Is it John Wall or bust?

Is it John Wall or bust for the Nets? Should they fail to land the No. 1 pick (and the chance to draft the Kentucky superfreshman), league sources expect New Jersey to explore trading its choice-which, barring a miraculous turnaround, can be no worse than fourth. One option could be Ricky Rubio. The Timberwolves hold the rights to the Spanish point guard, who signed a six-year deal with Regal Barcelona last summer that does not have a buyout clause until 2011. However if the Nets—who are high on Rubio's wish list—were to acquire his rights, he would try to negotiate a buyout after this season....

Mannix, for whatever reasons, has been among the media sorts who immediately leapt to several conclusions when Rubio was drafted. Stuff like the vaporous Nets desire, here — the most we know about Rubio’s “wish list” is basically that he specifically didn’t want to go to Memphis for whatever set of reasons, you know? And yet out of the thrashing silliness of the Spanish media reports, people like Mannix emerged thinking they’d gotten a clear list of demands. Mannix also reported that signing Ramon Sessions guaranteed the Wolves would deal Rubio, which is more than a little questionable.

Shrug. Pretty speculative stuff all the way ‘round. The number of times I’ve heard superficial media reports about how if a team didn’t draft #1 it wouldn’t be worth (living/drafting at their lower slot) is pretty high.

Trying to get Rubio would be a mistake. He is not proven and in my opinion, has been scared to come join the NBA. If it was really his dream to be in the NBA, it wouldn’t matter what team he went to. Just like Yi when he got drafted by Milwaukee, he wasn’t happy about it, but he didn’t abandon his plan and dream to play in America. Rubio is not that great. He didn’t impress me in the Olympics and has done nothing since to prove himself.

I would hope that if the Nets unfortunately don’t land the number 1 pick, they will do whatever it takes to get Wall. Wall is going to be a superstar in this league, and he’s a can’t miss prospect. The Nets have to do whatever it takes to get him, because he is the key to the offseason. You can attract FAs with Wall. If they could get Wall, it’s a downhill battle from there in terms of re-building and putting together a great team for next year

It all depends on who might seperate themselves by tournament time. Perhaps D.Cousins becomes a dominate force and the Nets feel he would fit their need at power forward. Or maybe W.Johnson fills the small forward spot. Also, if the Nets trade their pick to Minn for Rubio, who do they aquire for D.Harris in a trade ?

Has anybody here heard of Even Turner? He will be the true stud out of this draft.

Wow, nice reporting. I’d like to see this “wish list” of Rubio’s. Are we entirely sure Rubio even knows the Nets franchise exists?

Also, he doesn’t have a buyout clause in 2010. So he would try to negotiate a buyout and fail.

@ mss

Scared? Yes, he was…he was scared to pay 6.6 milion dollars to be free to go to the NBA!!! :-) :-) :-)

Rubio in his previous Spanish team (Joventut Badalona) was free agent in 2011, in Barcelona he’ll be free to go to the NBA in the same year.

Scared of going to the NBA? Scared of what? He plays professional basketball since he’s 14. He has the talent to be something really special in the NBA, and he’ll be. You have just to wait. His time will come. Nets would be really lucky to have him, if they cannot have Wall…Problem is, I don’t think that T-Wolves will let him go unless they prove him in the US. Only if he does something like saying that he’ll never go to Minneapolis, they’ll trade him…with at least 20 teams trying to catch him…
