on the wa out you could hear an echo when speaking.

I have to agree why no timeout on that 18-1 lead. It seems Lopez just doesn’t seem to be playing hard against Bogut.

Ok, so in Kiki’s eyes or Piwi Kiwi whatever don’t wanna offend some of the fans here. But, he said that the players looked a little tired out there and ran out of gas. Yesterday’s excuse back spasms tonight there was no excuse he didn’t address the issue. He just gave all the minutes to a guy who is going to be traded in less then a week away. Trenton Hassel by the way. So umm if you give a person 40:55 minutes when he has a minor injury in his leg then another 37 plus minutes to Lee. Then Hassel a half retired player who is out there for what when you suppose to be playing young guys. Do anybody want to address this issue any Kiki supporters out there? want to explain to me why CD-R is being benched on a back to back game? then being fed garbage minutes at the end? I need to know because I don’t understand.

by Mikee21 on Feb 10, 2010 10:55 PM EST reply actions

This team blows. Brook got a lot of touches and didn’t make any moves on Bogut. Devin played great except goign 1 on 4 and getting blocked. Besides that he shot well and 9 assists on 77 points is impressive. Court Lee continues to play well. Yi is just a bum. CDR should get some more burn. I thought we were going to win this game seriously. Great first half. I don’t know what to say. I am too loyal to stop watching. The team sucks but what are you going to do? Crazy that the devils got 3000 fans tonight and we got 300.

Today I leave the Nets because of the total ineptness of this coach and this entire franchise. They have only 3 players who I would keep (lopez, dooling and hayes). The young guys (Lee Yi CDR TWill) STINK.Some of the vets will be burried on someone elses bench and Harris will dissapoint some other franchise next year.I hope the new owner cleans house and brings in players with heart, skill and the ability to do more than run fast and jump high.

Actually diehardnffl, i’ve been watching Cavs games ever since Brown got there as i’m sure Brett has too. Mike Brown is a mediocre NBA coach AT BEST. While I may not like LeBron as a person, his talent is undeniable. He (much like a Magic Johnson or a Jason Kidd) is the coach out there due to his playmaking abilities. tack on the fact that he is a 30 PPG scorer and even Kiki could get that team 50 wins as long as LeBron is healthy. Well maybe not Kiki, but you get the point – Mike Brown is not desirable – I will name you 10 coaches that are CLEARLY better than him just for starters:

Sloan, Popovich, Phil, Carlisle, Karl, McMillan, Stan Van Gundy, Adelman, D’Antoni and Larry Brown. The way OK City is playing, you gotta give Scott Brooks a lot of credit too. After these guys, we can begin to talk about Mike Brown. But the guy that could turn around the Nets??? That is far fetched.

by Isaac on Feb 10, 2010 11:53 PM EST reply actions

brook only had 6 shots tonite because he is the only good player the nets have and the bucks repeatedly overloaded the side of the court where brook is at…
they basically dared the other players to shoot but sadly yi could not take advantage though the nets’ guards did…yi did get 12 rebounds tho to lopez’s 6(!)
in fairness to kiki…he didn’t want this coaching job but was forced on him…still kiki should be fired he can’t do anything right…in the front office or player development…and obviously the players hate him…except yi.

“@ Isaac – I would take Carlisle, Van Gundy, and Brooks from that list. The others, except MAYBE for Sloan and Jackson – what have they done this season to make them better than Mike Brown in your eyes?”

Rick Adelman has done an out of this world job with a Rockets team that no longer has Artest, and potentially has lost Yao Ming and T-Mac for good! Year in, year out, Adelman gets it done. Nate McMillan is a no-nonsense coach, who has great results with Seattle and Portland – and certainly never had a player of LeBron’s caliber on his rosters. Mike D’Antoni is a very good offensive coach, he obviously is working with every little right now but I will take his track record over Brown’s. Larry brown’s best days are certainly behind him but he got Detroit over the hump and was 12 minutes away from back to back NBA titles after previously winning an NCAA title in hsi esteemed career.

Your guy Brown has a reputation as being a good defensive coach and that seems to be true but he does not come off as some kind of genius to say the least. LeBron IS THE TEAM in Cleveland, the team is on his back much like the Nets were during the heyday with J-Kidd. Byron Scott didn’t get them to back to back NBA Finals – he did. Lawrence Frank certainly wasn’t behind those subsequent playoff appearances, Kidd was.

If Mike Brown were coaching the Nets this season, they would have fared very similarly to the way they did under Frank, in others not very good. I truly believe if Mike Fratello had taken over in December, we might not be setting the record for the league’s all-time worst record this season to say nothing of what Jeff Van Gundy could have done. But just like everything else, the whole situation is a disaster due to ownership and its completely misguided appraoch to running a professional sports franchise.

He was solid with the Knicks but sabotaged himself as Celtics coach by taking on GM responsibilities after nearly a decade in the college game (where he has had great success). He wants to end his coaching career as a winner in the NBA and this would be a great fit – ESPECIALLY since the team is obsessed with selling itself to NYC area fans. And guess what – if they hire Pitino, I am on board too, you won’t hear another complaint out of me.

Happily, I forgot that there was a game last night. I didn’t set my DVR, and was blissfully unaware of yet another miserable loss until just now, close to 1:30am, when I turned on my Internet Radio to listen to WFAN (I live in Delray Beach, FL for those who have not read me before…)
So I was saved until I turned on my laptop to see the box score. Brook too five shots, HASSELL AND BATIE were on the court. THE HUMPH has come back to earth. I can’t say for sure, so I am asking, did Devin play well, or did he hog the ball? He did have nine assists, but 27 points may be too many for this team, from it’s PG. AND Dooling, who has played well, and CDR both reduced to token minutes. Are we showcasing Hassell and Batie before the trade deadline? AND What about showcasing Boone or Simmons? I’d love to see all four of these guys playing somewhere else in ten days, with us getting back some “fallen Angels” like KIKI likes to call them. TYSON THOMAS maybe? or is his name Tyrus, I forget. When I did mark up the schedule two months ago, I had this game as a W at home. As bad as we were two months ago, when I looked forward, I hope we’d have our players back, which we do, and that by now we’d have ten wins, which we don’t.
Please KIKI and Thorn, you can’t leave this roster the same till July. I like THE HUMPH and QUINN, I think they both can play, let’s dump a couple more of our losers and pick up some help. I don’t want to win the record for the worst team, please do something both on and off the court. Off the court, because our young players need better coaches. It’s KIKI and third string coaches now that Del left. We need a quality big man coach and a pg coach and a real #2 to KIKI.
When can we pay them in Rubbels?OH WHERE OH WHERE IS PROKY??

This team plays with no passion, they don’t care if they win or lose the game.

It sucks when you know they have no shot of beating any team they play against. Sometimes I feel like I’m just watching a bunch of replacement players.

Can we get some real NBA players in here? What a joke…

This team is garbage. Wait they aren’t good enough to be garbage. This team is worse than garbage.

Ratner Sucks…

by Pablo on Feb 11, 2010 2:14 AM EST reply actions

The game is really a bummer. It was good until the 2nd half. Same old story. There is just no adjustment when the other team changes. I know most nets fans think highly of Brook but I think he still has a long way to go before we crown him allstar. He again was pushed around by Bogut. When Brook runs into an offensive center, he has problem defending. And he has problems getting shots off when the other center is skillful. So I am not surprised that he has very few shots and rebounds in this game. I like Brook as a player since the rest of the team is doing badly. But he may have to get rid of his ‘self-important’ attitude and stop whinning when things are not going his way. To overpraise a player and not see his shortcomings will only hinder his progress.

by Tomas on Feb 11, 2010 4:41 AM EST reply actions

Rarely in sports or life does somebody get their just desserts. But, Nets management is getting theirs. The “international marketing” scheme, which means playing cheap mediocrities from other countries (Najera and Yi) is paying its natural dividends. Unfortunately, it’s not over. Yi still starts, gets major minutes, benefits from a roster stripped of potential replacements, and destroys any notion that Nets players can win playing time through hard play in practice and games. Instead, they win time by lack of Tweeting or by not being “immature.”

We are looking at a full season next year of “twin towers” and Harris. There will be no acquisition this year of consequence. In the offseason, we will get a good draft choice and a mid-level FA. So what.

But, we Nets fans will still watch and hope for the best. Why? Somebody answer.

by robby on Feb 11, 2010 6:10 AM EST reply actions

We need an enforcer out there in the court. We need a PF hat could just bang inside and help out brook not just on rebounding but also on scoring and defending other big men on opposing teams. I won’t mind Boozer at all he can score, rebound and also defend anybody out there if he just put his mind to it like what he did with Kaman. They should bring in also a guard or sf that could defend or slow down the likes of CAnthony, Bryant and Lebron.

by inimeg on Feb 11, 2010 6:23 AM EST reply actions

@robby

It’s real simple not hard to answer. There’s this guy on the Nets who single handedly messed up team chemistry and gave us the record that we currently own. And that man’s name is Kiki Vandeweghe. He had a vision that Yi can become the next Dirk so what he did was get L.Frank fired because Frank didn’t see this vision that Kiki saw so he didn’t give Yi any real minutes because Yi played how he play’s now. Soft scared to drive the lane and fumbles almost every pass that comes his way.

Now that he’s the coach he still believes in this vision of Yi being the next Dirk so he gives Yi all the minutes in the world to bring out this unknown potential we see glimpses of maybe once or twice a month. Meaning he’ll score his 21, 22 points then the next game back to the same old Yi. While doing this like you said takes up valuable minutes from the other young guys such as CD-R.

In conclusion I would like to add that Kiki needs to go and trust you’ll see vast improvement in this team immediately. He is the virus of this Nets franchise and nothing really works well when it has a virus. But when you remove the virus everything is back in working order. God Bless The New Jersey Nets!

Brook just didn’t have it last night.

He needs to improve his physical conditioning and get stronger. He is only 21 though so there is no rush, but definitely by year 3 or 4 he should have improved his lower body strength. I don’t want him to bulk up to the point where he is doing damage to his knees or ankles, just get stronger to the level where you can’t get pushed off the block or tossed around by the legitimate bigs. I’m tired of seeing this kid post up and start his offensive move from the 3 point line, the fact that he still is able to score and does wicked spin moves or takes his man facing up shows you just how GOOD he is and how great he will be when it call comes together.

Plus, as either Ian or Jim Sparky pointed out last night, Lopez is one of the only Nets that leaves the court disgusted every night after a loss.

by Mr. Dollar Bills on Feb 11, 2010 8:10 AM EST reply actions

Anyone notice that official attendance was 12,700? Yet Al counted 1000 something fans. Wouldn’t they be counting many of those fans 2x, since they will be going to another game?

Regarding game, Yi is responsible for lots of missed opportunities that don’t show up in the stats with all the times he bobbles the ball or isn’t strong or quick enough to do anything on defense.

I don’t want to knock Yi too much, because I hope that some team would be willing to take him before Thursday. He might be fine as a role player on a contender who wouldn’t have to rely on Yi for defense. A straight trade for Brandon Bass would be better than nothing (SVG likes his PF’s to be able to shoot from outside.) The real problem with Yi would come next year, when Yi is asked to sit on the bench.

Proky supposedly is able to watch many of the games (not sure if someone sends him a DVD?) so as a former “big man” himself, he should already have his own opinion of Yi.

by jerry25 on Feb 11, 2010 8:17 AM EST reply actions

Last year, Yi was our starting PF and we won 30 games more. But yeah, keep believing he’s the sole reason why we’re 4-47. SIGH.

PS.: Please fire this Kiki clown already. There’s no reason for giving CD-R just garbage time minutes.

by Andres on Feb 11, 2010 8:21 AM EST reply actions

What a undertalented and under energy team. Yi keeps shrinking: yao, to dirk, to bargnani, now it’s laetner or Keith Van Horn. He is a statue and does not move well without the ball. He has bad hands and gitters around the rim. He does not know how to present himself down low. He is not even a good bench player, given that he does not bring energy. A 4 million dollar waste of cap space next year. They made a big mistake 2 years not upgrading the PF position and waiting on Yi. But they can correct that next year. If Yi is still the PF, we are in trouble.

I don’t know about you, but Bogut’s a pretty solid player. Not as if this is some landmark game for him.

He’s put up 17 and 18 against Detroit, 22 and 11 against Miami, 32 and 9 on Dallas, 27 and 12 on Toronto, 27 and 13 on Chicago, 23 and 15 on OKC, 31 and 18 on Indiana, 25 and 14 on Boston, etc.

Let’s not make some Brook Lopez sucks generalizations from this.

The effort was not there in the second half. How can we be tied at halftime and lose by over 20 again? Kiwi has got to end his short lived reign as coach! He has failed miserably with this short experiment. We need a guy out there who KNOWS how to coach! The talent level we have is at the bottom, so we need to win with good hustle and fundamentals. We should get a short term replacement like a Hubie Brown. That guy knows his stuff. I know he is older and does television broadcasts, but, just maybe, we can atleast get him for the rest of the season to teach these guys how to win some games.

by JustinNJ on Feb 11, 2010 10:00 AM EST reply actions

It was a nice gesture by the Nets to allow the fans to redeem tickets to other games since the snow limited those who could make it to the game! Also nice offering the lower level bowl to everyone and the free hot chocolates as mentioned above. Great job to those fans who actually did show up with the awful driving conditions. Now the bad news, it is time for everyone to go to the games with bags over their heads with tears running down. Hey the Saints fans did it and now look at them! I will be getting tickets in the next couple of weeks. At this point last year, I had gone to 12 more games than this year. It is time to know longer sit back and be quiet. I care too much about this team to watch this team going back to being a lame duck franchise like we were in the eighties and nineties.

by JustinNJ on Feb 11, 2010 10:11 AM EST reply actions

I love how professional athletes use poor attendance as an excuse for listless, uninspired play. It’s ridiculous. You guys are 4-48!!! Whether there’s 20,000 fans or 2 fans what difference does it make. It’s really pathetic and depressing to watch being a diehard Nets fan. I wish I could keep myself from tuning in, but I can’t. This team has broken my heart so many times, it doesn’t make any sense why I would stay so loyal, but I do. So, for all of you who say there are no loyal, passionate Nets fans anymore. I disagree. We are out there. We just haven’t had much to cheer for the last few years. I can’t wait until all of you jump on the bandwagon the moment we start winning ballgames again.

On a completely different note, many teams like CLE, UTAH, GS, MIN.. are rockin’ their throwback jerseys. If anything, just to spice up this miserable season, why don’t we bring back the Dr.J era throwback that we used to wear back when we were making Finals appearances, or even the early 90s jersey during the DC/Kenny the Kid/Petro days. I’d like to place the blame on those ugly red jerseys for our historically awful season.

The NBA offseason can’t come soon enough.

Huge fan of the early 90s jerseys – the only reason we switched to the awful ones we’ve worn since was because it was part of John Calipari’s “culture change”. The only decent one was the blue “New Jersey” road jerseys but like you mentioned those are gone due to Yormark’s brilliant anti-New Jersey marketing campaign.

Those red jerseys are easily the worst the team has ever worn and currently the worst in the NBA (which goes along with our record just fine).

Well take note that Andrew Bogut is in his 4th year in the league.

Brook’s putting up 19 ppg 9 rpg 2.3 apg 1.9 bpg in his second year in the league.

In his second year Bogut was at 12 ppg 8.8 rpg 3 apg 0.5 bpg.

I dunno, how many guys do you still see that can come out of the gate and be nearly a 20 10 guy in their 2nd year? I think multiply all star selection is not a stretch for Brook. Hall of Famer? Maybe not. But he’ll be good nonetheless.

by muwu on Feb 11, 2010 11:15 AM EST reply actions

Definitely, I’d like to see Kiki not run him into the ground with his minutes when the Nets are getting killed or whatever it may be. A lot of his mistakes have come this year when he was fatigued and it was quite obvious.

I’d like to see Brook use the glass more and not be so robotic with posting up. If he can trust that in-between game with getting some offense out of him facing up then I think it would help.

Last Year Yi was booed at home and benched in the 4th quarter so Simmons and Hayes could try to mount a comeback. We would have won many more games with Vince and a real PF. There is plenty of blame to go around, but the decision to make Yi the only PF on the team was the keystone.

@ Isaac – What about Brandon Roy?

by diehardNFFLbarnone on Feb 11, 2010 2:11 PM EST reply actions

I was at the game and it was great (except for, you know, all the crappy ball we played). Here are my observations:

1. Bogut completely outplayed Brook on both ends. It happens. Bogut is a very underrated player.

2. Devin came to play and generally looked good, but he still couldn’t raise the level of his teammates and lead them to a win. He dominated Brandon Jennings.

3. When the Bucks ramped up the defensive pressure in the third quarter, we wilted. We then substituted Quinn for Devin and completely fell apart. Was Dooling hurt? That Quinn dog don’t hunt.

4. Humphreys has some skills, but passing ain’t one of them. He is easily defended, and the Bucks frontcourt has some good defensive players.

5. There was a sizable contingent of Chinese fans at the game who came on several tour buses. Yi was strongly supported by them throughout the game—I didn’t hear many boos that might have gotten him down. He still played poorly. He has skills and excellent size, but even if he ever gets his head straight and loses the yips, toughens up, and somehow acquires some basketball instincts, he just has bad hands. The potential progression as noted above is Yao, then Dirk, then Bargnani, and now I think if everything works out, he may one day become Keith Van Horn. As sad as that is, I would definitely continue to start him because that’s more than the guys behind him, and when we give up on this dude (and the day is coming), we will have given him more than his fair shot at being successful.

6. CDR needs to play. TWill needs to continue to also, even though he stunk it up in the second half. Aren’t we supposed to be developing talent? Do we really think benching him will help anything? Why bother playing Hassell or starting Hayes? Showcasing them for a trade would be the only reason I can think of.

7. Kiki was dressed all in black. Mourning? Burial suit? That being said, all the Kiki hatred here is misplaced. I’m OK with rebuilding and we’re halfway there. Yes, the easy part is over! But that isn’t Kiki’s fault—Ratner needed to cut costs. And Kiki didn’t want to be coach—Thorn forced it on him despite being obviously unqualified. Just because he is the most visible member of Team Failure doesn’t mean he is the one most responsible.

Clean house, Proky.

by jj on Feb 11, 2010 3:53 PM EST reply actions

T McGrady & Brian Cook (meaningless to Rockets and last year of contract) for T. Battie, Simmons and Hassell works. At least the Rockets would be getting players for McGrady (it appears the Rockets are done with him).

The Nets can give McGrady what he wants playing time and he can maybe help the nets get to at least the 10 win mark. Then, “after proving himself” he can leave. I can’t imagine any team before the deadline make a move for McGrady and the Nets might be his only option or to be benched the rest of the year….

by Mike L on Feb 11, 2010 5:40 PM EST reply actions

@Mike L

Agree about McGrady, but there is a rumor about Houston talking with Washington, as they prepare to dismantle that team – I’m not sure why the Wizards would want McGrady.

Does anyone know how bad Dooling’s thigh injury is? He played 5 minutes yesterday, then Ian Eagle said something about Keyon being injured (besides the slow recovery from surgery). Doesn’t anyone care about poor Keyon?
