Lee: Long Season "Helps Me Build Character"

In a short interview with HoopsWorld, Courtney Lee says his first two season have "seen the highs and the lows", but this season is "definitely going to help me build character and understand what it takes to get back to that level." Lee also talks briefly about how much he disliked mock drafts and puts in a pitch for the foundation he helped set up to honor a friend who of a heart attack playing pick-up.

This reminds me of the old calvin and hobbes comic strips where Calvin would complain about having to do some god awful task(in a child’s eyes) and his dad telling him that “______ builds character.”

Get the snot beaten out of you every night builds character.

Not being able to hit the broadside of a barn builds character.

Not being able to make a lay up builds character.

That’s cool, now get back on to the bench. Absolutely the worst finisher in NBA history.

Our backcourt has underperformed this season more than any other backcourt in the league.

Harris and Lee are easily the worst backcourt in basketball

C. Lee is also a young player. In fact most of our core is very young. Throwing players over board at this point in time, is not a smart thing to do. We should have plenty of roster spots available, to keep the young ones. CDR, Lee, Yi, T-Will etc. If we trade them for something “good” O.K., but to call them “bums” sounds a bit harsh.

Yup, totally agree Mike

As long as this character building continuous to help him “showcase his skills”, I’m happy!

I wonder what management makes of the fact that the CDR post below has 60 comments and this one only 7.

@mt57;

  I believe Nets management values Lee over CDR. What we don’t see or know, is what goes on behind “closed doors”. Some players are probably a pain in the butt to be around, and to deal with. I’m not saying this is the case with CDR, but it seems it might be so. Dealing with a pain in the butt superstar is one thing… CDR is not on that level.

Next stop for CDR is out the door…

If they trade CDR it reminds me of what Buddy Ryan said to justify trading Cris Carter from the Eagles to the Vikings: “All he does is catch touchdowns”.

CDR was doing fine under LFrank. He was in the 15-20 ppg range. Then the “we’re with Yi” team was put in place, and CDR’s productivity sank like a stone. I don’t think it has as much to do with CDR as with the coach who has bet his career on a third rate player.
