Thorpe: In Rookie-Sophomore Challenge, Lopez is Top Player

The Rookie-Sophomore game is two days and a foot of snow away. ESPN's David Thorpe, who normally ranks only rookies, ranks both rookies and sophomores this week. Thorpe says Lopez is better than anyone in either class, including All-Star Derrick Rose. "And there is still a lot of room for growth in his game," Thorpe writes. "Over the next few seasons, I see him becoming a special player."

Either way there you have it ladies and gentleman- Lopez, the only reason this season wasnt a total disaster and one of the many reasons I think this team is going places.

He has Ryan Anderson as #20
Derrick Rose as #2
Marc Gasol as #3
As expected, TWill… no mention

i agree 100%. to me rose has shown all he can do already. as for brook he still has time to get into better physical condition and improve his defense and footwork.

not that TWill has done anything to deserve a mention.

He is the only reason we shouldn’t kill ourselves right now.

Links to “Insider” articles are frustrating, so much so that I signed up years ago just to have the access. I throw the magazine away each month without a glance. Imagine that, a monthly magazine. How quaint!

Lopez. what a steal in the draft. i thank josh boone for getting hurt last season and giving brook an oppurtunity. He will be an OUTSTANDING player. maybe evn better then duncan. he is fundamentally sound and has good footork just needs exp. and development. hell be the best center in the east for many, many years to come

JD Down to the shore:
I hope you got the magazine subscription for cheap (as I did during the magazineusa.com Fourth of July Sale… $4 for an entire year of ESPN magazine plus the Insider)
If not… I hope you are a man/woman (not an insult… just being politically correct) who has extra money to spend like this… because ESPNInsider is just a bunch of phoney bologna insights, Hollinger’s statistics, and a bunch of rumors that are nothing more than someone scouring the internet for news articles and posting it in one place.

I just saw someone here mention that Brook Goofpez could be better than Tim Duncan?? Tim Duncan is one of the all time great centers in the NBA with 2 World Championship Titles… Brook Goofpez has the slowest post move in the history of the NBA with no agility, no mobility, no defense, no muscles, he actually goes backwards when he posts players up, and only reason he’s getting 20 10 is because he’s playing with the worst team in the history of the NBA… Goofpez a special player??? Yeah if he played in the D League.. Goofpez’s post moves make Greg Osterteg look like Hakeem Olajuwon..

By the ways.. Footwork, agility, fast, being athletic, tough, and not playing like a girl are all things that you cannot work on and get better. Courtney Lee could shoot 100,000 jump shots and work out 20 hours a day on his game and he Ain’t never gonna be like Michael the magnificent… Either you got it or you don’t… Look at all the Great centers that came out in the 80’s and 90’s.. Olajuwon, Ewing, Admiral, Shaq, Mourning, they were all athletic and were feared Centers… Goofpez is so frail I bet he would still go backwards when posting up even 90 year old Dick Bavetta… Goofpez is a slow, unathletic, big moron with no brawn or physicality to even make a slight impact on a team… Get of the charlies boyzzzzzzz…

Perhaps tvtechwonV may be going a little overboard in his citicism of Lopez.
But a many a Net fan is going way too gaga over Lopez too.
Lopez has a really good outside shot for a Center and has pretty goods hands around the basket. He would have helped when the Nets had Kidd, Kittles, RJ and KMart.
He needs to get way tougher physically and especially mentally, and improve his defense and rebounding a lot. He has pretty good talnet on O though, but being a high option on O on this team with bad overall talent is producinng very bad team results. He is better off as a complimentary player IMO.

Lopez needs to lock himself in the gym this summer
leg presses
squats
calf raises
bench presses
shoulder presses
curls
pulldowns
dips
crunches
push ups
pull ups
PED’s
rinse wash and repeat

Some of u are extremist… Either he can’t guard a 90 year old person or he is going to be better than TD.:: lolz.
Brook is a very good player already and you can ask around the league to verify. He averages nearly 20/10/2 as 21 year old center… I don’t know what expectations are around here but that’s pretty darn good. He does need to hit the gym hard, but skills and iq aren’t the issues here.

We should trade all our cards, except for Brook. He’s our ace, and we should ask for a new hand. I am looking forward to the Sophmore game, to see Brook play with some better players.
by Paul Erstein on Feb 11, 2010 1:57 AM EST reply actions
Saying Brook Lopez could be better than Tim Duncan is sacrilege. Duncan is one of best players in the history of the game. He’s the best PF ever in my book. Lopez isn’t even a franchise player.

Thorpe is right. My biggest worry is that he abandons NJ when he can for warmer and winnier locations.

@tvtechwonV
He’s the 2nd best center in the east. Would you have so much to say if he were on the all star team? Because his numbers are worthy.
by universal on Feb 11, 2010 2:24 PM EST reply actions
His numbers are worthy because he plays on the worst team in sports history, someone has to put up numbers. On a good team he averages 14 and 8 tops.
by kobe24 on Feb 11, 2010 4:37 PM EST reply actions
being the only good player on a bad teams means the defense from the opponents will only focus and double him almost every play… that’s just logic.
